Hey! For your information, I WAS in downtown Detroit last night after the
game and let me tell you, there was nothing bad happening there! Yes sir,
just a bunch of smiling happy people loving life because after 42 years we
FINALLY have the cup! So, please, do remove all of your negative images of
Detroit, it's no where near the bad place it was....about 8 years or more
ago....This place is really starting to come alive and with the new Stadium(s)
and Casino, this place could FINALLY be a tourist attraction. Thanks for
putting up with my NDTC Jammers, but I felt it necessary to set the record
straight about the "body count" in Detroit after the victory :P

Here's some info I found onn a Dutch Prog Rock web page.

    http://145.89.78.151/~martijn/Welcome.html

    In the news section.

Dream Theater will release their new album in September/October.
The producer is Kevin Shirley, who was the engineer on the Rush
    album "Counterparts".

Dream Theater have more than 2 hours of new material. They don't
know if the result will be a double-album.

    Best Regards,

    Hey All ...

So, how many people thought I dropped off the face of the
earth? :) I've been busy, just ask Paul "I swear I'm gonna kill Skadz
if he doesn't make those CDs soon" Cashman :) (i promise i will get
    to them soon paul)

OK, so a bunch of things. First, since I know someone asked
at some point, we are up to 1185 subscribers (probably will drop by 30
or 40 once I get through my ugly ytsemail mailbox (currently at 7738
    messages))

Second, if you haven't noticed, the archive is busted big
time. I haven't had time to talk with the guys at AX yet, so it
hasn't been fixed yet. I personally have jams 2287 to the current one
on my machine. If you NEED to get a copy of a jam, mail me and I will
    send it to you.

Oh yeah, since I haven't posted in a while, if any of you
haven't been around too long, I'm Skadz, I run the list :)

Let's see. Could we stop all the stupid discussions or is
that WAY too much to ask? I mean, arguing over Alanis, or what
country is better, or any other shit like that is stupid. Since I
have started keeping up with the list again (read the last 14 jams or
so), I will start to get pissy if people keep up stupid posts. Could
we at least keep things music related? I love seeing reviews of shows
and new CDs (not that I can buy them :( ), but the stupid shit annoys
me. Also, personal replies are SO much better than posting to the jam
when it involves only 1 person.

Other than that, not too much to report on this front. Just
kinda being working my ass off and partying on the weekends :)

Well, that's the update from me. If you need something, feel
free to email me and then start praying for a response ;)

    Later!
    Skadz

Thanks everybody for helping me decipher the end-part to "Pull Me Under."

I saw G3 last year in Valley Forge, PA in the now defunct Valley Forge
Music Fair. Anyway, this place is like circled seating and the stage
is/was like in the center. The stage was like a huge lazy-susan and as
soon as Vai started playing, the stage rotates for the whole show, so you
get different perspectives of the band. It was wild. I'm not sure if
Satch was supposed to have a rhythm guitarist with him, but the night I saw
him, they(Satch and Stu Hamm) were using a sequencer for some rhythm guitar
    stuff.
    Talk to you later,
    Freakboy

"Oh that this too, too solid flesh would melt..." I think I got it now!!!

Saw someone ask about this and since I'm the lone person to purchase it,
I thought I'd give my impressions. As far as I'm concerned, this is a
great cd. Their previous one was good, but obviously they were going to
the same well to often and the formula that worked on their first two
albums was begininning to wear thin on their last album. I find
revolution to be a more mature sounding album for Slaughter and anyone
who evenly remotley likes this band should give it a shot as this is
by far their most diverse album so far. You won't be dissapointed. They
sure have come a long way since Vinny Vincent Invasion(check out the
hair if you have this old gem-ouch!). Later, KevMan.

      Exactly.

Marillion's "B'sides Themselves" was released after only 4 studio
albums, but that was because Fish left that year ('88). They also
released a live double album in '88... It was the perfect time to
release those albums... In 1989, Marillion found themselves a new
(and completely different) singer to replace Fish. Releasing them
      after that, would've been stupid.

    >> Btw, all of Marillion's albums are being remastered, right now. And

    >> Bsides, demo's, rare recordings, the works !

    > have to buy them all over again.

      Like I did :-)

    > Let's hope we get them here in the country I live in. ;-)

Well, that's going to be a bitch. EMI has no plans for a US release.
Maybe that will change, if the people on the Marillion list complain
about it enough :-) Hey, we managed to secure a US tour for them,
later this year, so who knows !

Btw, if you're interested in a limited edition (1000 copies), numbered
(possibly/probably signed) Marillion live album (to be recorded during
the US tour), all you have to do is contribute $25 or more to the Tour
Fund :-) The CDs are a token of Marillion's appreciation and will be
sent out to all contributors of $25 and over ! There are still 600 cds
(or so) left. They won't be available in any other way, shape or form.
Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you the info you need !

Ps. the Tour Fund was set up by a Marillion mailinglist subscriber,
not Marillion themselves. Their keyboardist, Mark Kelly, is also on
the list and offered the 1000 discs, after talking things over with
managment and the rest of the band. Marillion lost $35000 when they
last toured the US, and that was the amount we were going for. Last
      thing I heard, we've already collected (at least) 40 K. :-)

I made 2 mistakes in my last post about the ending to PME (not TTT as I
had stated). The other thing is that JLB sings WHOLE notes, not half
notes as I stated. I'm sorry, but I just wasn't paying attention when I
    was writing this morning.

On another NDTC note, I'd like to thank everyone, especially those
'jammers on IRC, who have been so concerned about my parakeet Kirby while
he is recovering from abdominal surgery. You guys are great!!! Kirby is
doing much better, but he looks pissed off, and he still won't talk. But
at least he's getting stronger. :)

Ok dude! First thing: It's *Mamalookabubuday* or if you rather you can
    call
me "The King Of The Internet." ;-)

    2. I was just making a joke about the fatalities thing. And it wasn't
    because
it was Detroit. I'll assume you haven't lived in a cave for the past few
    years
so you know that after teams win championships the city of that team
    tends
to go a little nuts. Look what happened in Colorado after the Nordilanche
won the Cup last year and you'll see what I mean. Personally I don't see
why people want their teams to win titles because it seems to lead to
violence a lot of the time.

    3. I've only been to Detroit once, last year for the KI$$ show at Tiger
Stadium. I had a wonderful time. I have a friend that lives in Warren
so it was a good excuse to go there. I think Detroit has gotten a bad
rep over the years and it's actually not a bad place in a lot of areas.

So there ya go! I think I explained it pretty well, and I didn't have to
    scorch
your ass to do it. :)

I have seen some questions on the band Triumph lately on the Jam. I,
too, am curious as to their status, and that of Rik Emmett, who departed
the band after the "Surveillance" album for a solo career.

Triumph was always considered a poor man's Rush, but I thought they were
terrific. They weren't as "progressive" (whatever that means), but I
thought they could hold their own against Rush. Emmett is simply a
superb guitar player, as good as anybody in the biz.

If you wish to check out their stuff, try "Allied Forces," "Never
Surrender", or "Thunder Seven." It was during this stretch that they
were at their peak, musically (IMHO). Though "Just A Game", "Sport Of
Kings," and "Surveillance" were darn good. Don't get "Edge Of Excess,"
    whatever you do! IT SUCKS!!!!

Check out the King Biscuit "Triumph: In Concert" CD. It was recorded on
the "Allied Forces" tour, and it is great.

I am currently rebuilding my Triumph collection on CD, though it is
tough to find used Triumph CDs. So far, I have found "Stages," "Sport
Of Kings," "Allied Forces," and "Progressions Of Power."

I'd love to hear from any other Triumph fans out there. Feel free to
    write back.

Actually, I don't think copyrights issues were the reason that they left
    "The Big Medley"
out of the version, because they left LTL out too in the I&W book (grrr! :)
    ) .
I don't know, maybe they have a maximum number of pages to publish, and
judging by the appearance of the book, they don't seem to have any
permission to do it from anyone (or it's just an impression?).

    See ya!

Nope. It's from Shakespeare. He says "Oh, that this too, too solid flesh
would melt." The whole song is supposed to be about something to do with
    Shakespeare.

Well, the song tells something very similar to Hamlet's indecision
of killing or not King Christopher for mudering Hamlet's father. I have
not read Hamlet, but I have been told the history. King Christopher killed
Hamlet's father to marry his mother, Queen Gertrude.

I think that the part (Soliloquy) is pretty evidenced when LaBrie
sings "I'll take seven lives for one,
And then my only father's son (aka. Hamlet :-) )
As sure as I did ever love him
           I am not afraid

This world is spinning around me
The whole world keeps spinning around me"

I think that these last two verses show the confusion of Hamlet.
But I may be wrong and I'd really love to know, because I have never
formally studied anything of English Literature. I'm only a Computer
    Science student. Nothing besides this.

            []s, Roger...

In this case, you must find out who owns the print rights to the artists music, and then send it to them...not the record company or the publishing company. Unless of course, like DT, the publisher also owns the print rights. If they don't publish your transcription, I presume they just send it back.

    >Perhaps a few of the songs' owners are refusing permission to have those >songs transcribed, thereby holding up the transcription of the entire "Big >Medley." > You cannot legally publish a song without the permission of the publishing company (obviously). Warner Bros. owns the print rights to DT's music, so this Japanese company cannot legally print DT sheet music at all without WB's permission. (Which they'd never give). As far as the covers go, if they got the permissions of the respective publishers, they should be able to do it. Most likely, WB would want to, though.

And speaking of cheap-shots... how about the Ducks on the Coyotes JR? That was the one big reason why they beat Phoenix...they took out one of their star players. Same thing happened to Colorado.

(Before anyone starts...I'm excluding DT...they belong to the prog rock genre, not the straight-forward metal genre.)
