    Hey all:

Guess who's going to the Fates Warning concert in Forth Worth this
    Saturday? That right, ME!!!!!!!!!!

Just wondering if anyone else is going to be attending this event.
E-mail me personally if you are, and maybe we can hook up at the Caravan
    of Dreams.

By the way, this place has only a 600 capacity on a first come, first
serve basis. SO, I should be able to get a real close look at Fates.
Just like the Steve Vai concert in OK city, where not many people
attended at this country place called "the diamond ballroom", I got a
real close look at Steve and his band. Totally awesome!!!
Hopefully Kevin Moore is touring with them. That would be WAY COOL!
Anyone know if Moore is playing with the Fates?

Tickets were only $15.50 by phone, very reasonable IMO.

    Well, later everyone!

Whoah whoah whoah... A wanna-be alternative band? Is this not a perfect
summary of the sad state of music in popular American culture? Groups of
people get together and unsuccessfully attempt to emulate Nirvana and
    Radiohead? Now, a wanna-be progressive-metal band I can understand, but a
    wanna-be ALTERNATIVE band?

Also, I have talked to another one of my friends that lives near him (Miami), and he said that he had heard it (the single), it was all true ,and that the song "rocked nads!!" (even though it was their simplest song to date). I will keep you guys posted and let you know as soon as I get it. Joe PS thanks for the good word rick. By the way how's the new job?

I'd like to hear Brandon's radio show. :)

Okay.. now to prove I have a point here.. the person who said they are = going to try to get the new single from their friend.. why don't ya put = it in wave format and throw it on a web page/ftp site so we can all hear = it, don't keep it all to yourself! At least until it's officially = released. Some of us jammers don't have the lucky connections. :(

APSoG is one of the featured CDs in BMG music club this month.. mixed = reviews from the jam, but I think I'll give it a try. I love concept = albums and long semi-conceptualized songs.

This is a point I was going to bring up. Someone (mike? Sav?) from NOVA should find a nice place, and we can all hang out. I know there are going to be many jammers at the show, to include D-Man, me (!), jens, Hartman, Steve Z (how many UMBC grads/students can be into Fates? I'd say five!), Pat? Taco Belhai? Backof? Iban? Mau? etc. Soooo, since I know nothing about the restaurant topography in NOVA, someone hook us up! I am defintely up for this.

I don't know what you define as "prog", but as much as I've heard, Cynic sometimes falls into that category, sometimes sounding more like death/fusion.

A Latvian band called Neglected Fields also sounded a lot like a prog/death crossover, last time that I saw them. Then again, those guys just worship Cynic. :-)

I bet there are more. Those two genres seemingly differ from each other like night and day, but the differences are sometimes only superficial. Raitz

Scott Ian - Anthrax Charlie Benante - Anthrax Dan Lilker - Nuclear Assault (ex-Anthrax) Billy Milano - M.O.D.

Billy was (as I've been told) just a guy next door who was picked because he looked brutal enough. After S.O.D. he thought, "Wow, being in a band is cool," and formed his own M.O.D.

I guess it's probable that they have the same line-up. It would be blasphemous if they changed any members and not the name. It's a project after all, not a full-time band that needs growing, maturing and sometimes some replacements.

Side rambling: I just came back from my 2 day trip from Moscow and all I can say is, "Wow!" The city is just so damn HUGE! I had almost forgotten what Soviet Union felt like, now I felt it again. Then again, I guess it's just Russia, just Moscow, you can't find its spirit anywhere else.

One big bonus to Moscow: you just can't get lost there if you have a map of the subway.

Bought lots of CD's. They cost about 2-3 bucks there (brand new items). They're "not a hundred percent legal", though... ;-)

Come on! If you're living in NJ you should be listening to WSOU(89.5). This station is so awesome. If you request for DT they will play it! I forget the phone number but if you call between 6 p.m. and noon they'll play anything even remotely metal. Hehe, I heard Met part 1 and UAGM together once! That was cool. I don't know if they have any singles. So you might not be able to get TLF, or Eve. Also, they don't have WDADU. This guy who used to work from 8a.m. to noon used to play DT, Qr, and Savatage. Well okay I heard Sava once, but, once is better than nil. :)

    Yo,

One word: Cynic. Sean Malone can probably describe Cynic better then I can since he was in the band, but I'll give it a shot. They started off as a purely death metal band in the Florida death metal scene back in the late 80's early 90's. As they grew older they started to mix some jazz and proggy influences into their sound, and with the addition of super-bass/stick/musician Sean Malone they recorded Focus, one of the best albums I own. To further throw you off they use lots of guitar synth for keyboard like sounds and the vocals are a mix of death metal growling and robot/computer type voices done with a digitech vocalist. They're very progressive, and the arrangements are extremely technical and well done. They go from straight ahead death metal to a nice clean break with jangling chordy word and fretless bass all in the same song. The vocals might be a turn off for some prog fans however. My only complaint is that, at 36 minutes, it's too short, and the production is more like standard death metal (buzz saw guitars and little bass to be heard) then anything progressive.

That does blow. I'd have been pissed. I'd throw acid on the bouncers' faces and run by cackling, screaming something to the tune of Monument. There are some great injustices in this world... one of which is the fact that bars don't realize that some people would rather watch the music than get slammed.

    > Wade > > P.S. MP had some very nice things to say about Magna Carta records and their > artists. He said that "They are *the only* label in existence that has based > their entire roster on music and talent, and *not* money!" Cool!

ROFLMAO!!! Yeah... they base their entire label on letting great prog bands put out albums with limited artistic freedoms, and make sure not to give the bands any of the money! Magna Carta is the progressive Shrapnel records. They help us out by giving us great music, at the expense of the musicians.

FATES FANS! Who will be at the Mabel's (Traditionally a 19+ bar, but I don't know how heavily they'll be carding kids for this show, since it's summer. It's in a college town, so they're pretty lenient) show on Aug. 12th? Who will be at the House of Blues show (18+) on the 17th? Let me know personally! St. Louis jammers! C'mon! You MUST be there! Any out of towners for the 12th, let me know. I can hook you up with a place to stay probably.

SOD consists of (as it did back in the good ol' days: Scott Ian-guitars, Dan Lilker from Nuclear Assault on bass (who btw, played on the very first Anthrax album before Frankie B.), Charlie Benante--drums, and Billy Milano ( I don't know what band he was from). I WISH SOD would come through Atlanta SOOOOO fuckin badly. 8(

Anyways, on an interesting side note, I picked up Pantera's new live album, Official Live: 101 Proof, that has 2 brand new tracks on it. GREAT GREAT GREAT live stuff! Capture's Pantera's arrogance quite adequately I think which is what I love. It was just released today, so go get it!

On a Spawn side note, I listened to a few tracks off of it in the store to get a better picture of it that the wav files, and it was pretty cool. I didn't pick it up yet however. The For Whom The Bell Tolls mix (called, "The Irony of It All," is pretty cool. You MUST like techno/industrial stuff to dig this album though, even the Slayer song (No Remorse) is very industrialized. hehe.

    D-Man,

As far as I know, Charlie wasn't there. They were billed as S.O.D w/ Scott Ian, but I could be wrong, because I didn't see them, and I don't know the members of SOD or Anthrax real well. Hell, I had a hard time recognizing the members of Obituary, and that's the band I was there to see!! Guess I'm not the world's biggest Obituary fan, either. :) I left after Obituary, since I had a 6 hour drive ahead of me, and I had to be concious at 10 am the next day.

As far as Low Rider, I think I've heard what you're talking about before, but hell if I'd be able to tell you what band it was.

I rent it at a store a couple years ago, so I made a copy on tape. There's 10 songs from guitarists I never heard of them. Maybe today a know some of them but I don't have the names cuz I didn't print the CD booklet. Does anyone can help me? I want to know if this CD is independent or distributed by a record company.

This album is very good. Some tracks are like Satriani stuff. One guy reproduced a Chopin's suite on an acoustic guitar, real fast, very fast. Thanx in advance for the help!

Does anyone here besides me find comfort in Dream Theaters music. I know it's probably an off-color question considering the main topics of this list are: bootlegs, tour dates, and other bands.

Does anyone find that some of their music talks to them on a personal level? Does it talk to you spiritually? In many DT songs there are biblical overtones. Are DT themselves religious in some way? If one can answer that, please reply;)

Anyway, ponder on this and let me know.
