Ah, cool. I forgot the date for this show and was wondering. I'm
gonna try my damndest to make this, and, right now, it's a strong
possibility. Anyone know any directions? (e-mail me privately for
    this if you know).
Also, anybody going to the Megadeth show at The American Theatre
(that's how they spell it :) in St. Louis next Monday (Aug. 4)? I'll
definitely be there, possibly with some people, possibly by myself.
I'll also probably be wearing my huge ass jam shirt, so you should be
    able to catch me.

Hey jammers! I got quite a few CDs during my week of vacation, and I would
like to comment on some of them:

    King's X - Gretchen Goes to Nebraska
Well, after all the talk about KX in the jam, I had to get one of their
CDs and check out what these guys sound like. Well, I got the one that
almost all agreed was their best piece of work. After only a few listens,
I kinda like them, but I'm not that impressed. I mean, it's good music,
but it hasn't grabbed my attention yet.

    Savatage - Edge of Thorns
This is my third Savatage CD, and I must say it's quite good. I think
Criss Oliva totally kicks ass in this CD. Most of the songs are quite
good. I think it sounds like a mix between DWD and Streets.

Galactic Cowboys - The Horse That Bud Bought
This CD is quite good. It has the Machine Fish sound to most songs, mixed
with some old sounding GC parts here and there. I really like the songs
Evil Twin, Media Slant and Trip on Love. Is it just me or does Monty take
over the lead vocals role more on this CD than on any of the others?

Bruce Dickinson - Accident of Birth
This CD kicks ass. There's been plenty said about it, so please refer to
all of the other person's previous posts. It's like Maiden reborn.

    That's it. Bye!!!

    WOW!

Was I shocked when I heard this. Although I had never heard them
before. The choral and orchastrated arrangements are awesome!

If you don't know about this CD, it is part 1 of 3. The entire trilogy
    is about the Apocolypse.

Eric Clayton has a good voice, but doesn't show much range. Also I was
disappointed in the non-progness of each song. There was basic riff for
each song and that was it.

Also I thought it was going to be more gothic.

Yet, the CD is excellent and powerful!

A few years ago when I was overseas, I heard "Another Day" in a mall in Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia. JB is just across the straits, north of Singapore. Let me say that Singapore has the worst radio on this planet, with way too happy DJ's spouting wonderful things about pop groups that have been off the charts in the west .... when I was there, the popular people were Meatloaf, Bryan Adams, Duran Duran, and that ugly guy that kinda looks like Fabio and overdramatizes every song he sings.

In any case, it just about floored me to hear AD at that time. It kinda gave me a feeling that I just might make it back to the Western World and (more importantly) good music

Welp, I just went and signed up for the FF League!! (Even before reading Pats post about me in the previous jam.)

I was thinking that it would be kinda cool to set up some sorta prize for the winner. ( I think ESPN gives a t-shirt or something but la-di-freakin-da.) We should set up something where the winner can get 1 or 2 Mike Bahr boots or something like that. If we get 10 players, everyone would put $5 into the pot. The resulting $50 would be used toward some Bahr boots (or something similiar). What do you say?

We should take up the collection ahead of time so people can't back out when they end up with a 1-15 record (like the Jets). We would need someone to be in charge of collecting the dough. Maybe Pat or myself. I wouldn't mind.

I really think this is a cool idea and it would add a little more excitement to the game.

So lets get on over to ESPN and sign up already! There should be 5 spots left.

BTW - I heard from MetalBlade that FW isn't gonna be going on until about midnight at the Jaxx show. That's past my bedtime but I GUESS I can make an exception for FW. :)Can someone tell me what kinda stuff they are selling at the shows? T_shirts? Hats? Kevin Moore's appendages? Any idea how long it will take to get there from the Baltimoron area?

    Rychers-

I have a few questions about my favorite band next to DT. I have been listening to Hear in the Now Frontier like crazy lately. My opinion is that it is a very good album. I enjoy it. But when i listen to albums like Promised land or Rage for order I am floored by the emotion...etc Even though HITNF is a great album I can't even compare it to other QR albums because they are so good. Has anyone heard from interviews, etc...on why they went in this direction. Promised land seemed to me like the perfect beginning of a totally new sound but it seems like they walked away from it altogether. Any input? Also....Can someone tell me the plot of Operation Mindcrime. I love the album and i listen to it all the time but i always feel like i am missing part of the plot? Who singing in All I want?

    Thanks guys!

Hi! That was me. I looked around for people with DT shirts. But I guess I didn't look hard enough :-) I agree that the concert rocked. I was amazed with my seats, 6th row and bought the tickets about 5 days before the concert. I brought a friend who wasn't really into Queensryche or progressive music really), and after the show, he said that they were the best live band he's ever saw. I was glad he got to see what real bands sound like. Now to get him to a DT show . . . Anyway, I thought I'd mention the opener. They were a progressivish (is that a word?) rock band from around here (Rochester) called Pull. I thought they were pretty good. Kinda reminded me of Boston but a little more progressive. I was most impressed with the bassist. He was playing an 8 string lookin' thing. (I'm wondering if this was the Chapman Stick, anyone know?) and he was just tappin' away all over the neck of the thing. I wish a could have heard him a little better 'cause the vocals and drums were pretty loud. Oh well, all in all it was a good show.

.....and man, were they fucking amazing!!!!!!!

i want all the suckers (and i mean SUCKERS) that whined, saying shit like "ahh...geoff smokes too much. he can't sing the high parts anymore", or "ah man, they're losing it. they suck. the new album sucks..." to read the next few lines.

-geoff tate can sing still. very well. he hit EVERYTHING, without even trying. -the band was tighter than a fist in a baby's ass. it sounded great. that's what 15+ years of playing together can do, i suppose.

    couple of things.

    - met ytsejim, and some other jammers. real cool. yj, i hope you had a grand time giving degarmo head for me. - geoff tate, as awesome as he may be, is starting to frighten me a little. he's starting to look a bit like GREG LAKE. the hair, especially (greg lake, ca. 1992). all geoff needs to do is put on a little weight, and start singing "tarkus", and it will be ETP- emerson, tate and palmer. - michael wilton.......no mic...no vocals from him. this was rather odd. kinda weird to see degarmo and jackson doing the backing parts. -speaking of chris, very nice of him to discover the phase pedal like he did tonight on "spreading the disease." if i remember correctly, i believe i once saw him list "dark side of the moon" as one of his most essential albums (a guitar magazine long ago). -anyone know what bass eddie's using now? -scott rockenfield......incredible. it's almost unreal- he's as close to a metronome as i've seen. wonder what he's like when he plays "loose", if he ever has. -"bridge". amazing. never really payed attention to that song, but i think i'm going to have to listen a little now.

    - did anyone else there see the 2 lon-guylanders ho's walking around (there were a lot of them), one of them with the glitter all over? i didn't think plastic people could dig the ryche. maybe they were with their chumps...er...boyfriends.

so if you're waiting to see them, it's worth it. if you're whining, shut up already.

Hi, No DTC at all but the album's not far away now... At the bottom of Jay Omega's post I noticed he mentioned It Bites. I don't know how many Jammers have heard of these guys (or the Singer/Guitarist Francis (sometimes Frank) Dunnery) but you should definitely check them out. Unfortunately they've now split up but they had the grace to leave us with three studio albums and a double live one. They're style is progressive rock with slightly poppy overtones. Every musician (four piece, guitar, bass, drums and keys) is the dogs bollocks (that's good in England). Their best Album (IMHO) is "Once Around The World". Advert over... Dave (a UK Jammer).
