Just some comments about some CDs I have.

Agree or disagree, but these are my opinions.

    ENCHANT:

A Blueprint of the World is GREAT!
Wounded is good, but doesn't live up to their first CD.

    SAVATAGE:

How many of you agree that Dead Winter Dead is a true masterpiece, both
    lyrically and musically?
A Handful of Rain is awesome as well. Therefore does anyone have other
Savatage recommendations for me if I REALLY like the above two CDs?
I'm terribly impressed with these 2 CDs by Savatage...

    Galactic Cowboys:

I haven't heard their latest one yet, but have read some mixed reviews.
Some say it sounds like Nirvana?! YUK!!!!
Anyway, I would totally believe it, because I just heard Machine Fish for
the first time, and I think it absolutely sucks compared to their
self-titled and Space in your face CDs.

    Stratovarious:

I recently acquired my first Stratovarious CD "Visions", their new one.
It's fairly ordinary as compared to say, Superior or Shadow Gallery, but
still impressive. I like their aggression and Yngwie-esque sound!
However, I think they still maintain their own identity from Yngwie.
Any other recommendations as to which Stratovarious CD is best to get?
I've ordered one more, but cannot remember the name now.

    Well, that's it for now,
    Jon Case

Eckie said it best. It was a great show. The entire band seemed very
into the music, especially the bass player. Everything was tight, focused,
and audible :) I especially liked the different electronic drum sounds
that Zonder was using. They made the music sound very ethereal, especially
when intertwined with the keyboard parts.
Anywayz, It was great to meet all of you local jammerz here, and I can't
wait to see you all again this fall for DREAM THEATER. This goes out to
Jake, Chris, Fernando, Mike, Nathan, Ed, Scott, Rick, Huichi, and anyone
else that I may have missed...thanks for making my first "prog" night a
    great one :)

Salutations from the management and staff of Ytse-Survey II (me):

We're REALLY almost finished! We only lack 9 entries to reach the goal
of 150, but there are only 5 DAYS LEFT! PLEASE, for the final time, for
those of you who have been waiting until the last minute, and we're
there, e-mail me at syoung@phnx.uswest.net with your 10 favorite
'non-Dream Theater' bands/artists -- Entries will be accepted until
11:59 p.m., July 31st; at that point, the entries will be compiled and a
    Ytse-Survey II champion crowned.

Current statistics are as follows (as of 7/29/97, 10:00 p.m. AZ time):

    Number of entries: 141
Number of different bands/artists mentioned: 336

Current Survey Top 10 (with number of entries):
    1) Rush (77)
    2) Queensryche (68)
    3) Fates Warning (53)
    4) Savatage (51)
    5) Metallica (36)
    6) Megadeth (33)
    7) Angra (29)
        Iron Maiden
    9) Steve Vai (28)
    10) Yes (27)

It looks like QR will be stripped of the title, folks. Rush has now
built a 9-point lead, and I seriously doubt that the lead is in
jeopardy, considering that the survey is over in two days. Could it
be that 'Test For Echo' has been more favorable to 'Jammers than
'HitNF'? FW and Savatage flip-flopped places again. FW now has a
slight lead for 3rd...must be the outstanding (I hear) tour. Once
again, the same 10 bands/artists occupy the Top 10 slots, though, once
again, the order has changed. Yes is teetering perilously on the edge
of the Top 10. These last two days should be interesting.

Other bands/artists making the 'honorable mention' list (14 entries or
more -- in no particular order): Tori Amos, Helloween, Lemur Voice,
Marillion, Pantera, Pink Floyd, Joe Satriani, Shadow Gallery,
    Stratovarius, and Superior.

We have just 2 days to go, y'all -- we need just NINE more entries. I
know that there are at least nine of you out there who haven't
submitted. Let's have a huge push here at the end and go over the top.

No Ytse-Survey Int'l II content, either (that's elsewhere in the 'Jam).

I received my copy of Ty Tabor's (the incredibly gifted
    guitarist/vocalist GENIUS from King's X) solo CD, 'Naomi's Solar
Pumpkin', yesterday. All of you 'Jammers who profess to be true King's
X fans (and judging by the survey, there are at least 13 of you) really
need to order this disc, if you haven't already. It is thoroughly
enjoyable, and a great holdover until we get some new King's X, in the
very NEAR future, hopefully. It has a wide range of music on it,
all of which Ty performed and recorded himself (guitars, bass, drums,
and the coolest harmonies). From the powerful "Had To Move" to the
mesmerizing "Hollow Eyes (From A Disturbing Novel)" (my two personal
favorites) to the folksy "That's All", this is just a great disc; quite
possibly the most 'enjoyable' new disc for me this year (right up there
with the new GC, anyway). The disc is only $14 (postage & handling
INCLUDED), and arrived at my door in less than a week (my check was
actually made out to 'Ty Tabor' -- that is too cool). Check out the
details on the KX website (http://www.compassnet.com/grump/index.htm).
I guess I'm doing a lot of advertising for Ty, but I kind of felt like I
had to. The public, particularly KX fans, must know about Mr. Tabor's
efforts (and Mr. Pinnick and Mr. Gaskill's). Okay, that's about it.

Hello all! I picked up 2 new discs today. One is the new Pantera live
album. It's got 2 new studio tracks that sound more like Far Beyond
Driven than Trendkill, which is good, IMO, and the 13 live tracks are
excellent. The other is a double live Deep Purple from the David
Coverdale era. Whoa! It's got Burn (my all-time favorite DP song), and a
20-minute version of Space Truckin' (it still ain't prog, though ;)
Overall, there's 11 tracks covering over 2 hours of live Purple. A
must-have for fans of the MKIII lineup.

    >You may be a poser if you go to a guitar shop, pick up a new guitar and >then play the opeing riff of [insert Nirvana song here].

Possibly so. I just met one tonight, my friend's cousin. Let me honestly say I have never met a poser till today. I usually try to avoid contact with them. It was kinduv funny actually, since I was in my room playing guitar and he started asking me if I can play Metallica so I said I used but I've forgotten how to play most of their stuff. (Now keep in mind I really haven't been worrying about playing other people's stuff for about 2 years, so I've forgotten most of it). He keeps pestering me to play Enter Sandman so I finally start and he just starts wowing and commenting what a great guitar player I am (I quite honestly admitthat I suck leg, but that's beside the point. Praise is praise) :) Anyway, I start into Motorbreath and he just maintains a blank stare. I play One he freaks. I play Fade to Black. Blank stare. I see the pattern. I try again. I play Silent Lucidity he freaks, I play I Don't Believe in Love, blank stare. Of course he really freaked when I started playing Wait for Sleep so I guess there still might be hope. :) And I thought you guys were just being overdramatic about this. :)

Anyway, I saw Air Force One tonight. Great flick. Used quite a few too many cliche parts (like the wire crossing trick from Space Camp and various other movies). It did keep my attention the whole way through so it must have been pretty good. ;)

Anyway, you guys enjoy your Fates show, since I won't be able to see em. Buy me a T-Shirt or something and I'll send you the cash (honest!)

There was a song about the Trail of Tears by Europe on "Final Countdown" album. IMHO - a pretty decent band with good, thoughtful lyrics. It was about the Cherokee being moved from their land to a reservation. I don't remember the particulars but it was a cool song. I don't know if the DT song is of a similar vein. I'd be interested to know also. Anyone?

The Trail of Tears was what Indians called the long road to the Oklahoma reservation, where they were pushed away to make room for white folks. I've no idea as to where the Cherokees came into the picture. Maybe they thought up the term...

Even if the song isn't connected to the Trail Of Tears (it being Trial Of Tears), it's still quite well put title...

A couple of years ago a cd called "More Power Ballads" came out in Norway. It contained DT's Another Day. This could have given DT a lot of attention, but no one ever tried to play anything on the radio to make it a hit. The interesting ting is this.. Whenever I play DT for girls they just say it is to heavy, and they don't like James vocals... But when I show them Another Day, they love that song... I actually had to copy that song to one of them to... She didn't want anything else that that song...

A month ago I heard a nation wide radio station play ACOS ... Only the first ten minutes... But it made me fall of the chair and nearly crush my guitar ! :)

OK, first off - let's have some more participation here! We have a big FOUR people in the Ytsejam Fantasy Football League at ESPN's Sportzone. We need ten, I believe, to keep it in the family. There have to be six more people on this list that are interested...

Now for some DTC: (oh my god - from me!)

Does anyone out on this here list know whom it is that manages and or books our beloved DT? An acquaintance of mine is interested in booking them for a show (in MD - yeah!), but doesn't know how to get ahold of their representatives...

    Anyone out here know?

TTFN Mike (I feel like a sig today...)
