I've been going to my local Tower Records for 5 years now . . . but never
venturing up to the third floor, because I thought it was all jazz. When
a friend dragged me up there last week, I was totally amazed to find a
great indie section with loads of obscure stuff I'd been longing for!

So, I walked out with Beware of Darkness by Spock's Beard, and
A Pleasant Shade of Grey by The Spice Girls. I'll be back for more soon.
The Spock's Beard album is one of the best things I've ever heard.

Yes, and a truly wonderful concert it was, too . . . despite the fact
that Scotland had lost 2-1 to Sweden only an hour previously! (That should
    have been a penalty.) ;-)

Well, Megadeth was real cool. Nice setlist. Nice huge hiatus in the middle of the show too. :)

Uncle Dave and Vince LuPone... couldn't find ya to get your PT and DW CDs to you, which I had at the show. Too late now, I'm shipping them off to the next people on the list. Nyah nyah. :)

Anybody the Belgian area wanting to buy this album ? I can not be enthousiastic about it - I bought after hearing one song, can't remember the name... I am almost willing to give it away like that...

Cannot understand people find this so excellent... Just 2 songs on it... These guys listened very well to some Helloween stuff - which is IMHO a lot better than this...

With regard to that mystery video by Faith No More on the MTV count-down, i would verture to guess it was Epic off the album The Real Thing since this song was played in "heavy" rotation on MTV and was out "about 5 years ago." If it contains images of hands with eyes in the palms squirting green and orange paint and a fish gasping for oxygen at the end, then this is the video/song you seek...otherwise:

the only other Faith videos that got any kind of repeated play were Midlife Crisis from the Angel Dust album (most memorable scene in video was a man being drawn and quartered by horses) or Easy, the Lionel Richie remake from the Songs To Make Love To EP which shows the band lounging around an apartment.

    Hi all

A guy that I work with and with whom I often swap CDs brought me something yesterday that I think I ought to share with you.

The album is called 'Shadow Of The Moon' and is by Blackmore's Night (a.k.a. Ritchie Blackmore). Imagine, if you can, an album of essentially acoustic music that sounds like the following got put through a blender: Loreena McKennit, Sally Oldfield, Enya (but not as sickly and sticky), Jethro Tull (Ian Anderson makes a guest appearance), Gryphon and Ulver with a definite medieval touch. You may think I'm promising too much, but give this album a listen and you'll find I'm telling the truth. Most certainly not prog, not rock, and not even new age, just a very light, enjoyable album that is well played and produced. I think this is an album that will be added to my collection very soon. When I listen to this album, I get an almost irresistable urge to nail an inflated pig's bladder to the end of a stick, wave my handkerchief in the air, drink real air and sing with my finger in my ear (explanations of all this can be provided if required). The only weak point of the album is the track "Writing On The Wall", which is a sort of disco rip-off version of something by the late Mr. Tchaikovsky.

I see that the new album 'Creature' by the Canadian band Moist is out. Do any of you moose-trapping jammers have any comments on it? I think it's now on release in Europe.

Has anybody out there had experience with the 'free personal web site' offer from Geocities? How much space do you get? Are there any catches (mail box being filled with advertizing junk)? Reply to me personally.

Does anyone know what Mustaine's "Spider" Technique is? He mentioned it in an article once and I'm pretty sure I saw him do it live a few times, but I'd like to know what it involves. It almost looked like his fingers moved up and down the neck like a spider would walk...

PS - to imitate his singing style, just snarl and sing out of the left side of your mouth...it rules!

I'd be willing to bet that the song was Epic. The way you could figure it out is if it ends with a segue to a piano playing the melody. I forget the album title at the moment, but it's the one with the fire on it.

If he was here right now, I'd kick the shit out of >that son of a bitch!! Stand up for what you believe in and FIGHT FOR >FREEDOM!!!!" >

Does anyone see the warped logic here? I think Tim Mc Veigh *was* standing up for what he believed in. And I think what he did, in his mind, and in others, was meant to *be* a fight for freedom. I don't justify his actions, and I think these militia characters are nuts, but Dave should remember that our country *was* built on cock-sucking motherfuckers like that. It's hard to have a revolution without attacking the powers that be. I guess 'ol Dave would been a redcoat, because the "americans" (ha ha) were nothing more than terrorists. But the victors write history...and one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

Wow...aren't formal apologies nice? I've had the misfortune of seeing several apologies come out of people I thought I'd never see back down. (and not just here, but in other places I hang out) Well, I guess I'm going to pretend that this was one of the 'jams I deleted before reading, because I feel this guy doesn't really deserve an apology, nor does he deserve to be left alone.

This is like saying "Well, sure the politician took the bribe, but that's between him and the FBI mole who got the bribe on tape!" I'm sorry, but *no*. The music scene is very public and very political (look who's on the top of the charts and think of why they're there) and, therefore, if someone is going to speak on behalf of the band, they should think about every single word they say (or type) before spewing it out. Once it's out, it's public domain, and if the whole band gets sunk because of the big mouth of one guy, then maybe they should replace they guy. It's that simple.

So go ahead, bug Eternity-X, bug their record company, and bug your friends about them. If they're not equipped to handle the public life, then maybe they should go back into the garage.

Not sure if this has been discussed, or even mentioned...

Just noticed the other day that the new drummer for Genesis is Nick D'Virgilio, who is mentioned as the drummer for Spock's Beard. I'm not familiar w/ Spock's Beard (yet) other than the positive plugs they get here.

So, I'm wondering--what does this mean for the future of Spock's Beard? Is this going to be another band (like echolyn) that as soon as I get into them because of your reviews, they'll dissolve? Certainly hope not.

    Thanks, pg

No. Nick did the Genesis thing as a "studio-only" type situation. Genesis has a different drummer for touring, and Nick is still very much a part of Spock's. (Thank Ged for it, too. :)

Which reminds me, I'm still looking for Spock's bootlegs. Someone here's gotta have something. I have plenty to trade.

Oh, yeah, you can tell if that video is "Epic" if there's that 10-bar piano phrase in Latin at the end, and something about molten flesh.

Hello, everyone! I've been wondering for a few weeks about the little questionnaire sheet that was packaged inside the Awake CD when I bought it. This was the week that it came out, BTW. One of the questions (not really a question, per se) was to rate the songs on Awake in order of preference. I wasn't on the 'jam when Awake came out, so I hope this hasn't been discussed already. Did DT take the results of this survey thingie and use it to help determine the setlist for the ensuing tour? Although the order of my preference of songs on Awake has changed since that time, back then the songs I listed first just happened to be the ones they played at most Awake dates. Coincidence? Could some valiant, info-bearing 'jammer help me out on this one, because I'm curious.

Take care, everyone, Mark Peters swifty@auburn.net

There've been a lot of FNM questions on the 'jam in the past couple days, and since FNM is one of my favorite bands, hopefully I can answer them! The album order is: Introduce Yourself, The Real Thing, Angel Dust, Easy (Sort of a single/EP), King for a day, and Album of the Year. The songs that made them popular (probably the ones you've seen on MTV) are 'Epic' and 'Falling to Pieces', both on The Real Thing CD.

    >it rocks. Even Empire, which was extremely commercial, was a lot >better. This one sounds like QR covering STP or something. Just one >more band that changed to this boring alternative crap style.

Just one more closed-minded idiot. First of all, if you want to call the new QR "alternative" then fine. But it sure as hell doesn't sound like STP or any other alternative band I've heard, and it's not crap. I too think it's QR's worst album, but I listen to it regularly, and still think it's a pretty good album, there are some really good songs on it. IMO it blows away stuff like, oh... megadeth.

BTW, I thought it sucked the first time I heard it too, but this album grew on me after I decided to listen to it a few times with an open mind. If you're capable of giving it a chance to grow on you, and you still think it sucks, then fine, but don't insult those of us who don't listen exclusively to songs that are 10-minutes long, in odd time signatures, 50% instrumental, with keyboards.
