Hiya,
Can anyone here help me out with where Eddie's Bar is in Portugal ? I'll be
going there for summer holidays and would like to stop at the bar if it's
on my way.
Private mail preferred.
Thanks in advance, doods.

>Huh? I can't think of any Savatage songs that are realllllly long. Please
help clarify this.
Well, for starters - on average, Savatage's songs run 5:00-5:30 minutes,
about
1-2 minutes longer than most metal songs. Not exceptionally long, but they
have longer
songs over and above these. Here's most of them:
When The Crowds Are Gone (5:47), Gutter Ballet (6:21), Hounds (6:11)
Hall Of The Mountain King (5:55), Streets (6:48), Tonight He Grins
Again/Strange Reality (8:02),
Agony & Ecstacy/Heal My Soul (6:11), Somewhere In Time/Believe (9:02),
Chance (7:49), Alone You Breathe (7:29)
Sure, they have short songs. For example, every song except one on Fight
For The Rock is
under 4 mins. It all depends...what era was Savatage in when you started
liking them?
And another thing:
>"Free Hand" (considered to have some of the more accesible tunes.
>contains a song with 5-part a capella madness, and a sample of the first
>
Otay, I was under the impression that Savatage was the first band to use
5-part counterpoint
in rock. Paul O'Neill said in an interview following the Handful Of Rain
sessions that the song Chance marked the first use of a 5-part
counterpoint, as far as he knew. Just for clarification purposes...and
bragging rights for fans of the 'Tage < :-) >, when was "Free Hand"
released? (Year will suffice).

Warner Bros. still has I&W and Awake, the only 2 they've done, in print,
although
somewhat difficult to get. Any reputable sheet music dealer should be able
to get both of these.
I ordered these together and waited 8 months for them. Apparantly, they ran
out of the last batch
and were printing another run. If this Japanese company printed ANYTHING by
DT, it's long
out-of-print and definitely not available domestically. Both are quite
accurate, save for the
occasional misspelled vocals. (IE...PMU - Every day sends future to post).
I'll leave others later.
BTW...ACOS has not been published, although I have almost finished doing it.

If you're into the more progressive fusion realm of jazz, pick up just
about anything he's done with Return To Foverer. I'd personally go for
the stuff with Al DiMeola, Stanley Clarke and Bill Cobham on it, just
because that such a powerful collection of musicians. He also has some
older stuff before RTF which is a little more on the traditional side of
jazz. I have "Before Forever" which is circa late 60's(?) It's still all
great stuff, though. The guy transcends the instrument!
Speaking of jazz and fusion, I just have to recommend - with every ounce
of my soul -a CD I picked up yesterday. Russ Freeman & The Rippingtons'
Curves Ahead (1991) on GRP Records. I've noticed a lot of excellent
music coming out on GRP. This is one of 'em :) For those of you into
crossover, this shit it the

the clerk for playing with my emotions like that :):) Until I saw it in
the booklet with Warners' name beside it!

There was no hell in my post, only heaven :)
I could be wrong since I'm not as attuned to the record store business
as others on here (perhaps someone can enlighten), but I personally find
it hard to believe that a larger chain like Strawberries would be
involved in a campaign of disinformation.

Went to the infamous Tunes in Hoboken once again yesterday to
pick up the new Faith No More -- unfortunately, they were sold
out, which kinda surprised me. So anyway, perusing through
the El Cheapo bin once again and the rest of their stuff, I wound
up buying 5 CDs anyway. This one is worth mentioning here....
The CD: G3 - Live in Concert
The Tracklist:
Satriani
1. Cool No 9
2. Flying in a Blue Dream
3. Summer Song
E. Johnson
4. Zap
5. Manhattan
6. Camel's Night Out
Vai
7. Answers
8. For the Love of God
9. The Attitude Song
All three
10. Going Down
11. My Guitar Wants to Kill your Mama
12. Red House
It was recorded over a span of 4 days (10/30/96-11/2/96), and
it very cool (listening to it now)......
I didn't hear anyone mention it, so I figured maybe some people
(like me) didn't even know about it.
And the kicker is - I got it for 9.99!!!!!!!! I love Tunes!
Anyway, the new album is very unlikely to be the one released in
July, if there even is one going to be released. I'm thinking
more along the lines of some type of live EP, a la LaTM, dealing
with either the Home for the Holidays Stuff or Ronnie Scott's....

Here here! This is an excellent album. I've been a Rippingtons fan for a long time...longer than I've been a DT fan, and this album is one of their best. I wouldn't consider it to be fusion, though. It is contemporary Jazz with a lot of kick. I'd stay away from their newest releases. I find that the newer music turns into wussy contemporary. Then again, if you're into that sort of thing (ala Kenny G.), go for it. A couple of other great Rippingtons releases are "Weekend in Monaco", and "Welcome to the St. James' Club".
