My whole concern about it being a bad move is that Marillion isn't that popular here in the US to justify a large scale tour. I think for them to play a prog festival would be better for them. That way they are more likely to make money because they would headline the show. People would be more likely to travel long distances to see Marillion and at the same time see other prog bands play than to travel a long distance and see one band play. If they played gigs in their own tour in a distance that would be too far for me to travel, then I wouldn't go. But if they played in Progfest or in a ProgDay, then I would consider taking a plane ride to see them plus I'd be able to see other bands too. I would get more "bang for my buck." I hope that makes sense.

I know that all the bands got paid for playing at last year's ProgDay including most band's hotel expenses. Sure, hauling all their equipment for one gig would be a hassle.

Ok, I take that part back about "hard effort."

Since I joined the jam a couple years back, I've been turned on to many different prog-metal bands. Now, it seems like the discussion about nil. Ok, I really missed Mike Backof's reviews (where is this guy anyways?). I look forward to reviews by Neil or Mape. Occasionally, I feel like unsubbing because there is too much chit-chat and not enough music discussion. It's like I no longer rely on the jam for discovering new music. Anyways, for those of you that want to hear more music discussion, check out this cool WWW message board, Perpetual Motion.

    http://www.mindcage.com/contents.html

BTW, if y'all like to chit-chat, the DT irc server is the place to be. irc.dreamt.org I like to chit-chat too, but at this place.

    Later,

    Hello, Jammers...

I'm sure you all saw the original posts that Subtlerage and I put forth, regarding the band "Eternity-X". New developments have occured that have forced us to rethink our actions.

The maintainer of the original webpage (Andrew Miller, aka "Subtlerage") and the poster of the original USENET message (Matthew Schnoor, aka "M-Bone") have taken down the pages and would like the subject to be closed.

    (page at http://www.subtlerage.com/eternity-x/ )

Basically, we felt it was not worth our time to pursue our differences with Keith Sudano of Eternity-X in a public forum. After a while, it became clear to both of us that our efforts, while not vengeful or emotionally driven, might be construed as such by dragging our private discussions with Keith into the public light.

While Keith did indeed make insulting statements to both of us, we both decided that the rest of the world didn't need to be bombarded with them. As such, Matthew Schnoor apologizes for the original USENET posting and asks for the topic to be dropped from discussion. Andrew Miller has removed the original E-mail messages with Keith from this webpage.

In case you're curious, Keith has not yet apologized for his words, but he has attempted to reconcile the situation. We did not feel that it would be polite or proper to continue a discussion that he also wanted to bring to a close.

Also, various people on the net have offered their advice to us, and convinced us that not everybody was interested in hearing about this subject. So, to bring this to a close quickly, we ask that you not hold offense against Keith Sudano for anything you may have heard about him on USENET or for any words of his that you may have read on this page at one time.

(In other words, quit E-mailing the guy. And D-Man, no more nasty-grams in his webpage guestbook. :)

In conclusion, we don't think it's worth our time to pursue this. We do recommend that you give Eternity-X a fair chance as a progressive metal band... go to their page and find out what they sound like.

    Thanks for your understanding.

In fact, Mustaine's voice is good on that bootleg that you sent me. You have to check "Punishment is Due" to see what I'm talking about when I say bad vocals. :-) But this CD has really good material there.

And I love every single letter that Mustaine says about Metallica (my preferred band): "Ten years of bullshit between Megadeth and Metallica is over". I really love that. And that CD also has the very first live performance of "Angry Again". But Mustaine's vocals are just... ok there.

    See you later, Roger...

Hey Jammers, I was just wondering if Marillion is a band under the Magna Carta label. And how many albums they have actually released. I'm so strict on making RUSH and DT the almost only played music in my CD deck, so needless to say, opening up to new PROG music is hard. Is this band really good? Not, Hell yeah responses, I mean, lyrics/vocals/music...etc?

Also, is there stuff easy to find in stores?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks Jammers,

Whoa...just came back from the "Vic 'n the Rattleheads" gig...that band has a future, lemme tell you!

Well, for all you uninformed types, the presumed band name was just a "cover up" for Megadeth, and they came out in prime condition.

They opened the show with Holy Wars...the Punishment Due, then went into Hangar 18, and one of Mustaine's tubes blew. So there we were, a whole fuck-load of Deth fans waiting for the techs to get everything in order (i.e., steal one of Friedman's power amps and throw it in Mustaine's rack). They played like 5 or so songs off of the new album, to be released next Tuesday...including Trust and Fight for Freedom. Holy shit, if it's one band that's stuck to thier guns as a heavy metal thrash band, it's Megadeth. All the new shit has a little bit of this and that from thier previous albums, and then some.

It all fuckin' rocked, 'cept for when that tube blew. :) Actually, I think that's the first time I've seen Friedman--er, Guitar Rattlehead--perform in a non-leather outfit. He also had his hair cut a _little_ bit to make it more managable (I'm presuming) and I'm sorry, but if any other ytsejammer was there last night, I thought Ellefson looked like Bill Nye the Science Guy with that new hair cut of his, albeit a Bill Nye that could kick your ass and throw his entire amplifier setup at you with one arm, but I saw a resembilance. He was wearing all black: black jeans, black t-shirt (short sleeved, with the "sleeves" rolled up a little), and his 5 string bass was jet black. Heh, you knew what kind of music this band was playing just by the way they looked. Menza's drumset took up about ALL of the fucking stage...kinda hilarious. Mustaine knows how to pump an audience, and added a little patriotism to the crowd before he broke into Fight for Freedom.

They, of course, came out for an encore of Peace Sells...But Who's Buying, Anarchy in the UK, and Paranoid. This concert kicked fuckin' ass all over the place, 'n I didn't even go deaf this time :). Expect the new album to be just the adrenaline shot in the ass that the metal genre of music needs about now. It was pretty cool to see Friedman playin' with a new toy...

WOW!! Vic 'n the Rattleheads kicked some serious ass tonight!!! The new songs are very heavy, very melodic...basically the band has honed all the best from the last three albums and put it onto Cryptic Writings. Aggressive downpicked rhythms, heavy distortion, fast double bass, groove, soaring vocals, and one MONSTER melody/harmony guitar duet that blew my ass away!! I think it was in "Use the Man", but I could be mistaken. Megadeth proved to be thrash with style, and they're metal that won't quit. I really think this album could bring metal, REAL METAL, into the mainstream. Really. It's THAT good! Okay, as for the new songs, they played "Use the Man", "Trust", "FFF", one other that sounds a lot like "Angry Again", and one other song that'll have you singing "Back to the Front!!" ;)~ Use the Man starts off like "A Toute Le Monde" and ends like Holy Wars and Peace sells (fast, heavy, double bass, etc. Also similiar to "One"). "Trust" we both know and love, and "FFF" is a very short (2:30?) speed metal song reminiscient of Motorbreath by Metallica (the main riff for FFF can be heard on the "Evolver" vid I think I sent ya.) We got there about an hour before the doors opened, but the side door was open, and we heard some noise coming from inside. Drum noise :) We looked inside, and we could see part of the stage. On it was Nick and Marty doing sound check. It was then that it hit me that I was actually seeing MEGADETH!!!! We heard them do an entire new song we'd never heard before during this sound check, and the main riff to the song is AWESOME!! Like Angry Again. I wish Dave would've said what the name was! Oh well, I'm sure you'll hear it Friday on the radio (the broadcast of the Mesa amp show ;) During soundcheck, they kept trying the opening to "Trust", but Nick couldn't hit it just right with the sequenced keyboard part. he couldn't keep time with it because it was all whole notes and such. Out of about 4 or 5 tries, he hit it once at soundcheck. As a result, when they played the song live, the band did the opening effects just on the guitars. Megadeth opened the show with Holy Wars and then went right into Hangar 18. About a minute before the end of Hangar 18, Dave's guitar went out. I mean OUT. He mouthed the word "Fuck" quite angrily and stormed off stage. The rest of the band carried on the song without him (about 3 times heavier sounding without the lead guitar part :). Anyways, the band then took an _extended_ break of about 15 minutes or so. After 5 minutes or so, Nick greeted the crowd, saying the band was having technical difficulties, and to bear with 'em, they'd "fucking rock the place" in just a few minutes. Dave apparently blew a tube in his power amp. Marty was using 4 of the Crate Blue Voodoo amp heads in his chain, so they took one of those heads out of Marty's rig and put it in Dave's rig. In minutes they were back, rockin' the house. Dave greeted the crowd again, saying, "Sorry about that. If you're angry about the wait, just think about how PISSED I AM!!!" ;)~ Dave had a little speech right before they played "FFF". It went something like this: "We've toured all over the world, and with the success we've had, we could live anywhere we want to. BUT we choose to live here in Phoenix, Arizona, the greatest city in the greatest country in the world. Remember, our country is built on the blood of our ancestors, and we must always honor that. Our country is NOT built on cock-sucking muther fuckers like that Timothy McVeigh dork. If he was here right now, I'd kick the shit out of that son of a bitch!! Stand up for what you believe in and FIGHT FOR FREEDOM!!!!" It was something like that. I think my word choice is pretty similiar, if not right on with what Dave actually said, too.

Here's the songs they played, in no specific order:

Skin O my Teeth Symphony of Destruction Hangar 18 Holy Wars (opened the show with this :) Angry Again Reckoning Day Trust Fight for Freedom (FFF) Use the Man 2 other new songs (real guud muthaz :) Train of Consequences A Toute Le Monde Foreclosure of a Dream

Encore: Peace Sells... Anarchy in the UK Paranoid

    Dave ended with this:

"You have been great! We have been 'Vic and the Rattleheads'!!"

    ;)~

I *finally* heard the new Queensryche album. It sucks. Doesn't sound like QR at all. This morning I put Promised Land into the player and it rocks. Even Empire, which was extremely commercial, was a lot better. This one sounds like QR covering STP or something. Just one more band that changed to this boring alternative crap style.

Well, ok. Better reply via mail, this topic is too old for the jam.
