Hey gang,
I noticed someone asking about KOTR CD ordering and I must say that
they are the best place I have ordered from so far. I have probably gotten
almost 20 discs from them in the last 6 months, and they are always fast and
reliable. They also reply to e-mails quickly if you have any questions. A+
from me!
Also, I noticed someone said the QR opening band in Chicago was
pretty cool. I thought you might get a kick out of the opener in the
Wisconsin show at Alpine Valley: They were called "PISTON"...but the stoopid
part is that they pronounce it "PISSED-ON". Just when you thought openers
couldn't get any worse, they pretty much scrape the bottom of the barrel.
hehe I just thought y'all might get a kick out of it since it is our
constant source of stoopid jokes lately. So check out their new album
"Number 1" in record stores! And you can get a "Shroud of Urine" T-shirt if
you are lucky. I'll be wearing mine!

Lets see here- Images And Words, Awake, Live At The Marquee, The Silent Man,
A Change Of Seasons, Scenes From A Memory, Precious Things (someday),
Darkest Of Winters (someday). I guess I don't own too much. I just don't
have the money to buy every DT bootleg and release they have.
Most I spent on a DT CD- 45 dollars on a copy of WDADU...disappointing, took
it back to a store and got 3 bucks for it. Really depressing.

You heard only rough drafts of the songs. Over here on the "glass is
half full" side of town, we believe that, in the studio, they'll be
improving what we've heard and all will be fine.
So cry another day :)
> That keyboard lead at the very end of the instrumental section in TTT

Think again. I think BOTH Kevin and Derek are each great in their own
way (DON'T start that who's better thread again, people). In short: We
all like the other members of the band, right? Well, guess who decided
that Derek was a good choice to be a keyboard player in the band?
Speaking of keyboardists who not only CAN and HAVE but WILL CONTINUE to
compose and perform several awesome things:
Jordan Rudess is in a class by himself! The man is truly a maestro. I
won't repeat what Jeremy and Adam already posted on the clinic we
attended at Berklee. Of course, the acoustics at Berklee far outshine
that of a Guitar Center back room... I'll add the following I remember
from the Danvers clinic which may put things into perspective a little
(I can dream, can't I? :)
Rod mentioned his days with Winger and that Kip recenlty asked Jordan to
come over to play the keyboard parts to some of the stuff off of Kip's
upcoming new release. Well, Jordan comes over and plays the new stuff:
that is, the bass, the guitar AND the keyboard parts. The guy had the
entire album down!! Kip was totally blown away...
Not even close!
All you keyboard players out there who mention being frustrated that the
guitar gets all the limelight in prog music, go pick up this disc. It's
quite apparent that the keyboard can shine just as bright as the primary
supplier of progness in a song :)
I head on over to Bafu's territory. Showing no intentions of stealing
any of the females in that territory for the purposes of gaining access
to copulations, I am granted access. Similar to the way certain species
align themselves in parallel, I align myself and begin scratching my
head also...

Hello All,
I couldn't agree more with Neil's and Graham's glowing reviews of Paradise Lost's new release 'One Second'.
I went to see them on their only UK date at the London Astoria on the Su= nday evening. The place was packed out and hot (London has been sweltering la= tely), and as expected there was an atmosphere of restlesness and impatience once inside.
I didn't get the name of the support band, and no offence meant, I didn'= t q uite get their sound - a mixture of mainstream metal, but a crowd seemed= to enjoy it. This point was a good excuse to nip upstairs to the merchandis= e counter where I got hold of a rather smart 'Seals the Sense' t-shirt for a tenner.
PL came on really energetic and happy. Even Aaron Aedy was grinning, who normally has the best - I think - 'who-the-f**k-you-looking-at' look abo= ut him. The new short hair look of Nick Holmes and Aaron Aedy is a bit of a= suprise, but I like it as my own hair is cropped short and gelled-up :).
The lighting was good and they used an interesting montage of projected = ima ges in the background. It was the kind of stuff art-students photograph = e.g cemeteries, old faces, statues etc. :)
They played a varied mixture from 'Shades of God, 'Icon, 'Draconian Tim es' and 'One Second'. During the new stuff most of the crowd just listen= ed, apart from the real-hardcore nutters towards the front that just moshed= . But when the favourites of 'As I Die', and 'Once Solemn', came on everbody j= ust exploded.
They played for over 90mins (I think - I lost track of time). And later = on at 12:00am at the Virgin Megastore around the corner, there was a signin= g s ession for the official release of their album. Unfortunately, I couldn'= t stick around as I had a long drive back home - damn :)
In all, I reckon PL, are onto a winner in new spin in thier musical dire= cti on, they definetly offer you something if you like your metal heavy and = hard yet intelligently put together.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to hear more views.
Ashley.

Markus Paus can actually play that fast... I have seen him perform several times. His techique is only good for playing fast. When the slow parts comes he sounds like an aircrash. The fastparts are so fast that you can`t hear the tones... Ì think it sucks big time! This guy actually quit school and practiced 12 hours a day to reach this speed. Poor guy... I really hope he will learn to play with soul someday... Mayby i should buy him "Learn to play guitar in one day". He should draw some benefits from that book...

I don't think you made yourself clear on that point. What it sounded like you're saying is that if you only like QR's early work, up to and including O:M, then you're not a fan. Ok. Our not-so-technical talk of the day.
When you have a site connected to the Internet, you make the communication between networks via a gateway, that is, a computer that "talks" between two (or more) networks.
Ok. When you send your IP packets (containing, for instance, this message that I'm sending you), these packets have to travel through some networks before arriving at the ax.com computer, right? Ok. This path is called a route. The "hops" you just saw written in your message are the lenght value of this route. It is the number of gateways thru which your IP packets passed (or had to pass), that is, the number of intermediary computers between your host and the desired computer.
It is usually agreed that paths longer than 16 hops are too long. Ask you sysadmin to check the routing the packets are taking to the computer hosting the Savatage mailing list.
Hope this helps a bit, Roger...

Hmm, I could be wrong but didn't Dirt come out after Nirvana came out? Also, where the hell do you guys shop for CDs? Jeez, I've never ever seen a Heavy Metal section, or a Grunge section. What's wrong with groove? I remember a recent interview with one of the members of DT saying that they didn't groove enough, and that's what they were going to do on this next record. Does that mean DT has...[swallows] SOLD-OUT?????
Also, who here doesn't like to laugh at the "image" of certain bands/groups/genres? :)
