No, this isn't a Magna-Carta release. it's called "People of the
Southwind - A Tribute to Kansas" and it contains 60 minutes of bands
& collaborations performing some great Kansas tunes. It's on tape and
it's only $2 for about the next 48 hours, then it'll go up to $4. It
can only be ordered direct from us.
Except for Trevor's review, we've had ALOT of positive response
about the tribute, and copies have even gone out to some band members
themselves.
I also have the Clockwork CD EP "Search" for $8. Anybody who has it
already can attest to the fact that this is pretty much essential
listening. It's a no-brainer for fans of DT, Shadow Gallery,
Helloween, etc.
And of course, we still have the "DREGs of the Internet" compilation
of progressive rock & metal bands. It's 72 minutes on CD for $12.
For more info, email me at DREG@hutman.com, or better yet, visit our
web-site for info, audio-clips and an order form at the URL listed
below.

Hello,
durnik:
>Good: Rush "Leave That Thing Alone"
>Poor: Rush "Jacob's Ladder"
You must be joking? Especially when you say this:
>Why, then, does LTTA age _far_ better than JL ever did?
JL has always been a great Rush song to me, and always will be. To say
that LTTA has aged better is ridiculous. One is 5 years old, the other i
17 years old. Can we say apples and oranges. Try comparing songs on one
album and the next, and that would help support your DT argument. For
instance:
Good: Something for Nothing
Bad: I Think I'm Going Bald
Songs from the consecutive albums in the same stage of the band's
development. But JL to LTTA is like comparing two different bands.

I've heard this argument from Metallica fans, Queensryche fans, and even Megadeth fans back when CtE was considered a sell-out. Look at the numbers here. Conveniently, these bands just happened to have a sudden affection for what happened to be popular at the time. **** Oooh. Unsub him, Skadz! He brought up M*t*ll*c*!!!!!! I can still talk about Megadeth, though. 1st of all: Why would any of these bands NEED to sell out? They've already got more money than you can count. The only other reason somebody would sell out is to get people to like them...you yourself are proof against that reasoning. Many many many people liked all three band's previous sounds. Why would they purposely alienate their fan base? They've got the money already. Besides the fact that it's stupid to say that CtE, Load and HitNF sound exactly like 'popular' music, there's just no reason for them to have sold out. It would be pointless.
***** his is why Hero of the Day sounds like the Smashing Pumpkins and Sign of the Times is right out of Everclear's latest album. Flame away. ***** How would you know what Everclear sounds like? Do you listen to them? OOH!!!! OOOOH!!!!! ADAM'S AN ALTERNACRAP LOVER! Adam and alternative sittin' in a tree...SKULLFUCKING EACHOTHER TILL THEY BLEED! Why do they put green fuzz on tennis balls, anyhow? Sheesh.
***** I'd much rather see a band have a god complex and put out better writing and performance (not that this guarantees this, before you jump all over me) than a band that says things like, "Well, our goal was never about being famous." ***** Egotistical bands that write good original music don't bother me...egotistical bands that sound like other bands do. And no, that doesn't guarantee that...Type O Negative is a good example. They think they suck, but write incredible music. :) And, it's already a given that no matter what a band says..they wanted to get famous. <grin>
**** No, you're not the only one. Al and Pat should be in the FAQ! :) **** Hahahaha. They can be made an example of in the trading section.
**** Does that mean DT has...[swallows] SOLD-OUT????? ^^^^^^^^^^^ Whoa. Really? Do I have to pay extra for that?
***** You will die Now or later it doesn't matter Dream Theater isn't a very good band... They try too hard...use all theory and no hard no-brain stuff WHAT THE FUCK? ***** A: If this is serious, that wasn't funny, it was annoying. B: If this is a joke, that wasn't funny, it was annoying.
***** oh yeah... FUCK YOU!!! and othher stuff that may be semi-related. ***** C: Shut up.
***** let's just stop talking about all this music crap... what the hell is Dream Theater doing on a freakin' DREAM THEATER LIST? ***** D: Shut the FUCK up.
E: G'bye.

Bogie
----------------- Review of the Alpine Valley (East Troy, WI - 7/11) and World Music Theater (Tinley Park, IL - 7/12) Queensryche shows
by Nick Bogovich
Let me first start off by giving you the set list. They were the same for each night, but the song in parentheses was included(!) at the World Music Theater:
Introduction The Voice Inside Get a Life Empire Jet City Woman You Spreading the Disease The Mission I Am I Damaged Reach Bridge Another Rainy Night Take Hold of the Flame The Lady Wore Black Hit the Black Silent Lucidity I Remember Now Anarchy-X Revolution Calling Breaking the Silence I Don't Believe in Love Eyes of a Stranger/Anarchy X-tra (Walk in the Shadows) Sign of the Times Some People Fly
That's right! Queensryche finally played a tune from the beloved 'Rage for Order' album! And quite well I might add. First, let me brag about how well the band performed these two evenings.
The Alpine Valley show was the first time I was able to see the 'Journey Into the Now Frontier' Tour. So, throughout the evening, I was attempting to make comparisons between this show and the last time I saw Queensryche, which was on March 26, 1995, in Rosemont, IL. After the show, I realized that it was wrong for me to make comparisons between the two shows - they conveyed different moods. The 'Road to Promised Land' tour was more of a story, whereas the 'Journey Into the Now Frontier' tour is more of a 'Hey, let's just kick it back and jam!' type of tour. And jam Queensryche did!
Because the band is usually tight from show to show and you know what to expect from them musically, I will list the highlights from the shows and the things that were unexpected from the band:
* The set was excellent - the 2 big screens were incorporated into a jar and an ear. Geoff joked about how "The ear was something left over from Mike Tyson."
* The lights were also incredible, especially during Spreading The Disease, Damaged, and Anarchy-Xtra. The lights really coordinated with the music. (Not that I wasn't expecting this from them, but it just had to be mentioned!)
* Although I've heard complaints during earlier shows in this tour about how Geoff was "losing his range", he would have proved all of those claims wrong during these two shows. At Alpine Valley, he hit all but one high note during the concert, the very, very high note in the opening to Take Hold of the Flame. On Saturday, Geoff even hit that note. Sorry you doubters out there, but Geoff's voice is just as strong as it has been in the past. He even crushed all of the high notes in Walk in the Shadows!
* During Revolution Calling, near the end, Geoff now asks, "But don't you admit, aren't you tired of all this shit?" The crowd seemed to agree with a lot of screaming!
During this tune at the World, Geoff seemed to slipped up the last pre-chorus by beginning to sing, "I used to think that America's way" when he should have sung "I used to trust the media". He caught his mistake quickly and sang, "I used to think that America tells us the truth" instead! (Or something to that effect - he pulled it off so well that hardly anyone seemed to notice.)
* During Breaking the Silence, for the line, "Can't look back, it's just a waste of time", the band stops to have the crowd sing "it's just a waste of time." Although the band was impressed at Alpine Valley, Geoff did say this at the World Music Theater, "Shit, if we had a contest for the loudest mutha-fuckas out there, you'd be winnin'!"
* As the band waited behind the stage after finishing a wonderful rendition of Eyes of a Stranger/ Anarchy X-tra, the crowd of over 5,000 cheered and ranted uncontrolably for at least 3 minutes before the band came back on stage. When I was at Alpine Valley, the band didn't wait that long. So, I knew something good was in store for us - Walk in the Shadows!
I definitely did not expect the band to play anything from Rage for Order because I had perused the set lists from shows earlier in the tour. But, when the crowd screams, hollers, and whistles as loud as they possibly can, it appears that the band will give their fans what they want. Keep this in mind if you're planning on seeing the band at a later venue!
All in all, I had a great time at both concerts. I was lucky enough to get 12th row center stage tickets from a scalper outside the venue for face value the day of the Alpine Valley show. And, I had 12th row seats already for the World Music Theater show. If you get a chance to see the band, do NOT pass up your chance to see them. And, if you get two chances to see the band live like I did, do that too!
Make sure you don't pass up your chance to take a 'Journey Into the Now Frontier'!

wow!! ..i also hate that damn slappy sound.. i got a friends whos an audiophile and stuff..you know..his receiver alone is like 4thousand bucks or something..anyway... we were trying to decipher what the hell is making that sound..either bad sound from the original show (i got a hi-fi copy) or what.. we havent decided on what the hell is making the bass sound so slappy..specially in the heavier songs..

I apologize for keeping this on the 'jam, but there was no E-mail address for me to send this privately....
> This is bullshit. If Al ripped off Pat in a trade, why is he still on the > jam?
First of all, "ripped off" isn't a proper term.....second of all, I'm on the 'Jam because my purpose on here is to find out about and discuss DT, and give input on DT and music-related stuff....
> At least Jeremy Haynes had the brains to disappear when he ripped us > off.
Jeremy Haynes was on here and traded with more than 1 person with the specific intent to not give anything back....why stay after that, and after he was found out?
> Al, you seem to know that you owe Pat tapes, yet you ignore it.
You should have read my message about stating things that you don't know anything about. Do you this for a fact? No. Then why put it in a post?
> This > thread comes up every month or so, and we all have to be reminded that you > just don't care about completing trades.
I don't bring this up at all. People decide to bring it up who have no business with this whole thing. Hence what I wrote in the previous message....if accusations are unsubstantiated, then don't write them....you have no clue whether I care or not....
> You should not be on this list at all.
Then have Skadz kick me off. I could name 15 other people who add nothing but non-related stuff on here who should be kicked, but I don't consider myself "holier-than-thou" to even suggest it.
> I'd rather deal with talks about politics and religion, than have to > share this list with someone who knows they ripped a 'jammer off, but > doesn't care enough to rememdy the situation.
I don't know about you, but I'd rather hear about Dream Theater and music.......
again, send all this to private E-mail, it has no place on here.

Everyone knows how well you follow up your end of a deal. He was referring to a case where a Jammer might want to sell you the cd. He was warning them not to since you would never pay up.
> I didn't think so.....I merely asked that if anyone knows where I > can get the DoE *CD*, to let me know so I can get it...... > > Here's a suggestion...... > > - do you know me personally?
I think everyone on the jam has a decent idea about what kind of person you really are.
> - have I done anything for you? > - does anything I do affect you?
Well, actually it does when sh*t like this goes out to the multitudes of jammers.
> > I didn't think so............ > > Until then, I suggest minding your own business and keeping > your random tirades to yourself, or someone who might give > a shit.......
Once again, sh*t like this appears on the jams, most of the jammers read it so it is their business. A lot of jammers feel that the group as a whole is sorta like an extended family.
Kai responded: >This is bullshit. If Al ripped off Pat in a trade, why is he still on the >jam? At least Jeremy Haynes had the brains to disappear when he ripped us >off. Al will probably respond with the reason that I have an attitude problem or something to that effect and that is the reason why he wont pay up. I guess I should have a joyous attitude and act like he is some cool guy... I can deal with a Jeremy Haynes who ripped off a lot of jammers since he left the jam. Al just hangs around acting like he is everyone's best loyal and honest friend.
I guess Al's above tirade gives everyone a good impression of what type of person he really is...
