always clear when he orders CDs, that much I know. If Al truly still owes
Pat tapes, he could just send Pat $20 and be done with it.

    I just bought a couple new CD's:

Grip, Inc. - "Nemesis" - So far (first few songs), it's exactly what I
expected. Sounds very similar to the first album, with a couple new twists
thrown in. Good music to get really pissed off to.

I also picked up Galactic Cowboys self-titled one for $3.99. I don't know
much about the band, but I've heard them mentioned favorably on here.
Anybody with any positive/negative opinions on this specific album, please
e-mail me (privately). I'd like to know what to expect before I toss that
one on the ol' CD player.

K, Im coming out of my little hole right now to post on a few things. Ive=
been here almost a year and can count on one hand how mant times ive=
posted. Alright Im a lurker but who cares about that. What I care about=
is that Ive run out of fingers and toes to count on for the amount of times=
this stupid Pat/Al thing has come up. It always starts the same way,=
someone says al is a bad trader, then Pat chimes in and says that he is=
NEVER gonna post about it again then Al says something then it just gets=
ugly. No scratch that it gets annoying. I must say there has been alot of=
great info on alot of great bands passed around here, but every time the=
Pat/al thing resurfaces it just gets annoying. Pat, just deal man, i mean=
shit if its 2 VHS tapes you want I'll freakin send them to you. So you got=
screwed its not the end of the world, some of your posts make it sound like=
you need a 12 step program or something of that nature. Everybody gets a=
raw deal at one point in their lives. Your lucky, atleast yours didnt cost=
you a large sum of money. I on the other hand have had something like that=
happen to me. Im not posting about it here cause i could really give to=
peices of repulsive cow dung what everyone on this list cares about it. My=
point Im trying to get at here is get over it already, I thought time=
healed all wounds. You make it seem like these two tapes are the be-all=
end-all of your world (god i hope thats not the case cause that would be=
pretty sad). Anyway enough ranting about that. Falling into Infinity,=
can't wait to see the album cover for that one. My guess is that its gonna=
be a guy floating toward a black hole somewhere in the depths of space. =
Any takers on that? Any other ideas? I really can't wait to see what the=
cover art looks like. Anyway, my 2 cents from seeing the Fixx 96 show at=
BH, IMO the hottest song thats gonna be on there is gonna be Burning My=
soul. Also any sepultura or testament fans on here who haven't picked up=
Blood Rooted or Demonic. Do yourself a favor and do so. they are both=
Rippin' discs. WOW, I just looked up at how much Ive written, guess Im=
gonna get flamed up the waz for this or elected bandwidth hog or=
somethingbut Oh well, ive sen longer posts, i ususally just skip em'.

all, but I saw QR in KC (7/8)....no problem here....they kicked ass. If
you have a chance to go them this tour....GO!! I was hoping for a
longer show....but I'll live with two hours, for now. No Rage....but
plenty of O:MC. Several from HITNF...which is a better record than most
reviews I read from the jam, IMO.

BTW...Dallas is (8/16)....If you're goin' let me know.

    >Megadeth fans back when CtE was considered a sell-out. Look at the numbers
    >here. Conveniently, these bands just happened to have a sudden affection
    >for what happened to be popular at the time.

ok, let's do some role-playing here... suppose I'm Mr. DeGarmo... it's
midnight, i'm dozing off, thinking about life in general, as most ppl do
    when they're dozing off.
"Hmmm, let's see, we're a band that's made most of our fan-base during
Operation: Mindcrime and Empire... and a lot of those fans are really loyal
and have stuck with us from the beginning. Now, of course, Promised Land
didn't seem to sell as well as Empire, be we *are* one of the few, if not
the only, 80's band still playing decently large venues. What should we do
for our next album? I know! We'll just go alternative! Yes! We'll join a
trend that is currently dying out in order to make a lot of money!
    Woo-hoo!"

Now, please tell me if you see any logic in the above conclusion, because I
    sure don't.

    >Yeah, but according to you we're not "fans" of the band if we don't like
    >the latest album. I like to consider myself a Queensryche fan but I don't
    >like the latest album, so I guess I'm not.

No, according to him, you are not a fan of the Queensryche of NOW. You're a
fan of the Queensryche that made all those lovable records before this one.
That's why when you go to their concert, you will cheer loudly when they
play "Eyes of a Stranger" and not when they play "Get a Life."

    getting a life,

Not really, sounds like a lame RPG to me, but there are possibilities...

Roll 2d10 on table B-III to see what genre your band is: 01: Rare or new musical style, see special bands list, Table B-IV, result is subject to TicketMaster's discretion. 02-25: Garage band, never to make it big. 25-50: Alternative band, gets signed for one album then systematically dropped. 51-67: Heavy Metal band, no one likes you anymore. 68-75: Rap band, becomes famous and then gets whacked by some rival from Compton. 76-90: Country band, beomes famous for 10 years, herds sheep in Montana in prime of life 91-95: New Age band, makes many albums that few people buy. 96-99: Techno band, use other people's songs to become famous. 00: Prog band, struggle for years to make an honest living and never gain respect.

    Wonder what game play would be like... Marilyn Manson Fan (20,000): AC:10 HD:2 hp:8 Treasure Type:nil AL:CE THAC0:20 No.Att:2 Dmg./Att.:1d4 Special: none

And heroes... Steve Vai: 25th Lvl Shredder AC:2 HD:12+13 hp:137 Treasure Type: Roll JEM table AL:CN THAC0:2 No./Att:3 Dmg./Att.:1d4/1d4/1d20 + SP Special: Shred (+5 AC Bonus, +5 THAC0, Dmg. Type: Sonic, Dmg. 5d10)

I dunno, call me bored, it might actually be fun. :) Of course I'd cheat on the dice and pick the prog band, but the country one does seem to be the most viable. I dunno.

Anyway, I've wasted WAAAAAYYYY too much space, but am to lazy to delete anything...

Why do you think he has 20 cymbals? To show off?I donīt think so! Dream Theaters music wouldnīt be the same If MP would downsize his kit. If you ask him to downsize his kit,it would be the same as asking John Petrucci to take a few strings off his guitar!Cymbals are one of the most important things that drummer needs. You can never have enough cymbals.

Salutations from the management and staff of Ytse-Survey II (me):

We have reached the halfway point of the survey, and we are on pace to easily surpass our goal of 150 participants. We are on a current pace for almost 180! Keep it up, guys! For those of you who haven't yet, e-mail me at syoung@phnx.uswest.net with your 10 favorite 'non-Dream Theater' bands/artists -- Entries will be accepted until 11:59 p.m., July 31st; at that point, the entries will be compiled and a Ytse-Survey II champion crowned.

Current statistics are as follows (as of 7/15/97):

Number of entries: 87 Number of different bands/artists mentioned: 252

    Current Survey Top 10 (with number of entries): 1) Rush (51) 2) Queensryche (46) 3) Fates Warning (36) 4) Savatage (29) 5) Megadeth (23) 6) Metallica (21) 7) Angra (20) Yes 9) Iron Maiden (19) 10) Steve Vai (18)

Rush seems to be leaving QR in the dust at this point, jumping out to their largest lead of 5 points. The Top 10 list consists of the same bands, once again, as last posting. There was quite a few place-swaps, though. Angra almost dropped clear out, last time, but have now shot back up to 7th. Megadeth and Metallica jumped together up to the 5th and 6th spots, respectively. Iron Maiden and Steve Vai appear to be on their way out.

Other bands/artists making the 'honorable mention' list (9 entries or more -- in no particular order): Genesis, Lemur Voice, Yngwie Malmsteen, Marillion, Pink Floyd, Joe Satriani, Shadow Gallery, Spock's Beard, Stratovarius, and Superior.

We still have 16 days to go, but don't delay -- SEND TODAY!

    Hey you crazzy jammerzz!!!

I hope everyone is having a great and pleasant summer. I just got back from my trip in Europe and the only thing I can say is "WHAT A FUCKING GREAT TRIP!!!" I met some great people, saw some great sights, and ate lots of great food. Anyway, it's great to be back home. I was very surprised to find some great DT news upon my arrival. I wasn't able too keep in touch through the web while I was gone, but ohh well..

I would like to start out by comenting on this D. Sherinian vs. K. Moore thread. What the hell are you talking about. How can you say that DS is better than KM or that KM is better than DS? I believe they are both incredible musicians and that's why they form or formed part of DT. I must say thet they do have very distinct styles, but they both have great talent (what an understatement). I know we miss KM some times, but DS will amaze you with his playing on the next album. Besides, I think he proved to be a very valuable asset during the AWAKE tour. He had to learn all of their songs in a couple weeks. And boy did he do a great job(another understatement).

As for DT changing their styles... Well all I can say is... I have a band and we take our music very seriously (no fucking around, well maybee sometimes), too bad our damn record company is made up of lazzy fucks, anyway.... I have noticed that it is only natural for a band to tend to change the feel of some of their newer material. I know we have. It is very difficult to explain, but if you compose you know exactly what I mean. So please refrain from assuming too much. Music comes from the heart and not from some formula. Please be patient, we will be surprised with the next album... just wait and see. You have to understand that selling out is not something you plan to do ahead of time, it just happens (for those of you who say that QR did).

Finally, I'll be up in L.A. July 24-27 doing a T.V. show and some recordings with my band, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a good rock club. Some place that has live music, preferably in the North Hollywood area. I know I'm too young to go to clubs or bars, but the rest of the members of the band are all over 21. Or if you know of any concerts during those days.

Thanks for listening. I hope all is well. :)

    Sincerely,

    God?

I've got a request for anyone out there feeling particularly kind and/or in need of cash. The realization of the situation has hit me -- that "Lie" single isn't going to get any easier to find. Being somewhat of a completist, this really irritates me. The thing is impossible to find! I beg of any of you, fellow 'Jammers, if you are to come across one of these "Lie" singles, double-plus-please pick one up for this poor boy. I'm good for the cash (plus there's a good chance of a pretty sweet tip)! Alternatively, anyone wishing to sell their copy of the single, I'm willing to pay da big-bucks. Well, maybe not "da big-bucks", but at least "middle-money"... Anyone wishing to discuss deals any further, please drop me an E-mail. (Thanks)

Hey, that sounds like me! 15 albums! (19 whenever my Bahr and Lodge discs arrive)

Another Fates question. My whining (I do that a lot, see?) seems to have touched the deepest cockles of Fates's collective heart, causing them to change the date of the Philly show, allowing me to attend... How're they working ticket sales? On sale yet?

One final note before I depart -- probably the best place to buy records (they're the big black circles with the lines on them) for very little cash are antique stores. Antique stores? That's what I said, antique stores. I just got another 12 records (everything from Carl Saint-Saens to KISS to the Pat Metheny Group), all in decent condition, from this crazy store near my sis's orthodontist (essentially a house filled with crap -- the records are piled in the basement behind a whole bunch of furniture and knicknacks) for a mere $8. That works out to, what, about $.73 an LP. Good deal!

I picked up the new Galactic Cowboys CD today -- it's great!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: IMHO, this band has grown in leaps and bounds since the changing of the guard at lead guitar, after the Space In Your Face album. No offense to Dane Sonnier, but Wally Farkas just has one of the coolest guitar "attitudes" out there. This is just a "cool" band. And the harmonies are KILLER!

I can't wait to finally see these guys live. With King's X working on putting out a 'Best of...' CD (and rumor has it that they'll do a tour), we may have yet another KX/GC show coming around. That would be great. I've only seen KX once (Dogman tour), and they were sandwiched in between Motley Crue and Brother Cane in Tucson back in 1994. Only a 6-song set, but well worth making the effort to see them.

Anyway, awesome new GC -- Check it out!

P.S. For those of you who would possibly care, KX and GC have 7 and 5 entries, respectively, in the Ytse-Survey Int'l II.
