If there's no DTC, then why am I posting?

Well, for one big reason. I have come to the point now on this
mailing list where I feel I have achieved a somewhat veteran status.
I contribute daily to the mailing list with witty remarks, quite a bit of
DTC (except for now), and 'cattle prods', if you will, to keep newbies
    on the right track.

Yet now, I feel as if I have been living, or typing, a lie. I haven't been
true to anybody on this list, and quite ashamedly, I have taken to
lying about something to my friends here for some time now.

Ok, you're probably thinking, 'Get to the point, D-Man.' Ok, I will.

I'm gay, and have been since I made the decision to back when I
was in elementary school. I didn't become this way as a retaliation
against rejection. It's just a decision I made because that's what
    I felt most comfortable with.

That's it. I hope this doesn't scare too many of you off. I just felt that
this, the Ytsejam, is my family, and I feel it's my obligation to tell you.

That's the great thing about this list. It's family.

    Sorry for the no DTC.

Hey, was that a fight? For me it looked more like a pathetic
Wrestlemania show. But I still have my doubts if "biting" is a permitted
    move there.
I'm now reading "The Dilbert Principle", pretty cool book. If you
    haven't read it, I suggest doing. :)
Now for some music stuff, (NDTC, though), is it true that the
European/Japanese versions od Megadeth's new album has (1 or 2?) bonus
track(s)? If so, I'll be hunting those down instead of the American
    version...

Yes, it is true as the subject line states I can make you a copy of these discs on CD. Now I say again that they are COPIES and not originals from some secret stock pile. :^) I received permission from Mike to do Subconscious, Acoustic Dreams and now Antiquities and my intent is not to compete with him. I am doing this because I realize that there are a number of Jammers that missed out on these gems and I would like to help.

    > A note from Mike: > Hi everyone! I can't make any more, you're all well aware of >that. It seems like what Jim's doing here is a decent enough project... I >don't even know how he's going to cover costs because I barely did when I >was using much less expensive recording media. If you missed out on >Subconscious, this is your chance to at least get a CD copy of it. Mike Bahr, durnik@goodnet.com/mikebahr@dreamt.org

They WILL sound exactly the same as the originals. They WILL NOT look exactly the same as the originals. They WILL cost the same as the originals. $25 US each.

Shipping costs ============== Within the USA 48: free for up to 5 discs, $3.00 if more than 5

Canada, Mexico, North + South America, Alaska, Hawaii, PR: $2.00 for up to 5 discs, $5.00 if more than 5

All Europe, Asia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand locations: $5.00 for 1 or 2 discs, $8.00 for 3 to 5 discs, $10.00 for more than 5 discs.

If you send a money order I can mail the discs out without delay (usually 1 or 2 days after receiving payment, barring any unforeseen problems :^) ). All checks and money orders must be from a US bank and in US Dollars. This means it must say US Dollars or USD where currency is noted. A $ apparently is not exceptable and the check or money order can't be cashed. No Eurocheques please, my bank charges a large fee to cash them. :^( With a check I must wait 10 business days after I deposit it in order for my bank to tell me if it has cleared. I don't mind doing this but if you want it ASAP send a money order. :^)

    >I saw the Tyson fight yesterday (which was a waste of time and money), >and was wondering how Mike Portnoy felt about the whole thing. I know >he's a big Tyson supporter. Just curious.

Personally I thought it was the most hillarious thing in sports of all time! I mean, of all the ridiculous things I could DREAM of happening in sports, this was something that was beyond my wildest ones. This is something to tell the grandkids when I'm an old crustball. I'm not a huge boxing fan (though I love to see a good fight), so the image of the sport means little too me, so I wasn't disappointed. I just thought it was so pathetic it was funny. Certainly funnier than anything I've ever seen in the WWF.

A lot of people said Mike didn't take Holyfield seriously last time, and that he was too relaxed in his preparation. Well, you certainly can't fault him for not being hungry enough this time around - the problem was he bit off more than he could chew. :) Hahahaha! What would happen if you took Tyson and Golotta and crossed their gene pools... actually, nevermind, I don't think I wanna know. :)

    > Okay, this really bugs me. Anyone here heard this dumb song? > What's the line..."Lipstick and tights: Heavy Metal!"

Actually, I think the real question is: Anybody here care?

    > WHAT THE FUCK?! Okay, first there's nothing heavy or metal about any >music sammy's ever done, he's a cock-rocker. Every single song is about >sex. That sucks IMHO. Heavy music deals with heavy issues. > Second, this is WHY metal doesn't have good sales anymore. You'd be hard

Okay Vince, I think we GET THE POINT! You are the ultimate, coolest, most kickass metalhead in the universe! Metal rules! SCREW everyone who doesn't like metal! SCREW everyone who doesn't have long hair, wear nothing but black, and worship Dave Mustaine and Satan! Kill all the cock-rocking frauds like Sammy Hagar! No one knows what real metal is except the REAL, COOL metalheads who fucking kick the asses of stupid freaks with mowhawks who work at music stores who put Megadeth in the Alternative section! (What a LOSER... uhhhuhuhuh... yeah... he sucks... uhuhuhu) Blasphemy! You rule! What we need here is more pep talks like this on what REAL metal is, then eventually the entire world will be this cool!

    > Second, this is WHY metal doesn't have good sales anymore. You'd be hard >pressed to find a real metal band like Anthrax, Slayer, Testament, or >Sacred Reich doing a headlining tour in front of 8,000+ fans a night, like

Actually, maybe it's just because those bands suck, they're old, they're a dime a dozen, and no one likes that type of music anymore. Just a thought.

BTW, Motley Crue??? What the hell? I thought things were pretty bad with all the Megadeth talk, but Motley Crue? We don't care people! This is a Dream Theater list! That means we prefer hearing about Dream Theater or other PROG music! You know, like Rush, Fates Warning, etc.? That's PROG! Not cock-rock, not Motley Crue, not even metal, but P-R-O-G (not Prague)!

Well, the Queensryche show in Phoenix came and went, and it was a very intense show with the five troubadors of the Northwest really getting into the performance. I think that QR, KX, DT, and Galactic Cowboys are the four bands that do this the best these days. It ties directly into my #1 complaint about Rush, that the Boyz are on auto-pilot and the show just doesn't have fury anymore. None of that from the Ryche. From front row center, it was easy to tell that the QR five had eaten their Wheaties that morning.

The setlist had predictable spots, surprises, a few omissions, but was very good overall. Kudos to them for including Take Hold o' the Flame and Lady Wore Black, as well as good newer songs like Some People Fly (finisher), You, Voice Inside, and Reach. They could have dropped some of the newer tracks like Get a Life, and did we reallyhave to hear Jet City Woman and ARN again... but very good overall. And most of the Mindcrime suite was played. Noticeable omissions: anything from Rage For Order, anything un-single from Empire, just about all of Promised Land, and newer tracks like Cuckoo's Nest, Saved, and All I Want.

I liked HITNF from the start, though it _does_ have some duds on it, and this show really made the new material sound impressive.

And after the show, it was interesting to see how Mike "the Pussy" Tyson handled his fight with Holyfield....

First, to everyone that has e-mailed me letters of support, thanks. At a time like this, it's nice to find out who your friends are. However, you should examine the post more carefully.

Second, to the fucking coward posting shit here trying to pass it off as me: You're in for a world of shit. You better hope we never meet in real life.

Third, don't believe everything you read.

Fourth, is anyone else here going to the Rush show tomorrow night in Toronto? If so, and you aren't afraid of meeting heterosexual Ytsejammers, let me know (early, though, cause we're hitting the road early) and we'll meet up somewhere. If I don't here from anyone, we'll be at the Orbit Room afterwards. I'll be wearing the Griffin shirt and UVM hat (as usual), and Mike (he's straight, too) will be wearing a Finneus Gauge shirt.

Fifth, I almost forgot, I heard the Finneus disc today. Go buy it.

Thanks again, those of you that mailed me. You know what pisses me off most? This is going to be a thread. -d

    Ytse-jammers,

The 2nd Annual Worldwide Ytse-Survey has reared it's ugly head, working with one goal in mind -- find the band/artist (other than DT, of course) that the most 'Jammers 'jam' to! Those of you who were subscribed to the 'Jam a year ago will remember that Queensryche was crowned Ytse-Survey I Champion, receiving the most entries after trailing Rush by just a few points for most of the event. Who will it be in '97? Will QR repeat? Will Rush hang on this time around? "How to Play": All subscribed 'Jammers are qualified to participate. Just E-mail the names of your TEN favorite bands/artists (PLEASE, do NOT include DT) to me at 'syoung@phnx.uswest.net' during the month of July. Entries will be counted up until 11:59 p.m., July 31st. Entries from "the buddies at work", girlfriends, or pets will not be allowed -- unless they are subscribed 'Jammers. And, of course, only one set of entries per 'Jammer, please. If you can't come up with TEN bands/artists, that's fine, but do NOT go over ten. And, please, once again, do NOT include Dream Theater -- That is pretty much assumed, anyway, right?

Ytse-Survey I was a big success, with over 100 'Jammers submitting entries. Let's see if we can't go to at least 150 for Ytse-Survey II.

    Thanks, guys.

Some could argue that releasing a Dr. Feelgood Pt.2 would have been the "chicken shit way out." Times change, styles change. Motley helped to pioneer the genre and with the advent of new technology, it would seem to follow that they would try to incorporate the two, especially since Nikki and Tommy have been listening to a lot of Skinny Puppy lately.

Motley Crap sucks! The single (afraid) is horrible and the video is worse.

I agree with everything here, except they all rule :)

    >"Let Us Prey" is an amazing song but you can tell that John Corabi >wrote it and that its a left-over from the last album-in fact, it would've >sounded better had John been singing it.

Funny, this is one of the few songs on the album I don't like. It's very indicative of the John album in the sense that it's heavy on groove and light on hooks. And, for the record, it's not a leftover, but it would have been more at home on that album than on this one. I do agree that John would have sounded better singing it, but I think the song should have been dropped from the album entirely.

That's because Corabi is a better singer than the other guy.

    An opinion.

Abbsolutely 100% fucking correct my friend!!!! It was obvious that Corabi was better than the other guy because they lost a lot of fans. Ya see, Motley Cure decided in 1991 that they wanted to get away from the image and concentrate on the music. So, the glam fags decided to give up on the Crue because they stopped using hair spray and put a little more into their lyrics then blowjobs and elevator sex.

I take issue not only with your homophobic reference, but to your lack of knowledge in general concerning the Crue. Motley stopped using hairspray to any outrageous extent by the beginning of the Dr. Feelgood era and had completely done away with it before Decade Of Decadence came out. In addition, they had dropped both the glam and the leather image by the time Feelgood came out, right as a lot of bands started copying that look. And if you had ever read the lyrics to a lot of Crue songs, you would see that although they have their share of "Girls, Girls, Girls" type of songs, they also have a lot of provatative lyrics as well, even as early as "Shout At The Devil," not that there is anything wrong with writing about "elevator sex," (which was done by Aerosmith, not Motley).
