I'll agree with "Misplaced Childhood," I'll REALLY agree with "Clutching at
Straws," which is my favorite album from the Marillion catalog. From the
Hogarth era, though, I'd opt for "Holidays in Eden," which I would actually
consider the second best of the Marillion records. I'll admit to holding
    the minority opinion, though.

Now there's that AAA music now (Adult Album Alternative), which is the
intersection of Nanci Griffith, Tori Amos, Pearl Jam, and Blues Traveler.
Some of that stuff (all of the bands I listed, anyhow) is actually quite
good. Some of it appeals to me somewhat less. VH-1, which has adapted
something of an AAA format in recent years, is actually a more interesting
listening experience than MTV now, which has become fairly monochromatic.

I'll agree with you that the mid-period of the band is probably their best
work (though I'd sandwich "Killers" between "Powerslave" and "Piece of Mind"
in rating the three best of their albums), but I actually think "The X
Factor" is a pretty good record. I prefer Dickenson, but Bailey's not that
bad, and the last album is actually very well-written. For what it's worth,
I'd say it sounds more like "Powerslave" than their last couple of records.

The band I was in for years covered a ton of Maiden songs -- we played
pretty much everything on "Live After Death" at one time or another. I'd
certainly recommend Steve Harris as a role model for budding bassists -- and
he's easier to get the hang of than Geddy Lee or Jeff Berlin.

Actually, the faq has a transcription of the article (what the Blind Melon guys said), but it doesn't have John's response. Given the latest set of requests for it, if anyone finds it, let me know, and I'll include it in the faq. I know I've read John's response (probably on here), but I don't have it.

What does everyone have against the Spice Girls? I mean, sure, they're nothing to worship or anything, but they're not as horrible as everyone's making them out to be. Wannabe was okay(but only okay) Say You'll Be There was better, and that new song, 2 become 1 was really pretty nice. Again, they're no Genesis, DM, or DT, but they're pretty good for having success normally ascribed to bands like Hanson or Hootie and the Blowfish, and they at least are shedding some light(albeit dim) in a world of darkness.

BTW, what's this about a rumor that one of the Spice Girls used to be a Spice Guy? Complete with burning guitars, bashed up drum sets and sealed with a kiss,

I can't say specifically why because it wouldn't be fair to the non-locals, but it has something to do with Megadeth and Queensryche. Hey, sometimes it pays to live in paradise. :)

June 25, Irvine Meadows Ampitheater, Laguna Hills, CA.

Opening band: don't know because we were hanging out in the parking lot (tailgating is a 15 year tradition at Irvine Meadows).

Lights were turned off at 9:00 and QR played about :110 total. They opened with the same song as the other shows and there was nothing unusual from the earlier tour dates. Geoff's lost some in the old vocal chords, he couldn't hit the high stuff on Take Hold Of The Flame, but it didn't really matter. This was the first time I'd seen QR since 1985 When they played with Accept (AC/DC jr.) and Keel (aka Ronnie Lee Keel and now Ron Keel) and I had a great time. The band was just on, they wre *that* good.

Missing this tour when it comes to your town will *not* be permitted!

    Hello friends -

Well, I must say that I have recently gotten into Angra in a BIG way! These guys rule! I just got my grubby little mits on "Angels Cry" and "Holy Land", and have been alternating regularly in my overworked and underappreciated CD Player. I have seen advertised a couple of other releases by these guys, including "Holy Live". Can I get any recommendations as to whether these are worth the price of an import? Are they LP's? I thought these 2 were their only LP's. Also, any track listings, especially for "Holy Live", would be very helpful. I know that some time ago a thread like this came up on the Jam, but I didn't pay that close attention to it since I had never heard these guys at that time. Sorry for the resurrected thread, and thanks in advance.

    Hey!

A while ago, there was mention on the Jam of people's favorite concept albums. I can't be 100% sure, but I don't recall anyone mentioning WASP's "The Crimson Idol". This album is just amazing! (I found my tape in the car yesterday, and have been rocking to it behind the wheel ever since!) It sounds like a metalized version of something that Pete Townsend would come up with like "Tommy" or "Quadrophenia". TCI has a lot of the same symphonic and dramatic qualities those 2 Who masterpieces have. Anywayz, if anyone is looking for a GREAT concept album, give WASP a try. I think you'll dig it! Bye...
