Actually, Shinko did publish the full score transcription to the ACoS
album, but they left out the big medley, for copyright reasons, I
suppose, but if that was the case, why did they include the first three
    live tracks? Who knows?

    I hate radio stations.

I'm out here in Boston, and I found out that the radio station that will
    be
carrying the broadcast will not be airing it until next week. I leave
    Boston
for Chicago next week. Chicago, I believe, has already aired the
    concert.
    Talk about timing.

On top of that, I figured that I could at least get a listen to the show
    via
KISW's RealAudio broadcast. Turns out that their set up was messed
up and there was this really annoying buzz which made the broadcast
    unlistenable.

So, I would like to get a copy of this show. I know Scott Cook said
    that
he would be up for trading if he got the show on tape, so if Scott or
    any
other Jammers out there happened to get an excellent recording of the
concert, I would be interested in trading for or buying a copy of the
concert so that I may be able to put it on CDR media for me and others
who may be interested in it. Please notify me at bogie@mit.edu
(bogie@sage-enterprises.com is my work address) and hopefully we
    can set something up. Thanks.

    Ryche on,
    Nick

I always though the stuff like the title track and Nature of the Beast
were considered crossover. They could call it RAP, and I'd still listen
    to it :)

Thanks for the recommendations, Rick!! Save me some time and money
figuring out which ones to pick up. I just took a shot not knowing which
one to pick up, but I've heard 'em on the radio for a few years and they
always grooved. I'll be getting those extremely soon :)

Something I don't know is about the availability of those books, since I
bought the I&W and Awake books about two years ago (any japanese jammer

I have the I&W and Awake books from both Shinko Music and Warner Bros., so
I must say that the WB ones are DEFINITELY more accurate.

As for these japanese books being out-of-print, that's why I mentioned
japanese jammers because, like I said, I bought them for like 2 years ago.
And as for they being available domestically (in U.S.) I really don't know,
because I live in Brazil and ordered them from a japanese import book store
(I waited 6 months to get it).

Anyone looking for drum transcriptions should check those out (in import
book stores, maybe?), as they're the only books that really transcribed
whole band scores for the 3 LPs (I&W, Awake and WDADU). And maybe for ACOS,
    who knows?

    Later!

I tried to special order I&W about a year ago, but it was out of print. I
did get one, from a person with connections. Awake was no problem to find.

    Hello Jammer-dudez and dudettes -

This is in response to the Jammer asking about where to start with Fates
Warning. Several jams back, I posted that one should start with "Chasing
Time", IMO. Back then, I posted a big long explanation as to why. I can't
remember (or feel like retyping) everything I said, so I'll try to summarize.
Fates has changed their style fairly radically over the years, and "Chasing
Time" is a good compilation of old and new stuff. It's also not just a
"Greatest Hits" either; it's got their biggest "hits" along with a good
collection of "sleeper" favorites. Also, I think that the disc does a decent
job of capturing the general sound of a particular album or era. In
conclusion, ALL CD's are required listening and are MUST-OWN's, but starting
with "Chasing Time" can help you prioritize. 'Kay?

Now then, I've head the opportunity to get some great new CD's over the past
few days. Included in this is the new Flotsam ("High") and the new Bruce
Dickinson ("Accident Of Birth"). A while ago, someone hit the nail on the
head with a Flots review saying that it was heavier than their more recent
material, but although it's very good, not as good as "Cuatro" or "Drift".

As for Mr. Dickinson... HOLY SHIT!!!! This album knocked me on my arse! I
liked "Balls To Picasso" quite a bit, and didn't really care for "Skunkworks"
that much, so when I heard that this was his "BEST STUFF SINCE MAIDEN", I
took it with a grain of salt. But, after one listen, I must agree with this
assessment. Adrian Smith backs him up with some killer guitar playing on
this one. And, surprisingly, it's HEAVY as shit! I love this one - highly
    recommended!!!

'Nuff for now, kidz. Laterz.... Matt T.

Now Playing: B. Dickinson "Accident Of Birth" (Of course!)

Hey, folx, you up for a challenge? I've got some visual music for
    ya.

This is a song I hear on the contemporary station quite a bit and I
really dig the song. It pretty "groovy." Anyway, I know not the
number to call the DJ and ask the name of the song and I wanna find
out who it is. The song I'd say was written in the late 70s/early
80s and starts out with a sax part that goes something like...

    (^=hammer on) (/ = Bend) (\ = release)
This is from memory so it may not be precise...

           G G
        F# F# F# F#
      E D E^F#^E E D
    B B A/B \A/B\A\B \A/B G#

And then it repeats. I never catch the words, but it's a groovy
song. I remember a part that goes something like "Sad song.... Keep
holding on..." Someone at work said they thought it was a movie
theme and was "(Something) Street)" If someone let me know who the
artist and the name of the song gets a Twinkie.

This has been buging me for days, since this is the first song I EVER
remember hearing and it brings back kewl memories. :)

A new update is up on the page at http://www.goodnet.com/~durnik.

Virtual Songs ships, as of tomorrow (basically). The liners are
in. I didn't get my orders of jewelcases yet, so I went down to Costco and
bought some to tide me over and at least get shit started. They weren't
quite as cheap, but hey... I wanna see reviews _now_. :)

King's X "Acoustic Spirits" master preparation is underway. Due to
the idiosyncrasies of hard drive space, KX will ship in roughly mid July,
followed by E2E in early August. While preparing the master I found that I
have a lot more than this to offer... see the update for details. Here's
    the likely preliminary tracklisting.

            (acoustic soundboard performance)
            Shot of Love
            It's Love
            Summerland
Everybody Knows a Little Bit of Something
            Goldilox
            Over My Head
The Difference (In The Garden of St. Anne's on the Hill)
I'll Never Get Tired Of You (Mike & Melissa's wedding song!)
We Are Finding Who We Are
            The Difference (alternate/extra acoustic performance)
[Ear Candy bonus tracks, to be determined]

This single CD is already open to orders. Domestic orders just
send the order along, international customers please feel free to reserve
first and then send the order along. Print run will be 100 to 150 discs.

This one's gonna be _good_. :)

Oh yes, all the DT collectibles I had for sale are GONE. Gondo.
History. That was fast. Uncovered sold in three minutes. That's gotta be
some kind of record. The instructional videos are already en route to
their future owners, and the others are to follow shortly.

More PT and DW discs go out this weekend.

    Heya all...

Heh...I get to see Megadeth...TWICE this week... >:D

Sorry, had to rub that in. ANYWAYS,

I was perusin' through the mags at my local grocery store, and the new
(?) August edition of Metal Edge was about the only thing with the word
"Metal" written on it. BTW, why do they release an August issue two
months before August? Back to story: It had Marilyn Manson on the
cover, and I'm really not the biggest fan of his music or for anything he
stands for (except that free speech thingy), but I flipped through it
anyh00. The first page I happened to open the mag up to had photos of a
Metallica party with those guys from Anthrax and COC and this skanky
belly-dancer. It was nice to see the Anthrax crew in some new photos, I
thought some music exec might have sent a covert op. team to assassinate
another thrash band that hit it big in the 80s....but the kicker was near
    the end of the mag.

    Here it is...

..a BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO OF MIKE PORTNOY with Eric Singer. He, being
Portnoy, had a quoted answer to the question, "What's the best and worst
    movie you ever saw?"

"Best: Pink Floyd The Wall, This is Spinal Tap, and anything by Woody
Allen, Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch, Martin Scorsese and Alfred
    Hitchcock.

Worst: seven out of 10 Hollywood films. I'm a big indie film fan."

And for you 'Thrax fans out there, the new album's entitled Volume 8 and
due out October. Of course, you prolly already knew that tidbit. ;)

For some odd reason, Silverchair's name kept popping up around this mag?
WTF? They're about as metal as Sherinian is gay!!! They DON'T belong in
a metal mag! But that's just my opinion. :) Don't start a "what is
metal to one person..." thread, just don't...PLEASE!

The new Flotsam and Jetsam kicks ass. I bought A Pleasant Shade of Gray
(I'm gonna pay you back as soon as I get my paycheck Vince, don't worry!
I still have to land a job!) and I haven't really given it a thorough
listen to it yet, but it seems like this reallllllly sombre song with
lulled tones, and rare moments of spontinaity and excitement here and
there. I'll listen to the whole thing tonight 'n then slap my
    approval/disproval on it. :)

HOly shit! You can tell I don't subscribe to any magazines. On the back
of this Metal Edge is this KICK ASS full page ad for Pearl drums...with
NICK MENZA!!! WOO!!! That's a keeper...

Is there a telnet address for any dt fan servers? I know 'bout the IRC,
but I'm sorta "without provider" at the moment, if ya know what I mean.
(My school only provides email and telnet for free).

Bought the new Flotsam CD today. WOW!! This sucker rocks so hard. Man,
to me this CD sounds like a cross between Sacred Reich on "Independent",
Metallica's "Master of Puppets", and Pantera's "Cowboy's from Hell". There
are some neat production things like the twin acoustics in the far channels
on one of the earlier tracks, and the heavy sound is very dense. The
funniest part of the whole thing is that the names of the songs on the back
are written in fonts of other metal band logos. ;) For example, "Final
Step" is written in Iron Maiden font, "High-Noon" looks like the Misfits,
"Your Hands" looks like Van Halen, "Hallucinational" is in slayer font,
song 11 is just a symbol of a fork-man running (weird drawing :), but the
one that takes the cake is the font for "Monster". Yup, /MetallicA\ font.
    ;)~
Overall, this is a great thrasher CD, and it makes me feel proud for the
Phoenix metal scene, which spawned F&J.
Speaking of Phoenix metal, I bought my tickets for the "Vic and the
Rattleheads" show at the Electric Ball(sack)room next Tuesday!! Megadeth
twice in one week. Friedman's gonna be so close I can like hi-5 the dude
while he's playin' ;) Phoenix metal rocks. I mean, there's Megadeth,
Sacred Reich (every thursday at the Mason Jar :))) ), F&J, Sepultura
(relocated from Brazil), Jason Newsted, George Lynch, Gary Hoey (lives in
Lake Havasu City, AZ), Alice Cooper, hmm, I know there are more, but I
can't think of any more off hand.
Oh yeah, bought the new G3 live video today too. GET IT!!! If you're not
into the Satch/Vai/Johnson type of stuff, at least buy it as an
    instructional tape :)

    Jam on, jammerz,

Peace and love, and good happiness stuff, ~Vince
