Hey Jammers, just wanted to let you all in on my journey to RUSH today.
What can I say, this show was better than the one back in October.
Except for the fact that they dropped my ALL TIME favorite RUSH song
(SUBDIVISIONS) from their setlist! Damn was I pissed. Aside from that,
DAMN GOOD SHOW. And, the boys looked a little tired, but sounded great
nonetheless. The following is the entire setlist from the show, I am
posting it in the hope that people who still yet have to attend a RUSH
show during this second leg will benefit from it. Here it goes:

RUSH -- Test For Echo Tour -- 1997/Second Leg Tour

June 17, 1997 Pine Knob Music Theater Clarkston, Michigan

    1) Dreamline
    2) Limelight
    3) Stick It Out
    4) Driven
    5) Half The World
    6) Red Barchetta
    7) Animate
    8) Limbo ------ "Mosh Good" was not heard, possibly ommitted
    9) The Trees
    10) Virtuality
    11) Nobody's Hero
    12) Closer To The Heart ---- Featuring ending jam IDENTICAL to
the ending on A Show Of Hands
    13) 2112 ---- Part III (Discovery) lengthened in beginning; The
song overall was played at a
                                           slower tempo, thus making it
hit the 21:12 mark. Also, my
                                           musician friend told me they
were playing at a louder sound
                                           (or something, I forget)
                                           probably to compensate for the
                                           high singing Geddy can't hit
                                           any longer.

--BREAK-- (Geddy states that they will return after receiving some
psychiatric help/attention; Never the same message at any
show. At the October 25, 1996 show, Geddy states that they
will be back after taking some Geritol.)

    14) Test For Echo
    15) Freewill
    16) Red Sector A
    17) Roll The Bones
    18) Resist
    19) Leave That Thing Alone!
    20) Drum Solo --- GOD LIKE......lasting for a little over 8 minutes
    21) Natural Science --- After suspecting that some lyrics were missing
while attending the October 25, 1996 show, my
hunch was justified. After paying closer
attention while singing along, I noticed that
the part "Art as expression, not as market
                                campaigns, will still capture our imaginations;
Given the same state of integrity, it will
surely help us along." was indeed ommitted from
the performance. Kind of makes me wonder
why this happened twice and probably throughout
the entire tour. Moral of the story, it
really is cool to have ALL the songs being
played memorized to a TEE. =)
    22) Force 10
    23) The Spirit of the Radio --- Neil Peart SMILED! Whoa! And even made
                                        kissey faces into the camera..........
                                        whoa, Mr. Intensity displayed emotion...
    24) Tom Sawyer

    -END-

    25 - Encore) YYZ --> Cygnus X-1 Teaser
Something cool happened here....Neil Peart showed
                            more cool stuff......he smiled A LOT...especially
when Alex and Geddy stood in front of him jamming
away! And, ready for this.........not only did
he smile at them, but he started whipping out his
tongue in a very, well, provocative way....you know,
that man really amazes me. So damn serious through
the ENTIRE set, but he played around near the end.
Wow, Neil could quite possibly be a fun guy! Wonders
                            never cease...........

    *Note*
During the encore, someone, perhaps a stage hand, was playing with
a couple of dinosaurs behind some speakers. Then, the camera zoomed
onto them showing them fighting =]
Then, there were 3 little plastic dinosaurs on the stage and upon
zooming onto them, there was a tiny sign in the T-Rex's hand saying,
"See, we aren't the only three dinosaurs on the stage."
Awesome humor I tell you! =]

Well, there you have it. My take on the show. I hope someone gets a use
out of this. If you have any similar takes on the show like those I have
posted here, feel free to let me know how similar my experience was to yours.

    Take care Jammers,

    Jeff E.

    First I said:
    > Vocalist Andre Matos' voice may require some

    > Kiske's ever been.

    Then...

    >I realy don't think so........basically becouse of two main things
    >1) Kiske never uses falsetto and Matos uses it a lot or better too often
    >(he cannot even reach an high C and so e sings like a castrato)
    >2) Kiske shows one of the greatest modulation ever while Matos' voice is
    >flat as a surf table

Now this much I can appreciate. Some minor snippets of it can be even
labeled as intelligent discussion. Yet something in this post gives me the
impression that I have possibly seen Helloween on stage when Davide's
primary source of nutrition was baby's milk mixture. And yes, I know
Helloween's not that old a band.

    >Try to sing the keeper of the seven keys and carry on and you'll see the

Now did you have to do this? Exactly what was it in my voiced opinion that
made you want to jump on my case? Would you explain to me what justifies
your hostility towards me? And no, it's written A-HA. Thank you, I'm off
to listen to some more A-HA while I'll unsubscribe.

Davide, for all I care you can go and have a pleasant coitus with yourself.

    Hi all

the last jams have taken their toll on my befuddled mind and given rise to some
    questions.

    1. What is all this talk about randy snatches? Is this a sex list, or what?

    2. What the fuck are Alanis fans doing listening to Dream Theater anyway?

    3. Does anybody have a recipe for spiced girls? Anything that involves covering
erogenous zones with pepper and then sneezing it off will be tried.

    4. Anybody see that film "The Dead Guitarists' Society"? I believe Dream Theater
sampled it on their last album (gather ye plectrums while ye may).

Returning to reality, has anybody else out there noticed that their musical
requirements can vary greatly from day to day? A few days ago I brought only
'prog' CDs to work (Dream Theater, Lemur Voice, Angra, Vauxdvihl etc.), and
yesterday my choice fell on groups like Helmet, Nirvana, Silverchair, Kyuss,
Handsome, Kerbdog etc. It was like I'd been eating too much rich, sticky,
fancy food, and needed something straight and simple to clear my palate
before moving on to the next course. Anybody else feel like this?

    stay safe and happy listening

True, but 'Surfing with the Alien' brought rock guitar instrumental music
back the top 40. A lot of ppl got into Satch who weren't guitarists. And
im not gonna start analyzing Satch's style, but his first EP was entirely
done w/ guitar (ie hitting the pickups w/ an allen wrench for drums, etc..
) and his style is quite unique... it definitely got me off my
    guitar-playing ass.

A comment... for some reason, Satch's playing on his most recent CD reminds
me of Miles Davis... not the notes, but the emotion behind it, and the way
it sounds so 'alive' and human...

And the quote of the day goes to:

I'm beginning to forget what DTC means...

Do The Cherries? Drive The Chevy?

Please, discontinue the big ass arguments about who's the legendary
guitar player. If Satriani wasn't deserving of legendary status, then
WHY THE FUCK IS HE COMING UP IN EVERY POST AS A GROUND-BREAKING
GUITARIST comparible to so and so....

take it to private email, 'cuz I'm reelin' from the stupidity of it all.
It's all relative in this matter...I listen to Satch more than Vai 'cuz
his songs are more understandible, more powerful. I listen to Vai 'cuz
I'm amazed that a guitar could do that, and I listen to Rhoads 'cuz I'm
into that style of music, and he just happens to kick ass playin' it.
I'm not even gonna attempt to rate these guys, it's ludicrous. And why
hasn't Petrucci's name even popped up in this conversation, ESPECIALLY on
the Dream Theater mailing list, REALLY confuses me!

Are we suggesting we kill all the guitarists that are creative and
talented? They'll all be legends then! Won't they? But then we'd be
stuck with the likes of Bush and Smashing Pumpkins...

Hello all. Its been awhile since i last posted but I thought I'd come back
with a bang! GET THIS! I went to strawberries to look around for some cool
cd's and I was talking with the guy behind the counter. He was writing up
the upcoming release board. I asked him if he had run across any Dream
Theater release. He said he had. He had this paper which gave the release
dates of a ton of bands up until November. Well I'm very pleased to say that
Dream Theater's new album said july next to it. There wasn't a name of the
album. The guy told me and my friend to expect the album early august! THis
RULES!!! Just thought I'd share that with you all!
ROck on! PS. New Megadeth kicks so much shit out of Metallica. I don't
care what you think, when you hear this new deth as most of you have, you
must agree that "Alternica" sold out. Dave Mustaine has taken a little bit
of everything from megadeth's past and put it on the album. SOme thrash,
some dark groove, some stuff in a new direction. MEGADETH is where its at!

I apologize if I am a bit late with this reply. I didn't read that
particular post till this morning. This post was regarding the vocal
artistry of Michael Kiske and Andre Matos.
The gentleman who replied is obviously not a vocalist OR not one in
"the know" concerning vocals. This is certainly not a put down. I
wouldn't know the various nuances of composing a bossa nova percussion
piece. I am not a trained percussionist. I do know singing though.
What you said about the differens between Kiske and Matos, although
bearing some semblances of truth, are simpy erroneous.
You see, the male voice HAS TO have "falsetto", (if that is the term
you are used to), in it at all times. Yes even on the lowest notes of
the voice. It has to do with the vocal cords or,in reality, ligaments
and the way they work. One can not drag the "chest voice" up and expect
to achieve a brilliant, open tone. Although some may think that they are
doing this, if they have any resonance taking place and the tone is free
there IS falsetto blended into the tone. The GOD of blending registers
has to be James LaBrie. He mixes vocal textures and registers like Betty
Crocker mixes cake batter. The man is so well trained it's amazing!
Back to Kiske. He is a dramatic tenor possessing a larger instrument
than Matos who, himself is most liely a lyric tenor if not, a spinto.
These instruments are lighter in tone quality. Kiske has a robust
"manly" sound on the high notes which leads you to believe he is not
utlizing head tones but, in reality, he is. He is opening the naso
pharynx and allowing the high notes to resonate in that upper place.
That is about as technical as I want to get here. Matos is also
utilizing that place and he is blending the resonances of laryngo, oro
and naso pharynx although he possesses a lighter instrument so you feel
he is using unmixed falsetto. This is simply not the case. Fine examples
of vocalists who have their registers and resonances perfectly balnced
include James LaBrie, older Geoff Tate (or younger, dependng on how you
look at it), Ray Alder (no matter how you feel about him, you never hear
"the break" through the passagio on the way up the scale), Kiske, Andy
Franck from Ivanhoe. Wow, there aren't a lot of singers around today who
really have their technique down pat. It's a shame bcause I love great
singing and strive for it in myself.
If you would like to refute me and claim that so and so can pull up
their chest voice effortlesly to a D above tenor C blah-blah-blah I will
simply refer you to some literature and texts that further exemplifies
what I have tried to summarize and simplify here. So, I hope I've
    enlightened some and angered none.
    Yours in music,
    Denis J. Lanza

Ozzy, I forget which one right now though. All seemed amateur/slightly
    professional but decent quality.

Second, I picked up Rush's Retrospective II 1981-1987 this week and
what a great album. Lots of faves on this one. Anyone else get this???
    Any thoughts???

    Hello,
So I get home from work on Monday and decide to pick up the mail from
my old apartment. In the mail was my last bank statement, so I checked
to see if KTS charged me yet. They hadn't, but I saw that my check to
Mike Bahr ahd, so a thought of "cool maybe my discs will be here next
    weeek" went through my head.
So yesterday, I have a shitty day at work. I go to lunch and pick up
the new Megadeth (I'm wavering on saying this is good yet), then am
treated to an even worse afternoon at work (yeah, I know you don't care,
but i'm getting to my point). So I drive home thinking "I can't wait for
those Bahr discs to get here..."
So I walk in the front door of my house and from ten feet away, see a
package laying on the table in the foyer. I live with forty guys
(fraternity house, not a male brothel) so it could have been for anyone.
Nevertheless, my hopes are up. As I get closer, I see my name. I get
right up over it, grab hold, and feel the CDs inside. I rip it open,
barely noticing Mike and Melissa's return address and there are my WDATU
    and SFAM discs. REJOICE!!!!
Anyone who says Mike Bahr isn't prompt knows not of what he speaks. My
discs arrived five days after my check cleared. I call that pretty
freakin' prompt. So what if it takes some time for him to make the
discs. Anticipation is half the joy of receiving. And man was I feeling
joy. Finally, To Live Forever on CD, where I can access it at will. An
earlier version of ACOS so I can appreciate the current one even more.
All right, you've heard enough out of me. Oh wait, I forgot
    something.... MIKE RULES!
New Megadeth: okay, I heard all the rumors of Rust II and didn't
believe. Thank God I didn't. This is no such thing. The entire album,
with the exception of three songs, is Countdown II. That album is my
least favorite of Deth's (including Killing...), but this one is better
so far. Those three exceptions are all out thrash songs, unlike any Dave
has written to date. IMHO, the work with MD.45 had a good effect. But
some of the mid-tempo songs are too generic and weren't memorable at all
    after three listens.
Another thing: why did they dump their producer? I thought Youthanasia
was the best produced MD album ever; this is quite a step down. On my
home stereo, I can barely hear the leads, and the layering of sounds and
voices is muddy. And IMHO, this is not Marty's best soloing...
Un the upside: the lyrics are great. Many songs seem a lot more
personal than past albums. Trust has a great compositional structure to
it, as does Use the Man. The tempo and time changes are cool as hell. I
thought UtM was just going to be a slow, plodding song, then BAM! I got
a kick out of that. I don't know what else to say. Megadeth fans will
all buy it no matter what, but I think others should get a listen before
they buy. Sorry if I seem to be knocking the guys, but the album doesn't
do much for me... at least not yet.

So maybe Satriani is more popular than Stevie, but since when does popularity have anything to do with talent or skill?

oOo If a man could pass through Paradise in a dream, and have a flower presented to him as a pledge that his soul had really been there, and if he found that flower in his hand when he awoke - Aye, and what then? oOo Niklas
