Vince 'n I were trottin' down our local super mall, Metrocenter,
yesterday and swung into Camelnot Music, just ta see if they had any cool
shit on the shelves 'n what not....
Right when we walked in we saw the great "New Releases" stand, with Cd's
placed in thier somewhat respective "categories." Get this: Under the
ALTERNATIVE label lay Megadeth's new one, CW.
"Hmmm...let's switch the labels! There's a blank one over there..."
Right before we switched 'em though, a "customer service representative"
aka Twatboy came over and asked us how we were doing.
Vince, "What's this CD doing under the Alternative label?"
Twatboy, "Huh? No it's not."
Me, "Well, I think I can read right...yep. That says Alternative."
Twatboy, "Well, let me see. (2 minutes later) Oh, you know why it's
under the Alternative label? We were playing it a couple days ago, have
you heard it?"
Both Vince and I, "Um. We own it."
Twatboy, "Yeah, isn't it different? It's like they've gone soft or
something man. They've like, sold out."
I started giggling while Vince retorted, "Um, I wouldn't quite say that
with tracks like Disintegrators and She-Wolf on it."
That's pretty much the end of it. There's more, but we didn't really
want to spend our time enlightening some dude with spiked, dyed-blonde
hair. BTW, does dying it blonde make you a "wannabe airhead"?
Here's my nickel's worth of DTC in this adventure: Look for the new DT
CD in the Alternative section if you're buying from any major store.
You'll prolly have an easier time finding it.
Then again, Alternative will be dead in a couple months, won't it? >:)

Well, now that's an interesting idea. Anyone want to pay me to go to
shows? That would rock. Talk about a sweet job :). Good shows tend
to happen in clusters around here. I saw Rush and Ozz Fest two days
apart. The Cornerstone Festival is next week (where I'm seeing
Tourniquet and Saviour Machine (their first US performance in four
years baybeee!!! :), also Atomic Opera (is Fourth Estate playing this
year anyone? They did last year and I missed them) and a ton of
other bands (really looking forward to Iona). Let's see, the HORDE
fest is July 25 here, Megadeth is August 4. I like catching cheap
shows, too (like when I saw I Mother Earth last December for $5 :).
And I do hope to video Tourniquet and Saviour Machine (if I can rent
a good camcorder). I just dig live music.

I saw Helmet at a smaller venue last night. About halfway through the show,
I accomplished my goal of holding the rail for the barricade, and Page
Hamilton was right in front of me. Before the encore, he asked the crowd for
requests, and I yelled "Gigantor!" (from Saturday Morning's Greatest Hits).
At that point he looked at me and said, "It's not that I don't like you, I
just don't like the song." At that point, they went into "Unsung" and then
"Just Another Victim". After the show, I got to meet all of the guys, who
were really down to earth. I talked to John, the drummer, about his
experiences growing up in drum corps. Chris, the new guitarist, was really
cool, and was ready to enjoy the Flats of Cleveland. But the best was when I
met Page: we talked about Coltrane. I asked him what his favorite Coltrane
album was, and he listed several as his favorites. We also talked about
guitar pickups, because his new ESP has DiMarzio single-coils in the neck and
middle position. He also mentioned that touring with Korn and Marilyn Manson
was great and that they're normal people, it's just that the latter wears
pantyhose. Overall, it was a great experience and great show, so catch
Helmet when they come to your town. You won't be disappointed.

Hi,
I recently got hold of a Fix for 96 Boot (Providence Dec 96 - thanks
to Mr Polzin (no really - thanks alot mate!)). So I've now had a
chance to listen to some new stuff and I must say that it all sounds
most cool - I cannot wait for the new CD. I think that "Burning My
Soul" is probably the best with "Where Are You Now" (not from the gig
but tacked on the end of my tape) very close behind. I also think
that "Take Away My Pain" is splendid - some excellent chord sequences
- I think it has a big Images And Words feel to it. Anyway - get to
the point - there's a bit of guitar in "Take Away My Pain" that has
been really annoying me - it sounds like something I've heard before -
and this morning I finally remembered. Check out the ending of "Holy
Lamb" (Yes - Big Generator). It is so similar!
Great stuff though!
Dave (a UK Jammer).

Me too! I think that WASP album ( the Crimson Idol) is fantastic..... of course partly because of the penchant i have for concept albums (and the depth and emotion and meaning they lend to the songs) ..... but also basically because this album rocks! Great metal - crisp , clear, and ocassionally complex - (check out some of the drumming here...) Great song structure too - Heres to Blackie!!
BTW anyone know the WASP album released after TCI - I can't remember its name .... apparently it was also good ... but not quite in the same league.

Hi all
It's CD review time again. I think Mape may already have done one of them, but he 'covered' my review of the Ritchie Blackmore album recently, so what the fuck. (The phrase 'what the fuck' is copyright Kevin Moore)
Cathedral - Supernatural Birth Machine
Not exactly a new release, but I waited until I saw it discounted before buying. Unmistakably Cathedral and for me the best album they have done. Typical riff-based songs, heavy and dark as hell, the occasional guitar solo and the spaced-out vocals of Lee Dorrian all mix together to make this a great album to simply play loud (very) and enjoy while throwing back a couple of beers or six. Nothing fancy and certainly nothing new, but perfectly done and an album that Black Sabbath would have been proud of. 10/10
Waltari - Space Avenue
Zoology question: did any of you know that there are chameleons in Finland? Well, to be exact, there are four of them and they go under the collective name of Waltari. You just can't nail this band down - as soon as you think you know what they are doing, they go off in another direction and do something totally unexpected. The last album 'Yeah, Yeah, Die, Die' saw the band hard and heavy, and now with 'Space Avenue' they have invented what I can only describe as techo-industrial post-punk metal. Very weird and crazy stuff. They run the whole range between very heavy and very poppy, sometimes in one and the same song, and the overall impression I got is that they certainly don't take themselves and what they are doing seriously and that the listners shouldn't either. A real fun album. Hopefully the next album will see them turning their not inconsiderable musical talent and wit towards neo-grunge techo-prog. 9/10
