hell, if this works, you could even see if some of the 'Jammers

Before this gets *too* out of hand, I should clear something up. DT is *not* touring with Eternity-X, nor are The Spice Girls opening for them. The reason that I said it is *because* of the controversy in the last few weeks... Nicole, you've been here long enough to know better than to believe me about something like that. :)

I got the attitude from your posts, that's the way that they came across to myself and to most of the people I have talked to about this. As for what you said, I was refering to what your posts implied. That was only an example, I'm talking about something more broad than just bands, I mean any opinions and not just music. And like I said, this isn't just about you, there are a lot of people on here that do it.

    > >*What* DT opinions? You have practically had a post in every jam for the > >last month, and I can count the number of DT opinions in them on one hand. > > > Yeah, but every time I do, they get ignored.

I hate to say it, but I think it might be because the *way* you were posting. I would bet there are few people who actually read every jam. In most cases, I think they just skim, I know I do a lot. If there is an interesting thread, I'll read it; if a thread annoys me, I'll skip it. There are exceptions to every rule of course, but that's the way it usually is.

But I know that I - and many others - will also go by *who* posts, and not just the topic. If I see a post by Skadz or Bafu or D-Man, I read it because whether I agree or disagree with what they say, they are usually funny about it and make their point intelligently (with obvious exceptions, of course :).

With that in mind, I wouldn't doubt that a lot of people read your early posts to the jam and decided to skip anything else you post. It's kind of like the little boy who cried wolf; if you post a certain way and annoy people, they stop believeing that you have something to contribute. Either that or the opinions you expressed are like the Metallica thing - recent threads that you just missed and people don't want to rehash.

I really don't want this thread to go on. I'm hoping this is the last time I post about it this time around. I'll be happy to talk to you more in private about it, or on IRC again, but this has progressed to the point that it's personal and doesn't belong on the jam anymore.

Ozzfest was SOLD OUT in Columbus Ohio last night, and guess who called in sick......yep, OZZY himself! The crowd went nuts and rioted. They started bonfires on the lawn and started the seats in the amphitheatre on fire, and the rest of the usual riot stupidity.

Well, burning down our only major concert arena in Columbus didn't get Ozzy to show up, but it probably made it so he's not allowed to ever come back. Fuckin idiots. Maybe the guy really was sick!

Ok. Kiske is good, but he is not God.And I guess he doesn't have an idea of what a high C (or anything related to musical knowledge) is. Andre Matos is a composer/conductor formed in one good music school from Brazil.I don't know if you know that Andre has been at choirs since he is a kid, hence, he doesn't have to improve his singing. He is a better musician than kiske (in a general sense),and Angra is much better than Helloween (including old stuff).Of course in my opinion. while Kiko and the other guys can play jazz (Kiko is a jazz guitar player too), brazillian music, classic, etc, Helloween only can play Heavy Metal. Very Well, I must admit, but not enough to beat ANgra.

Hi there, various assorted ytse-jammers. My name is Nick and I live in Johannesburg,South Africa (not exactly the Prog-rock capital of the world, if ya know what I mean). I think that Dream Theater are the greatest band ever to grace this planet AND I'M HUNGRY FOR ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEM!!!! I'm thrilled to be coming to the US during July '97 and would appreciate it if anyone out there could give me any info as to DT happenings during that month (gigs, conventions, clinics, etc). I realise that the band is recording right now, but hey, you never know. My e-mail address is nickm@edu.co.za . Thanx in advance

Yeah, there's some guy on the list who has a web page called the FLAQ or PLAQ or something like that. They all say that there's a ton of great information in there, but I dunno, I haven't read it. Rumor has it, though, that SECTION 1.5 has information about unsubscribing. Maybe I'll FIND A HALF AN HOUR DURING LUNCH and peruse this thing, see if there actually is anything important in it.

Perhaps they WANT to! Perhaps a nice side effect will be that they'll raise the bar on commercial and a lot of the chaff will be appropriately removed, allowing me spend my money on heavy metal wheat instead of Metamucil :)

    > Give me back the band that made Only A matter of Time ,and Metropolis I

No problem. Any other dreams you'd like me to satisfy? :) The band hasn't left, by the way. It's called growing. Don't like it, start your own movement...

The Force: > In my opinion, the two greatest guitarists ever were Joe Satriani > and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

You're excluding certain genres (like jazz & classical) in making that statement, right? Believe me, I think they are both phenominal players and all that other superlative, boner inducing stuff :) There are, however, several jazz guitarists that come to mind that would eat them for an light afternoon snack :)

By the way, I saw SRV at - of all places - the Newport _Jazz_ Festival shortly before his untimley departure. He closed the last day of the show out. He brought the entire crowd to its feet.

D-mun also attempted to soothe the anxious, sell-out, commercial predicting, DT fans: > I wouldn't worry too much.

What me worry, I wait :)

Kai: > The only reason any of my friends or I bought 'Surfing' was > because we were told that Satch was Vai's teacher.

That's interesting. I had no idea he was his teacher. I simply heard it when it came out and enjoyed it.

Didn't they take one of his songs and use it in a Sony Walkman commercial?

Who was the axeman in Dio? Sherman, set the wayback machine :) As far as a sound goes, Last in Line, Evil Eyes and We Rock predate anything in the 80's that left an memorable impressions on me. But I'm an old fart!

    > But I bet there's not a person out there who can't hum the opening > riff to Crazy Train,

Pay up! But I can hum the opening lick to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Uh, let's see, that would be 1968, wouldn't it? :)

Atypical Adam: > Anyone wanna work on a Debbie Gibson fan club. But...

No, Adam, I'm sorry, budly. I'd love to back you on this one, but she just does NOT have a six octave range. She most definitely defined the term 'shred' though :)

    Re: Geniuses?

I guess I have a slightly different definition of it :) To me, someone like Roland Kirk would be considered, in my book, GENIUS! Blind at the age of two, he learned and performed on more than 40 instruments, some of which he invented himself!!! Look for pictures of him occasionaly playing more than one wind instrument in his mouth at the same time :)

Scott: > Hendrix did things with an electric guitar that people had never > heard or seen before,

Even those _few_ people that were straight at the time :)

    > which to me *is* true genius.

    Not to mention groundbreaking.

Korgulus: > Let's just get together and bash something we can all (God forbid) > agree that we dislike. Like ingrown toenails or something. Or > vacuum cleaner noise, or plaque... :D

OK, let's get one thing straight right now:

Hoovers simply suck!!! Although it may have been trained by the Hoover, the latest Electrolux model EPM 4000 S4 GT Turbo Convertible has better overall tambre, a higher octave range and requires much less power. There's even a DT preset on it (called Just Let Me Clean :) for cleaning those hard to access areas of the room.

In short: The Electrolux shreds and it is the genius of all vacuums! All other vacuums simply suck!

    Regards,

    Jon

That's what I don't understand. Where did you hear it? It's not like the album was heavily promoted or got radio play. Some of you are talking as if that album was so hyped up, that you couldn't have possibly passed it up when it was released. Like I said earlier, if it weren't for 'Guitar for the Practicing Musician', and the name of Steve Vai, I never would have heard of Joe Satriani. Again, that's just me, but I'm having trouble figuring out where all of this so called popularity came from.

    >Who was the axeman in Dio? Sherman, set the wayback machine :) As far as >a sound goes, Last in Line, Evil Eyes and We Rock predate anything in >the 80's that left an memorable impressions on me. But I'm an old fart!

That was Vivian Campbell, who rocked on those albums. Anyway, to split hairs, I was only referring to the instrumental guitar movement in the mid 80's (mostly the Shrapnel group - MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Becker, Freidman, Vai, Satriani) when I argued that Yngwie paved the way long before Vai or Satch. The topic is getting a little stale, but I wanted to clear that up. Obviously there were many great guitarists before Yngwie was ever the lucky sperm who got the egg.

    >> But I bet there's not a person out there who can't hum the opening >> riff to Crazy Train, >Pay up!

That's because you killed all of your brain cells before the 80's began. Haha.

    >But I can hum the opening lick to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Uh, let's >see, that would be 1968, wouldn't it? :)

Hmm, I was -4 years old, when that was released. That must make you, what, about 100. Glad to see that even old people appreciate Dream Theater and Dio.

All of this was written in jest, so no one need be offended. (Do you believe that the jam has gotten to the point where we need to make these kinds of disclaimers?)
