The word Savatage brings back old memories. I think I had an album
of Savatage some 6 || 7 yrs ago. I remember them as a piano playing
heavy ballade group. The album cover (as I recall) had this picture of a
    dude
playing the piano inside a mansion. The words "Gutter Ballet" sweeps my
    mind ....

Anyway, as I didn't care much for it, I sold the album to a friend for 50
    NOK (7 USD).
I would kindda like to give them a second chance, so if any of you guys
    have a
mp3 from that album (or another "kick ass" album), you know where to mail
    it .....

    Some DTC:
What's all the fuzz about the "Lie" single ?? Isn't it the same "Lie" as
    the one on Awake ???
Is it just a "must have" for DT fans ???

I look forward to the new DT CD, but if the skip Norway in their tour plans
    .......
Well, then I guess I'll have to book'em myself. Yeah that's what I'll do.
    They can
come over to my place to do a gig, that would really rule. And I could
    like schred along
with JP (I bet I'll schred him to kingdom come, or wuz it he who would...
    Ah, never mind. )

Hey, Alexander, (the other norweigian DT fan) you can join us !!!

"You can't afford booking DT" I hear you think. But DT, 'cause of the
    skipping Norway thing,
will do it for free. They won't let down a DT fan, would they ???

Mike P, John P and the rest of DT, if you read this, remeber Oslo, Norway
    !!!

yeah, that would be cool, but you know what a always thought we better? A
string quartet playing Metallica. You already heard how heavy a cello can
be...imagine it being doubled by a double bass...oooooooh. And then the
violin can handle all the leads.

and just for the sake of sharing an experience, i saw these guys live once,
and for those who haven't figured it out yet, the reason they sound so
heavy is because they play them cellos HARD. (It doen't come out so well on
the CD). Anyhoo, since they were so agressive while playing, they broke 2
strings during the night, and one of those strings broke during 'Creeping
Death' and it happened to the guy that was playing the leads, and on the
first string. Luckily he had already played the solo, BUT he still had to
do that fill b4 they go into the 3rd verse..so what does he do? Make noise
of course:) And then there's that part at the end where the guitar does
some triplet-pulloffs. Not having a first string anymore, he played that on
the 2nd string, which is the equivalent of playing the guitar at the bridge
pickup...it came out a little sloppy, but he did it, and everybody
    cheered...greatest save i've ever seen.

you definitely got the wrong impression from that sound file, because SB is
like the perfect blend of prog and pop. Catchy and musically stimulating:)

I'd guess it'd be best to start with 'Strictly Commercial' which a sorta
'greatest hits' thing, because he put out sooooooooooooooooooooo much
material. Over 60 albums if I'm not mistaken. Other than that I recommend
'You are what you is', or 'Sheik Yerbouti'. And if you're a Steve Vai fan,
you should get 'Them or Us' which has the song 'Stevie's Spanking'

yes, it's about Vai....and very funny.

"His name is Stevie Vai, and he's a crazy guy...."

ai karampaa, you jammed up ppl!

APOCALYPTICA. Genious work. You really appreciate the band when you get
to see them live. The sound is different than on CD, where it sometimes
feels a bit "cold". I saw them last December, in a club of 400 people.
All the four guys were dressed in black (MIB?), some in suits even, and
wore black shades & black gloves. They sat up on the stage with their
cellos, and took bows after each song like real professional cello
players (well, these guys are professional). First I laughed at it but
then realized how cool it all was. They moshed while playing and I was
thinking "doesn't that hair get tangled in the strings?" ;)

I like the old 'tallica stuff better too, wish they'd play more of them.
The crowd consisted of all types of people from older non-metal ppl to
young kids who hadn't even been born when Kill'em All hit the stores.
The singing was really loud and got me all goosebumped. The "black"
songs were received better of course thanks to the youngster dominated
crowd. All in all a bit breathtakin' experience. Excellent! *wayne
    voice*

    --
Talking about kewl dads. I guess I should consider myself lucky as my
pops is a huge Metallica fan. Having grown up to the likes of Deep
Purple, Uriah Heep, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, it's easy for him to get into
the "basic" metal of 'tallica. There is no chance to get him into more
proge stuff, sadly. My mom listens to them, too, altho her faves are
AC/DC & Bruce Springsteen. BUT 4-5 hours in the car listening to
Metallica when you're NOT in the mood can be as damaging as opera or
    Finnish tango stuff... Bleah. :)

At the bottom of Jay Omega's post I noticed he mentioned It Bites. I don't know how many Jammers have heard of these guys (or the Singer/Guitarist Francis (sometimes Frank) Dunnery) but you should definitely check them out. Unfortunately they've now split up but they had the grace to leave us with three studio albums and a double live one. They're style is progressive rock with slightly poppy overtones. Every musician (four piece, guitar, bass, drums and keys) is the dogs bollocks (that's good in England). Their best Album (IMHO) is "Once Around The World".

I agree with you 100%. It Bites rules!! I really got a kick the first time i´ve heard them. The rythm section are really tight and plays lot of cool stuff.

I haven't bought the CD, nor have I heard them play, but there have been some gigs here and I've heard mixed reviews. Most of them praise Apocalyptica to death, some of them say it's pointless.

The band itself consists of 4 classically trained cello players, so I think it's at least interesting, if not pleasing to your ears.

am i the only one who's had Fates Warning's Parallels for over two years and hadn't noticed that the album opens and closes with a variation of the same words?

Leave the past behind: And here we are again/the door is closed behind us/and the long road lies ahead

The road goes on forever: And here we are again/the doors close behind us/ And the road goes on and on......

Man, I fell dumb for not noticing this for so long......just sitting at work today, Parallels in the computer, got it on repeat and all of a sudden, I'm thinking, wait, I just heard this phrase 15 seconds ago (or whatever time)........and it hit me......that moment of discovery is so cool!

anywayz, whoever posted what set list for Fates shows would be much thanked by myself (and my itchy delete finger which chucked the pertinent Jam) if he or she were to send me a copy (ahtrap@umich.edu), so I can start figuring out which songs i need to memorize in the next two weeks.........

    Greetings, fellow Ytsejammers!

(I'm a bit new to this forum, so if I breach protocol, please be kind...)

I was a bit surprised to her It Bites mentioned here recently, I thought I was about the only one who knew about these guys. I would definitely recommend either "Eat Me in St. Louis" or "Once Around The World" to anyone unfamiliar with this band.

Secondly, I would like to thank all you 'jammers out there for turning me on to some really good stuff recently, that I may not taken a chance on if it was not for the glowing reviews I read here (specifically Tool-AEnima and Spock's Beard-Beware of Darkness). This makes me wonder: what else am I missing out on? I know that is a pretty open-ended question, so how about this... What is the best disc out there that nobody seems to know about?

(My suggestion to others along these lines would be Magellan-Test of Wills, btw)
