I have it. The music is good, but I don't like the *game*. :) That's why I
    went back to '96.

    > FW got some praise...on
    >DT...well...hmm, er..."The first album is the best. "Awake" sucks.
    >First, it's too long..." That's the whole quote.

And I'd be willing to bet money that when they said "the first album",
they're talking about I&W. Duh. They're doing the equivalent of slagging a
movie based on some review they read. I don't mind if people listen to
something and then say "Nope, I don't like it", because they at least gave
it a chance. I'd like to know what the 2nd and 3rd were to go with "first,
    it's too long...."

Does this happen to anyone else? In normal comversation, someone will say
something to me that's either right out of a DT song, or right out of a
Rush song, and I immediately begin singing the rest of the song. Example:

Sane person: "Hey, Chris, how are ya today?"
    Me: "Good, thanks. You?"
Sane person: "Well, I'm here, lying in bed..."
Me: "Palm of her hand to my head."
    Sane person: "What??"
    Me: "Nothing, go on."

Yeah, but you're going to have shadow hair for a *long* time. You know how people who lose limbs still occasionally feel pain in them or something? Five years after cutting it, I still feel my hair whipping around, if I'm headbanging, or even just running, or something like that.

    Ahh, memories... :)

Deep DT Thought: Wouldn't it be great to be a member of the band? Cause, you know, you could probably hear the new album before it comes out, or something.

    ----------------- El Subjecto: Atomic Opera, Q & A with Mike Bahr -----------------

[Atomic Opera] Who here has heard the new Atomic Opera CD, 'Penguin Dust'?

I just now visited Dan Temmesfeld's Galactic Cowboys page, and my jaw dropped when I saw that Atomic Opera finally had a web page. So I visited it, and to my good surprise, I see Atomic Opera has a new one. I about peed in my pants, because 'For Madmen Only' is so freaking good. I'm going to order this puppy. Is the only way to get it through the web page?

I could do without the child pr0n on the front. :)

Deliberate misspellings make you sound cool in this business, baby. In fact, I'd say it makes you sound cooler than a hootananny.

    ------

[Q&A with Mike Bahr] I thought I'd just whip up a little question and answer session for Mike Bahr. Too bad I've only arranged the question part, but seeing as he'd look crazy for 'overlooking' these questions, I'd say it'd be safe to bet these will get answered.

    1. Which of your discs is YOUR favorite? You can't name one so it'll sell better. The honest truth. I'd bet it's Acoustic Dreams.

    2. On these CD-Rs, how are you making them 'counterfeit proof'? Take James Colberg's CD dupes of your previous discs. They're the standard CD-R with a magic marker title. (I love your service though, James, don't get me wrong.) Are these CD-Rs professionally printed on?

    3. You can't be serious when you say you're going to strand us with one DT disc a year. Ok, this isn't a question. :)

    4. You're always advertising that you don't make much if any doing these CD projects. Sounds honorable, but I could care less if you pocketed $20 out of $25. I'd hate to see you slaving over these things just for these ingrate, amp-connoisseur, George Farber-esque, D-Men on this list. :) Ok, this isn't a question either.

    5. Will you ever do a wider release Queensryche disc, preferably not from HiTNF?

    6. Would you ever clip Chris Ptacek's toenails for free?

    7. Would you do a 'To Live Forever Chronicles' DT disc just for D-Man?

    8. What facet of production is being done in a foreign country these days? :)

    9. Where did you find a chick that's so into this stuff? I literally can't even force feed DT to any chick I'm with.

    10. You have to be tired of plopping CDs into that burner. When are you going to retire?

    11. Have you experienced any fraudulent activity or shady behavior by Jammers? I've always thought it would be easy to say, "Woops, I never got my disc," to get a duplicate in the mail a few days later. How do you protect yourself from George Farbers like that?

    12. If the 80's was the 'me' generation, and the 90's the 'we' generation, what will the 00's be?

    ------

Ok, well that's it for today, kiddies. Drink lots of milk.

Yeah I was prepared for this when I chopped it off but I made sure I had some SYMPHONY X and WATCHTOWER in my car so I could reassure myself when the amputation was finished. Its only fueled my passion for progressive/black/melodic/shred metal.

On the topic of video games: TOMB RAIDER (not much of a soundtrack but the ambient tracks here and there are brilliant)..and my favorites for OLD Nintendo were Shadowgate, Trojan, Section Z, and the almighty Castlevania (pain in the ass Grim Reaper w/ those friggin' scythes)..and of course Kin Korn Karn of Pro Wrestling (ha)!

Hey, I deleted the jam it appeared in, but to the dude who was asking about the quote that went something like (as well as I can recall):

"Breathe? You mean you breathe that stuff?" "Only when I have to." "Maybe that's why you look so weird."

I think it might be from the movie "The Abyss." I'm not positive on this, but I'm pretty sure. Cheers.

    Hi everyone!

Well I just got back from two weeks of playing jazz at the University of North Texas State (recently named the #1 jazz school in the country by Forbes or something like that, and I believe it). The place was incredible, and for you drummers out there the teachers were Ed Soph (the head drummer @ UNT and a great drummer), Steve Houghton (a major LA session guy, youve probably heard him a million times on the radio without even realizing it), and Gary Chaffee (ex-head drummer at Berklee, and the private instructor of Joey Kramer, Jonathon Mover, Vinnie Coliauta, and the guy from U2, to name a few). These past two weeks were probably the two best in my life, and I learned more than I can even keep up with.. I am gonna be practicing a shitload for a long time.. I am also now an official "jazz-head" convert, but thats a different story altogether, and I still like DT and all that stuff so it really doesnt even matter.. Anyways, one of my fellow students who was in the intermediate group with me was Pat Mastellato, the drummer for King Crimson!! He is a really cool guy and a great drummer also, he did all sorts of weird polyrythym stuff that was really cool.. but he came to learn how to play with more finesse and better technique and learn a little about jazz, which he has really never played at all before. So here is some insider info for all the KC fans.. Pat said they might do something small next year (not a full album or a tour), but its not for sure yet. The last time they rehearsed together was around November I think, and Pat said they wont see each other again until December. Pat said there will be a new album and a tour in 1999 (seems like a long time, huh??). On the whole Dave Weckl thread.. Dave is a very great technician, but I am not very fond of his playing. In fact I am not very fond of anything on GRP Records, it is jazz, but it just doesnt swing. All technique, no feel. Ill take Buddy Rich, Elvin, Philly Joe, or Tony Williams any day over Weckl. BTW, he went to UNT and is a good friend of Ed Soph, and Ed wants to increase attendance, and I overheard a rumor that Ed might get Weckl to come to the summer drumset workshop next year.. with or without Weckl, I think any drummer who has any interest in jazz at all is crazy to not attend this workshop. It is opened to anyone ages 14 or older, and there was quite a wide range of experience and age, so I recomend this program to any drummer.
