    Hey all!
I purchased Neil Pearts' "A work in progress" today. I have only
watched the first tape and I feel like I have been catapulted about a
year in my education on drums. Neil is a master and if you want to
learn more about stuff like: fills, spontaneous playing and every
drummers' toughest chore.. learning odd time, get this tape!!
It is quite pricy however, I managed to get it 20% off. I paid
around 50 bucks for it. It is well worth the money!! A truly
educational video. I am sure that it is in Mike Portnoy's video
collection, and I am sure that he watches it all the time. He is a huge
Rush fan. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

being re-issued as well. These albums were done in DDD format and sound
extremely polished. I mean, how much better will a remastered version
    be?

The answer to this is simply $$$$$$!!! The old record company, Polygram
owns the rights to all of the old Rush stuff (everything from "A show of
hands" back) and wants to make some more dough off of the Rush fans of
today. I bet that Atlantic is really pissed about this, but I am almost
positive that they will make more $$ off the live album that I am pretty
sure will be coming out this fall (from the surprise live show that was
put on in Toronto just before Rush's holiday break)
So, in closing the remasters will equal nothing but good ol'
    fashioned green! $$$! Lata, J

    Welcome to the Jam!
That first attack chastisement seems to be the initiation around
here, aside from the first viewing of the notorious "Ivory Gate of

I just recently purchased the Re-master version of Power Windows. Reason
being is that I wore out my original copy.....believe it or not, CD's
can be worn down! Anyway, to be honest, there really is no difference
in the music. The Re-master just seems to play a little louder, none of
the musical texture seems to stick out any more than it did on my
    original copy.

Well, here's another newbie (from the same address no less!) posting his
first thing to the jam. Have to admit, you just gotta love the jam. Hear
more about great bands (Rush, FW, Savatage, RTM, the list goes on) than
you could shake a three year old at.

Now for a question that may have been asked already. No, it's not about
the new DT album. At the beginning of their latest tour, I heard an
interview with Alex Lifeson about a new live album with a bunch of
previously unreleased tracks on it. Has anyone heard about when it will
be released? I am Jonesing for this album SOOOOOOOOOOOO bad (my
apologies to all the Jonses out there). To hear songs that have been
sitting on the shelf, unheard by those of us who can merely bask in the
glow of their greatness (okay, I'm overdoing it, but hey, someone has
to), I shudder with anticipation at the thought.

One last babble . . .does anyone know how to get the official Rush
newletter? You know the one . . . The National Midnight Star. Anyway, I
figure I've babbled (and bored) you enough.

Here's a doozy of a triple bill for ya . . . DT, FW, and Rush. Any
    comments?

Remember, All the world's indeed a stage!

    Long live prog music!!!!

I'm sorry I cannot believe that because two people have different views on
music, that they cannot get along. Most of my friends listen to either
alternative or rap. Because someone disagrees with you about rap is no
reason to flame him. I would not have many friends if that was the case.

Eh, I'll go ahead and post this here since some others might be
interested, too. Anyway, form what I can remember, the main stage
    went something like this:
    Power Man 5000
    Machine Head
    Fear Factory
    Type O Negative
    Pantera
    Ozzy
    Sabbath

All the bands on the side stage played two short sets, so if you miss
one for a main stage show, you might be able to catch whoever again.
The side stage also started before the main stage. The main and side
stage were staggered some, but some overlap did happen. Anyway,
Downset was the last side stage act I know. I caught them twice.
Drain STH played sort of early on. If I can remember all the side
stage acts, I might be able to get an order down. I'll have to get
back on that one. Also, I don't know if they're keeping the same
order for the side stage at each show anyway. I was there mostly for
the mainstage acts (though you shouldn't miss the side stage) anyway,
since I was more familiar with them. Marilyn Manson didn't play St.
Louis, so I have no idea where they'll be on the bill for the shows
    they do.
One thing about Ozzy's set. I can't remember what song it was in,
but I swear I heard the band do one of the riffs from Poweslave when
they were just jamming in the middle of a song. anybody know if I'm
    right?

If I didn't have class I could work full-time. But to present a glaring contradiction in your "no class = casual swearing in public forums" example, attending lectures rarely inhibits me from swearing aloud. Usually I time it so that in-between slides, during that precious quarter-second when the entire room is pitch black, I cup my hands and blast a real good one up to the ceiling so that no one can pinpoint the source of the chaos.

Yes, it's been out for a while now. It's a good album of course (I mean, anything from Moist would have to be good, right?). Not as good as Silver, though, but in the same vein.

I think it was a result of no other band wanting to commit to opening for them. Its pretty slim pickins out there this summer. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was one of the lucky few to be invited to attend the recent Queensryche Secret Desert show, that was held about 55 miles north of Socorro, New Mexico (yes, right in the middle of nowhere) on the site of the worlds largest radio telescope array, where we snoop on ET's. In the interview prior to the show, Chris DeGarmo was asked about possible supporting acts for the upcoming tour, and he replied that local bands would be opening the shows because QR felt that it was "time to give something back" - give some young bands a break, as QR were the "unknowns" at one time. I really doubt that there was a lack of more established acts wanting to get on the bill with QR.

BTW, the show rocked! It was broadcast on 150 FM stations across the country, but the radio audience only heard the first hour of the show. After that QR played for another 1 1/2 hours! The new HitNF stuff sounded great live - it was cool to see DeGarmo playing slide guitar and using the talk box. Wilton was awesome. It was great to hear the sounds coming from discrete speaker cabinets, and not all blended into a PA system, so we could tell *exactly* who was playing what! All in all, it was an experience that I will never forget! :)
