One of the Korg rep's that I ran into recently ( while wheeling and dealing around endorsers as usual LOL) told me that part of Dereks recent endorsement deal with Korg was that he had to do Trinity clinics. Supposedly that deal was inked back in Feb/March.....but i've never seen a Derek Trinity clinic anywhere? Did I miss something....or did I find something out that just hasn't come into being yet? -LadyDragon ( with a proud new discount on Korgs LOL)

Saturday night, June 28, Sammy Hagar played the sixth date of his "Marching To Mars" tour in Sioux City, Iowa. About 2200 people were on hand in the Sioux City Auditorium for the show.
Sammy's voice was in fine form, and his band sounded fine. Here is the set list:
Marching To Mars There's Only One Way To Rock Returning Home I'll Fall In Love Again Salvation On Sand Hill Why Can't This Be Love Who Has The Right? Bad Motor Scooter Good Rockin' Tonight Born On The Bayou (CCR cover) Finish What Ya' Started Kama Cabo Wabo (Sammy made a Waborita (his margarita) on stage beforehand) Right Now Little White Lies I Can't Drive 55 Three Lock Box The Yogi's So High Red Heavy Metal Eagles Fly* Dreams* Marching To Mars*
* - denotes encore songs
The crowd was small, but loud. They did "Marching To Mars" again and had contest winners on stage singing along. Sammy said that this was the first time he had ever played Sioux City, and would be back.
Sammy did talk to the crowd a bit, and did not take a break. Cabo Wabo through Right Now were done with just guitar and keyboards. Sammy said time and again that he is happier now than ever in his life, and how he thinks "Marching To Mars" is the best album he ever did.
Good concert overall.

Yeah. I went to GOLD ten days ago. (VISIT really by my foot) And the word I can say is EXPENSIVE. But, they're nice,well-stocked music store. Unfortunately, there's no on-line music store where you can get bootleg stuff.

Also, if you check the archives of the web site, you may find text, pictures and sounds from all John Petrucci's lessons. My favourite is from January 1996, which he shows a mini-song that he made to show soloing over non-diatonic chord sequences. Other lesson that I like a lot is from May 1996, which he puts out a super heavy, odd-meterish, E minor riff.

Hi everyone, Someone asked about Dream Disc. They don't have a website yet but their phone number is 219-347-8080 and their hours are from 10:00 - 6:00 Monday through Friday (Indiana time). I have ordered from them a couple of times and if the CD I ordered was in stock, I usually got my order just a couple of days later. A great mail-order company.

Actually, wouldn't it be "D'oh!" with an upside-down exclamation point in front (my keyboard doesn't do that.)

Why don't you try to email them a simple question about ordering or stock or something? I guarantee you will not get a reply. That's why I will not order from them. Also, you have to pay by either wiring the funds (pricey) or an international money order in yen (also pricey). I'm guessing the only way you can take advantage of them, if they have any integrity at all, is if you live in Japan and can visit their store. But what do *I* know? :)

Motley Crap sucks! The single (afraid) is horrible and the video is worse. I had a feeling when they were on the AMA that they would suck and I was right.
>"Let Us Prey" is an amazing song but you can tell that John Corabi >wrote it and that its a left-over from the last album-in fact, it would've >sounded better had John been singing it.
That's because Corabi is a better singer than the other guy.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I wish my wife and I had kids. But if it would make me into a pussy like it seems to do to some, then I'm glad I just have dogs1 ;-)
>Lesson learned: the band should've kept John- he had the voice and the >music on Motley Crue's self-titled album was the best ever.
Abbsolutely 100% fucking correct my friend!!!! It was obvious that Corabi was better than the other guy because they lost a lot of fans. Ya see, Motley Cure decided in 1991 that they wanted to get away from the image and concentrate on the music. So, the glam fags decided to give up on the Crue because they stopped using hair spray and put a little more into their lyrics then blowjobs and elevator sex. But now the Crue decided that style is more important than substance. But ya know what? They'll do better sales wise than they did with Corabi, but they'll never get anywhere near the fame they had in the 80's.
Motley Cure suxx!!!

Why do you people want professional musicians such as Vai and Malmsteen to play down to your level? Yes, I like slow songs, and I know speed is only one aspect of playing the guitar. But if a guitarist can pull off playing a lick in warp speed why do you criticize him? Ask yourself this, if your at a Steve Vai concert do you cheer louder when he plays a slow melodious riff or a furious octuplet tapping frenzy? And then you wonder why showmen show off...

First; a friend of mine told me his band might later on work with a guy who's the sound engineer for DT (at shows). His name's Vinnie Kowolski, anyone can confirm me about him ?
This post was longer, but since the E-X posts ended I cut this short. I wanted to tell you about my experiences with E-X, as I've been dealing with them for years. All that Ed said earlier is true. Keith has always been very kind to me and Ed and all their other fans I know. Anyway, I know the E-X guys have been through so much bullshit for many years, so it hasn't been easy for them. And now this.. Check their music out, it's not a good reason to say "this guy sucks, I won't listen to their music because of this". Hell, how could you know if all the bands you listen to the musicians in them were all assholes ?? You don't know them personally, so it's pretty impossible to pick your music like this. And even if you read magazines, they lie sometimes. You can't pick your music by judging the musicians personalities ! Or you can, but there's a helluva job to find out about their points of views in life ! I'm not going to go through that much just because of piece of music I love ! I know I hate the singer in Deicide, but I still listen to the music !
On to Nummirock-festival; boy did I have fun over a week ago ! Saw MEGADETH for the third time (they kicked serious butt !) and Sentenced, Stratovarius, Waltari, Antidote,Tarot..the cream of finnish metal ! Probably all the finnish metalheads had gathered there, it was a blast ! I wish there were more of these things ! And I think Mape was quite happy too, beeing onstage while Stratovarius played..you lucky bastard ! Anyway, a day to remember..fun driving 11 hours in a day though.. been awake for over 24 hours in a row !
Anyways, warm summer for everyone ! Satu

Here's an OLD article I found, I think it's from Kerrang! (The page looks like it).
US Progressive metal maestros Dream Theater have completed work on their second album, titled "Images and words", and due through Atlantic on June 22. Produced by David Prater (noted for his work with Firehouse), it features the following tracks: Side one: Pull me under, Another day, Take the time, Surrounded (The longest night). Side two: Metropolis-Part one, Under a glass moon, Wait for sleep, Learning to live. The album, described as "a cross between Metallica and Yes" is the first to feature new Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie, who was recruited after the band had tried out some 200 hopefuls. "This album is really diverse", drummer Mike Portnoy told Mayhem last week. "You have real heavy stuff like 'Pull me under' and 'Under a glass moon', and quintessential epics like 'Another day' and 'Metropolis (Part one)'. Asked about the band's 'progressive metal' tag, Portnoy commented:"We go way beyond progressive rock. We're not living in the past. We have Yes and Genesis influences, but we also have Metallica and other Thrash bands as influences. All of those elements are there. We don't fit into any obvious category". Dream Theater have just signed a deal with management heavyweights Sanctuary, who look after Iron Maiden and W.A.S.P. They hope to embark on an extensive touring schedule to coincide with the album release, which will kick off when they support Iron Maiden in the US.
There. Any comments ? Forget the M..a word there awrite !? =) What's that (The longest night) after Surrounded ? Were they originally going to include that there or what ? Maybe it's in the FAQ, but it's been a long time I ran through it, so... I also have another interview from a zine called No Glam Fags (now Ill literature)somewhere if someone is interested in reading it ? I just need to go through my zinepile then.

Okay, this really bugs me. Anyone here heard this dumb song?
What's the line..."Lipstick and tights: Heavy Metal!"
WHAT THE FUCK?! Okay, first there's nothing heavy or metal about any music sammy's ever done, he's a cock-rocker. Every single song is about sex. That sucks IMHO. Heavy music deals with heavy issues. Second, this is WHY metal doesn't have good sales anymore. You'd be hard pressed to find a real metal band like Anthrax, Slayer, Testament, or Sacred Reich doing a headlining tour in front of 8,000+ fans a night, like it was possible back around '90, or '91. When people think metal nowadays, they think of the glam. The pouffy hair, the red tights, the screeching vocals, the cheesy guitar wails, the arena-rock drum beat, every song about sex, etc.......you know the drill. Since people nowadays look back on the whole glam thing as a mistake, a time of unwanted bombast and excess, they perceive THAT to be what people refer to when they say "Heavy Metal". Lipstick and fuckin' tights. Off of the I-hate-glam thing, I think there are (or were) some good bands out there that have (or had ;)) glam tendencies. Extreme, Dream Theater, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Queensryche, Fates Warning...hmm, me thinks that's it ;)~

Greetings ye 'jamanoids...
Just got back from Dragon*Con '97. What a great time that was. Met tons of cool people, talked to some of my favorite artists & writers, and picked up lots of neat stuff. Even saw fellow 'jammer Paul Cashman (not surprising really since Paul's a prominent member of the 'con staff).
The main point of this post, though, is Iced Earth. The band was set up at a table for all four days and spent lots of time talking to fans and passersby. I picked up "Days of Purgatory" (available only in Europe so far), which is a 2-disc compilation set with material from their first three albums -- some of it with Matt Barlow adding new vocals, others with reworked vocals, bass and drums, and all of them with remastered tracks. They were happy to sign "Days of Purgatory" and were genuinely glad to hear that I would be coming to the show that night.
As for the show: IT ROCKED!!! Having sat through two acts I wasn't really interested in seeing so I could get up front for Iced Earth, I spent almost an hour watching while the Dragon*Con people fucked around with the sound and PA systems trying to get Iced Earth's sound right. Jon Schaffer (rhythm guitar) spent a lot of time walking around onstage tossing off blindingly fast chunky riffs, and chatting with the fans crowded around the stage. Drummer Brent Smedley had to sit there punching his left bass drum pedal for fully five minutes before they got the sound right, with similar results for most of the rest of his kit...you get the idea. Finally, over an hour and a half after they were scheduled to start, Al Simmons (the real-life basis for Spawn, which Iced Earth's "The Dark Saga" is based on, and a good friend of the band), came on and introduced the band. The lights went down, and the show started.
My neck is still sore from headbanging, two days later. :) Iced Earth plays some *serious* balls'n'chunk metal. Cruncha-cruncha-cruncha, with tons of time and rhythm shifts, and great playing from all members concerned. Jon's guitar work is impeccably clean and fast; with many guitarists who play chunky stuff that fast, they seem to be really exerting themselves, but Jon maintains those incredible tempos effortlessly, smoothly picking out the rhythms with no visible strain. (Jon was right in front of me, so I spent much of the show watching him). Randall Shawver matched him all the way, with a quick ten or fifteen-second solo tossed into a few songs. Matt's vocals are powerful and deep, without the "cookie-monster" quality that tends to crop up when the music's this deep and menacing. Jimmy MacDonough keeps the bassline moving with lots of punch, and Brent's drums were powerful and had plenty of kick, with some great double-bass work. Iced Earth doesn't seem to have much use for solos, but they rock so damned hard that you won't even really notice.
They played several songs from "The Dark Saga" (with Simmons joining in on vocals for "I Died for You"), plus two or three from "Stormrider" and one or two from "Burnt Offerings." In between songs Barlow chatted with the crowd, keeping us all keyed up and thanking us constantly for being so loud and appreciative. This was Iced Earth's first U.S. show in three years, and all five bandmembers seemed a bit surprised at the show of support. Jon tossed a couple of picks out and I managed to get one, which he then signed the next day. :)
The band is friendly as hell. They spent tons of time before and after the show talking with anybody who came up to them, showing a deep appreciation for anybody who likes their music or metal in general. When they were sitting at their table, I talked with all five guys and found them all to be very low-key, extremely approachable and friendly. They all thanked me a number of times for being so loud and high-energy at the show, and were generally just really pleasant guys. Jon told me to drop by the website or send 'em some email to let them know what I thought of "Days of Purgatory", and was delighted when I mentioned writing up a review for the 'jam.
Bottom line: Iced Earth deserves your support. Get out there and see 'em if they come anywhere near you. They're working on a U.S. tour now, with six or seven dates lined up in major U.S. cities already.
And, for those of you who like The Tick: I talked with Ben Edlund (creator/writer/artist) and he told me about some cool new stuff that's happening with The Tick verrrry soon. Email me for more info so I don't clutter the 'jam overmuch. :)
Cheers, Phil
