This almost looks like an abbreviated version of Milan '93, which also
includes Metropolis, Afterlife, Eve, and Learning To Live. I know Milan
'93 is a copy of another boot, but it should be at least an A- boot by
anyone's standards. Thank you very much for your generosity, by the way
    - this post was not intended to slag you in any way whatsoever, it's
    just an observation.

OK, before I answer the prog question, I'll answer the "should I go?" question.

What are you, fuckin' loopy?? Besides being one of the best rock bands ever, they put on one of the greatest shows you'll ever see. If you *ever* get the chance to see them, go without hesitation. (Especially since you never know how much more Townshend has in him.)

OK, now for the prog question. My answer is "not really." They *do* have two concept albums (Tommy and Quadrophenia) and a couple of longer songs. Each member of the band is/was extremely talented at his instrument. Pete Townshend is one of the greatest songwriters in rock, without qualification. And if John Entwistle's bass playing doesn't impress you, you're clinically dead.

And, BTW, you can't go wrong with a Who studio album (or the live one). Each one is a genuine classic.

Hey, anyone have any Who boots? I got some neato stuff to trade.

I love NR, but I must agree with Jay. While it's a solid album, there's nothing close to Sister Chistian, Don't Tell Me You Love Me, or You Can Still Rock in America on it. It's not very hard at all, almost as mellow as the Shaw/Blades cd. At least it's not Grunge Ranger!!!

Frank, you must not buy very many cd's. (or you have very sensitive Nadz) :) -Trevor

Well, hopefully I'll have all mail answered before I go, and shipments are pretty much where I figured they'd be. From Friday to Tuesday I'll be in California; specifically LA and San Diego, since they've got me judging some Magic pro tour qualifiers. Any e-mail sent to me will be answered when I get back. Jammers

I had to delete my jams dating back to last August...GRRRRRR...

Anyways, I just picked up Angels Cry, Symphony X Divine Wings, Holy Land and Dickinson's Latest. All nice additions thanx to all of your recomendations.

    Back to my point....

Since I can't re-read my old jams to refresh my memory I was hoping that some of you could recommend or give me descriptions of Angra's other recordings as well as the same info on Symphony X and Stratovarius.

What I would REALLY like to hear is a Band combining the best of Symphony X and Angra - Angra's songwriting and melodies with X's Balls and Chunk and Solos.

( C'mon No fair teasing me I AM on this list cos I'm a Jammer )

Wuz gonna see Fates here in Phoenix at the Mason jar but they

Talk about small venues I have some friends in a band called Meld who play at this venue and we think it may hold 150 people (if nobody eats b4 the show) This place is probably smaller than your apartment. Why is Fates playing these types of venues...very sad....Great Band

Just a short one today (as the bishop said to the actress).

I know I'm not the only person on this list sick enough to like Meshuggah, so I thought I'd ask if any of you know anything about the new album. I was under the impression that it was due for release sometime in July. I checked the Nuclear Blast site and found that Meshuggah aren't listed anymore. Did I miss something? All info gratefully received, either private or here on the Jam.

I did, however, see that their guitarist, Fredrik Thorendal, has released a solo effort called 'Sol Niger Within'. The people from Nuclear Blast describe it as "sweet sounds of thrash mixed with infrno jazz". Methinks another trip to my CD dealer is called for very soon.

I know it says email privately, but hey, I might as well tell all you jamsters how the Who actually was, considering I saw them two days back at the Target Center in Minneapolis, and I'll answer the heathen's question.

I'll start with the question. Not really. The Who goes waaayyy the fook back. They were around to shape modern rock and roll around the time of Led Zepplin, Jimi, Black Sabbath and the like. They are kinda prog in the fact that they have done thematic albums, are currently touring with 13 band members, have long songs, and are amazing instrumentalists. But, you won't hear prog music, you'll hear, good, clean rock and roll. Highly reccommended; you may never get the chance to see legends like this again.

Now to ostensibly contradict that last sentance, I don't think the show I saw was worth the $52.50 I paid for the ticket. If I had another chance, I would have bought semi-nosebleed seats, and here's why. The interaction with the audience started with the last song of the set. They were touring as if they were supporting Quadraphenia, and not as if it was a reunion tour. They played most if not all of that album. The set was something like: song, video clip, song, video clip, etc. uninterrupted. It was basically the story of the album in vid and song. Before the last song, they finally said, "Oh, hi. We're the Who, by the way." in so many words. It would have been much cooler if I were aquainted with the album.

That's what sucked. The things that were cool was first, the 13 piece band. 5 piece brass section, 2 on keys, one on auxillary percussion, Peter Townshend and his brother on guitar, Entwhistle on bass, Ringo Starr's son on drums, and mindblock on the usual singer's name. There were many places where all of them were going on a big jam, and it just rocked. The sound was so full and rounded out, it was amazing. Peter is 100% suck free on guitar. The encore was what was cool. They played a lot of their good old tunes, like Behind Blue Eyes, Who Are You, and The Substitute, but they never got around to their great goofy tunes like Pinball Wizard, Squeeze Box, Goin' Mobile, and My Wife. Never did Magic Bus or the Seeker, either. If it were up to me, I'd still be there making requests. Entwhistle did a motherfucker of a bass solo, too. Damn, that's a good band.

    Confused about it all,

I'm English but was living in CA for 7 months - and I'm gutted that I'm gonna miss FW, Marillion, and Fish. I used to live 2 minutes from Club Kaos in Fremont. Don't tell me DT are gonna play near San Fran soon!!! thanks, -- Khurram

Hello, Could anyone with experience running a listserv mailing list (Dan?) please e-mail me help me out. I'm curious as to costs, etc. and capabilities. Don't you hate when its lunchtime, and you're hungry for something specific, but you just can't put your finger on what it is. Like its right at the tip of your tongue... I've been buying a lot of jazz CDs lately. My metal collection is suffering, but oh well... Got Brubeck's Time Out, now that it finally went on sale. Got Stan Getz: Best of the West Coast Sessions, Grant Green: Feelin The Spirit, and Joshua Redman: Live at the Vanguard (used!). Anyone wants reviews, please let me know, I'll happily provide. All this and my boot buying is gonna break me. Time for a part time job after work... Someone wrote: >gonna go see the who here in Pr, tomorrow night.. and they invited me.. >i was wondering... are they anything near progressive?

You're joking right? You've NEVER heard the Who? After you check them out, there's this guy named Led Zeppelin you should listen to...:)

    >While they cut out a few favorites (like Take hold of the flame) and >quite a few from the Operation Mindcrime set,

If this means they added more from PL, I'll be a happy man. If it means more from HitNF, I won't be so joyous... Yeah, that's right PL is my favorite album, go ahead and laugh. I was listening to them back at Mindcrime and I still think PL's songwriting is better. Anyway, this brings up: any Jammers going to the Garden State (fuck PNC) Arts Center show on July 27 (this Sunday)? Let me know. I'll wear DT if I know someone's gonna be there. If not, I'll wear my shirt from the PL tour. One of the best tour t-shirts I ever got... -- ______________________________________________________________ "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter..." -Yoda, the Jedi Master ______________________________________________________________ Andrew Forcier a.k.a.
