Bolton and Carey aren't "rock" by ANY stretch. I think the dude was
talking about Dave Matthews types of bands. "Adult Contemporary" (huh
    huh, or something ;)

Trust me their older stuff is muuuuuuuuuch better than that. And Bruce
Dickinson (they're old singer) has better range, intonation, emotion... you
name it, it's 10 times better than Blaze. You should get Powerslave, Piece
of Mind, or Somewhere in time... that was Maiden's peak... and you should
also consider getting Live after Death.... that CD, along with Metallica's
'Kill 'em All' lit a fire under my guitar playing butt. i.e. I learned
every song from beginning to end... then I moved on to Satriani :)

    Hi Jammers,

I am a supreme lurker here on the 'Jam, but once in a while I post stuff
DT-related (clinic, concert reviews and stuff). Anyways, I just came
back from the Rush show at Jones Beach, NY and I'm totally stoked! I
had 18th row seats at the venue (my first time there) and it was a
beautiful night for a concert. Rush played their asses off and it was
the 2nd best performance I've ever seen them do, the best being last
Thursday at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Jersey.

Anyways, before the show started, I was sitting down waiting for it to
begin and lo and behold I see John Petrucci to my right walking down the
aisle. I didn't realize it was him at first because I've never actually
seen him up close, and he looks MUCH taller on stage, for whatever
reason. It was confirmed when I noticed James Labrie right behind him.
Followed by Derek. Followed by Mike. John M came a little later on.
So I had the whole Dream Theater band and the 2 wives sitting 5 rows
directly in front of me!! I could not believe my luck. My 2 favorite
bands in the world were all within 30 feet of where I stood!

Naturally, I realized this was an opportunity to meet the band, but I
felt a bit nervous since I'm kind of a shy type of person and didn't
want to say something stupid. I have met Mike at a drum clinic over a
year ago, but that was no problem since he was out signing autographs
for everyone anyway. So, at the intermission, my friend and my little
sister (a 14-year-old DT fan!) walked up to them and shook their hands.
They were all SO friendly to us and I felt stupid for being so tentative
to say hello. Derek especially was friendly, even making sure that he
knew each of our names. We basically told them that we can't wait to
finally hear the new album and that we're huge fans of theirs. Derek
wanted me to pass the word that they expect a release date of *September
    23* !

So there you go Jammers, from the men themselves. I must say that upon
meeting them and seeing how they treat their fans, this band is truly
special. Kudos to DT! Very down-to-earth, as most of you who have met
    them have already noticed.

    Take care...

    Whats up Jammers,

I'm sure another Jammer beat me to it..but what the hell................

Just got my ass kicked by RUSH at Jones Beach, Long Island and was
pleasantly blown away when I see Petrucci and Myung walking right past my
aisle seat during "Trees". I screamed their names but it was too late.
Nevertheless, I definitely saw them coming back to their seats ('bout 5 rows
back on Lifeson's side) and saw them just hangin' out there during
intermission (during which I had to regain my strangth after "2112").

My friend and I tried to talk to them during intermission but was
immediately shot down by the guy who checks tickets for that section (wonder
if he was even human?)..anyhow I was able to catch Mike on the way out. I
was wearing my FATES WARNING "Inside Out" shirt and first thing he said was
"Great shirt!"..thought that in and of itself ruled.

I asked if it was possible that they would open for QUEENSRYCHE at Jones
Beach on July 30th but he said probably not cuz of all the studio work. Of
course I asked about the album and he told me that it was set for release on
    Sept 23rd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I'm not sure if I'm the first person to find this out or what..I can't
believe no one else noticed them at the show..it was incredible!! There had
    to have more jammers there!

Anyway, it was just a great ending to a great show..RUSH rules supreme and
Mike P was super cool. I would have liked to talk to the rest of them
everyone was in a herd to get out of the place. Wheels within wheels in a
    spiral array.........................

    cheers,
       Carlo (aka Fates, aka YtseSatan)

Oh great! Now those Bafu-esque gay rumors are gonna sprout up again :)

Anywayz, Sep 23rd, huh? Kick ass! Wow, good year for Metal. Ozzfest,
Megadeth, DT, Pantera live CD, Megadeth touring :), supposedly a "hard and
heavy" Metallica album out by the end of the year (Quoted from Dave
Mustaine in Guitar World), and a new...HEAVIER...more progressive...DREAM
THEATER CD. Es ist eine gute Jahre, ja! (hope my Deutsch is accurate :)

Thanks for the note about the band, George (gbast@brickhouse.com)! Much
    appreciated!

    Peace,

Actually, if you've GOT to have them, I hear Mike Portnoy is trading Fix
shows for sliced bread. In fact, LaBrie was passing out Fix tapes last
week at his caribou farm in Canada.

My point is, regardless of what you may have heard, the band is just all
over the idea. Really. Spread the tapes around, I mean isn't that what the
band wanted in the first place?

Can you believe that all this time Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew have had a
radio show on every weeknight? Nationally-broadcast, 10pm, two hour show,
plus it ends at midnight so you can jump right over to MTV and get another
whole hour of quality psychological/carnal advice...

Um... Blaze is one of my favourite singers. Spiff doesn't like it when people criticise Blaze. That's bad. I admit that he was more in his element with Wolfsbane, but he definately suits all of the songs on the very-much underrated The X Factor.

If he does sound bad it's because of Steve Harris' and Nigel Green's production. That's the only thing wrong with the album. Anyone know who's producing the new album? I'm surprised I haven't read anything, seeing as they're recording it at the moment. --- In other news...

*Still waiting for my discs from KTS... I ordered them around the end of May. How long do they normally take? I haven't checked if they've debitted my Mastercard yet... Maybe they closed down just as I was ordering...

    *My job sucks...

*I get the feeling that a Very Cool Band are going to tour Australia soon... have no idea who though...

*I've listened to "Album of the Year" twice thus far and it's failed to leave an impression on me. I'll have to give it a few more tries...

*Megadeth's "Cryptic Writings", on the other hand, is still the number one release of the year so far, even better than Bruce Dickinson's "Accident of Birth" and Fates Warning's not-as-good-as-I-first-thought "A Pleasant Shade of Gray".

*I'm going to buy a guitar soon. I was looking at some tab books at a music store the other day - the only book that had any DT songs was a compilation one with "Caught in a Web" and "Lie"... but it was for 7 strings... damn...

    --- IN THE CD PLAYER:

    1. "Accident of Birth" - Bruce Dickinson 2. "Live at the Marquee" - Dream Theater 3. "Cryptic Writings" - Megadeth 4. "Streets" - Savatage 5. "Piece of Mind" - Iron Maiden

    Bye!

OK. Here's the scoop. Tourniquet "Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance" from Metal Blade c1993. This CD is great. Really great. Would I kid the jam ?? I just dont happen to like it. I tried to sell it on a number of occasions and this failed. Me thinks that I was asking too much. Therefore, I am now going to lower my price to free. That's right. FREE. Rhymes with Labrie. You get the picture.

Small print. Unless you come to lovely Boston to pick it up, there will be the cost of a mailer and postage. For the US, I would assume that this would be about two bucks. You would be responsible for picking up this tab.

And as an added twist, since I assume that at the price of free there could be multiple requests, you have to e-mail me and say what kind thing you promise to do for someone or some organization (i.e., not just promise to mail me the money). The most decent offer, plus two bucks, gets the disk. Mark be the judge here. Guess that's more small print.

    Hi all

nobody got the correct answer to my question about the link between Dream Theater and Prong, so here it is: Terry Date (he recorded the first album by Dream Theater and produced Prong). I win 10 points.

A sad day for me yesterday - Jacques Cousteau finally hung up his fins for good. I once had the honour of meeting him a few years ago while I was in the south of France, and can honestly say that the world has lost a truely great man, a man with a vision, but a man of extreme modesty. The seas and oceans of this world have lost a true friend and protector.

Has anybody here heard of the band Within Temptation? Any opinions welcome before I start looking for the album 'Enter'.
