Hey Jammers.......I have been a huge Journey fan for years....I bought
the recent CD when it was released in October 1996. But 9 months later,
no tour at all......does anyone know why they chose to release an album
and not tour it? Steve Perry came here solo (Michigan) in 1995. he
played 2 of his own songs and the rest Journey songs.......

Actually, nope, they're not on the Spawn soundtrack. 8( BUT, I can tell ya
of a few bands/people who are:
Kirk Hammet does some stuff with some techno guy, and so is a techno-ized
version of For Whom The Bell Tolls, let's see what else? Slayer, Henry
Rollins, Marilyn Manson, Korn....etc. Mind you, every song on the album is
a techno type of song with an artist or band teamed up with some dj or
techno band. Here's the url for the web site for sound samples and a
listing of bands. Iced Earth UN-techno-ized would have been fuckin great I
agree though!

Agreed. I find it funny how we do that though, because 90% of the time when
I put on music like prog that is supposedly much more "advanced" then
what's popular people think it sucks. Either this means that the other
person listening is "wrong" because my music is "better", or they just have
a different opinion. Some people I might get to enjoy DT but most of the
time they don't want to bother to put forth the effort to listen to it
because they just don't care. It's about opinions people, music is
subjective. DT may be more progressive, but does that really matter? Should
it be required that more people like DT cause they're better musicians and
write longer songs? Most of these questions are rhetorical, but take a shot
at answering them if you want.

Exactly. I was at a generic high school party recently where a 16 year old
girl told me to put on some Metallica. I put on Master of Puppets and she
told me she just wanted to hear "the Sandman song". I told her to listen to
this and give it a chance, and she might like it, but she insisted on just
one song. This is another example that the mass market that buys popular
music (young people) don't really care about albums or bands or even
STYLES. Most people in my class are fans of all different types of music,
and if you listen to the radio you'll find tons of different shit is out
there, but it's almost always somebody will buy an album and become a "fan"
of a band because of one or two songs. Dave Matthews Band is one of the few
popular music bands with actual music talent and whenever somebody puts in
their disc or I'm listening to the radio I hear the same 2 or 3 songs off
their two albums.

i haven't payed much attention to the thread that's been going on (yes, i'm ignorant, and i LIKE it that way!), but last night, i saw something that made me think a lot.
as with all things, we tend to worship mediocrity and crap. gone are the days of trying to sound original- even in a bar-band situation. because a band i saw covered jewel, alanis, the cardigans, etc., they were considered "good." no attention was payed to how it really sounded- how well the musicians performed. they LOOKED good (complete with the token hot singer chick toting a tambourine, and your knicks-jersey wearing stud man), made the right MOVES, and kept a beat. if they could have at least played a tune of their own (as cheesy and po-ish as it may have been), they would have saved some grace.
yes, it's a bar (the dublin pub, in long island). yes, it's cheese. but i've never seen so many people love shit as i did last night. no, i'm not saying they should have covered "pull me under" or "tom sawyer". what i'm saying is the cliches that so many bands i see (this also tended to be the point for a lot of bands i saw at the ny music fest last week) make me sick. this band (and any other) could have done their oasis, their gin blossoms, etc., but if they had done something INTERESTING (and i don't mean playing an evh solo in it- little things, like an intriguing arrangement, which isn't so hard to accomplish if you have half a musical brain), it would have been good.
this, and coupled with my reading of "the fountainhead" (a book i loved AND hated- anyone who wishes to discuss this book with me go private), sometimes makes me GLAD that i'm going to law school. pity that a lot of the people who have talent and are doing good things for music are starving. is it a coincidence that a lot of them call themselves "progressive" musicians? not that it matters...

Yes the last album I bought by them was "Still Climbing," which was a little too hard to be played on a mainstream rock station, but not quite hard enough to be found on a metal station. Not that I've ever heard a metal station or anything. Kinda like how I've never seen a live Smurf. It's all rumors, unless you talk to that crazy Mulder guy. Because most humans love the taste of FAT. This holds true for lots of mammals. Lots of people I know make fun of McDonalds, but when we're on I-5 and none of us have eaten for eight hours and there's a sign for a McD's, they become strangely accepting to the idea of eating there.
I once saw a Far Side cartoon which featured a man telling a ghost story to a bunch of children sitting around a campfire, which featured a little boy who "slowly raised the bucket of lard to his lips...and began to drink!!" Not much different from what happens if you squeeze a quarter pounder really hard. You might get all kinds of crap all over your hands, but it proves a point and will make you feel years younger.

I could make a point here that's it's just as disturbing that you know the names of these characters. Kind of like how I can name all the New Kids On The Block or the Spice Girls. But it's more likely that we're just victims of overexposure. Just like when the shutter gets stuck and you're strapped with 1600-speed film. Group hug.
But why pick on Grimace? Are you sure you're not just venting anger at a helpless target? I mean, what exactly is Gonzo? Cookie Monster? Grover? Elmo? Frazzle? (not that I expect anyone to remember Frazzle) And what about Oscar? Is "grouch" a type of animal? And what exactly is a platypus? Supposedly a mammal, but it lays eggs? Webbed feet, AND covered with fur? Can you say "Creation Leftovers" boys and girls?
Sounds like the kind of stuff McDonald's puts into its food. Webbed feet, eggs, fat...basic food groups I guess...

1) My CD player has a Prog. button on it. It'd be really neat if it would turn the music in the player to some whoop ass prog metal.
2) I think being into prog music has turned me into an arrogant asshole. I was cranking Awake in my worth-more-than-the-car-itself car stereo, and I pulled up behind a van with KDWB stickers all over it. For those not in the Twin Cities, KDWB is the local widest variety of shit radio station. I literally thought, "Those people must be morons. They only listen to that music because intelligent music like DT would blow up their brains. I, on the other hand, am far above them when it comes to sheer intelligence, for I AM A DT FAN!!!!!!" :) (Not the biggest DT fan, though.) ((or the biggest Metallica fan.))
And then I go and post shit because I can't recognize sarcasm when it shits up my nose. Ah, well, not like hypocrisy is inherently bad, or anything.
