    Hi jammies!!

I just wanted to tell you all, that the SUPERIOR T-Shirts
are in print now!!! I'll have a picture of the shirts on
    our WWW-site (http://gaia.owl.de/~fine/superior.html) soon.
The shirts will show the face that's in the cover under the
CD on front and back (back a little modified) and on the
front the Superior logo, on the back the "BEHIND" (what
    is quite nice. :)

If you would like to order anyway, you can do that
    at the following addresses:

If you come from the USA:
jskewes@startext.net (YES, our friend Jason helps us out
    again!! :)

If you don't come from the USA:
    basmer@med-rz.uni-sb.de

The shirts are available in XL (for all who want
XXL: XL means really big! Those XL ones are quite
near XXL so we decided not to make XXL shirts) and L.
The shirts will be available from the middle of this
    month on.

For more info and prices email Jason or me.

    Thanks.

    Bye.

    Bernd.

    >I'm hoping to go to their web site and check out a transcription of the

It was on ABC. It was very interesting and sad to watch. What's really
interesting is that they looked back at Alan Freed who was a DJ in
Cleveland, OH who got into trouble for accepting money/gifts for certain
tunes to be played and he was fined heavily for this back in the late 50's
early 60's. Now it's almost like anything goes. Another sad aspect is how
they mentioned that certain tunes are played adnauseam for fear of the
public not accepting any other song from the artist. I look back at my
parents and how they new every single Sinatra song put out and it didn't
seem to jade their point of view on him.

Now as for the Grammy's - I think that a local radio station here summed it
up best. They were hacking on Beck (DISCLAIMER: I'M NOT SAYING THIS TO
TORK OFF ANY BECK FANS) and they were disgruntled about his Grammy. They
pretty much concluded by the end of the radio show that "Two turntables and
a microphone" should be considered a category for the Grammy's (ha ha ha -
Hope that everyone found that amusing. I sure did the other morning...)

I've been following the discussion the last few days on the problems with Elektra, and something came to mind. Elektra (and, of course, every other major label) just don't like heavy bands, unless of course you sell 15 million "metal-lite" albums like Metallica's Black Album.

Yngwie Malmsteen was moved to Elektra for "Fire And Ice", and was unceremoniously dumped soon afterwards...I hope they don't decide to do the same to Dream Theater. I could just se DT on CMC International (the label that has Yngwie, Iron Maiden, Warrant, and a number of other metal bands)....it wouldn't be good, since CMC doesn't have the promotional ability nor the distribution of a major label. It's a pain in the ass to search around for albums on small labels.

I really wish that DT's albums would get promoted more (that is Elektra's job)...it was nice to see Awake and ACOS in the HMV in the New Releases section, instead of hunting around for it, but where are the posters and whatnot? I hope there is some heavy promotion for the next album.

I think more people would like DT if they got to hear them...I've hooked a number of friends on DT, even though when I first mentioned the name they looked at me like I was making a name up.

Of course, in the end, if they do get shafted, as long as they make albums I'll be buying them. DT is the greatest band to come out of the late 80's scene and be relevant in the 90s.

    Seize the day, George

    Great lineup of bands there!

Speaking of Threshold, someone posted a review of the new album on alt.rock-n-roll.metal.progressive. He mentioned a link to his page, so the review probably is there too. http://www.uni-mainz.de/~kasper/Threshold.html

Just for a bit of perspective: TBA sold well right out of the blocks, when the only song anyone had heard from it was "Enter Sandman". It debuted at #1 on the charts. Those fans had no idea of an impending "sellout"--we just wanted new Metallica.

I'm not going to argue about the sellout aspect of it, but to attribute all of its popularity to being "blatantly commercial radio friendly" is to ignore (and disparage) a significant number of fans to whom that reasoning does not apply.

How many of you people already knew that the cop that gets killed in the beginning of the video is the "I love you man!" dude from the bud light commercials? For those of you who don't watch that show, you can kick yourself in the ass now. That's THE coolest half-hour video show to come out in about 10 years! You're right. It was recorded to please the bandwagon jumpers who listen to alternative (and would claim to hate TBA because metal isn't cool).

On a semi-related note, I find it pretty damn humorous that Green Day's so-called guitarist and singer has a sticker on a guitar that reads "Metal Sucks." Maybe it's just me, but his playing seems to be the work of a wannabe metallist (problem being that he doesn't have enough talent to play real metal).

The only thing that was so terribly commercial about the Black album was the production. The material doesn't stray all that much from Master of Puppets. God forbid James Hetfield should sing. I like the Black album.

Why not Dream Theater? Meriweather is just too big. I love the venue. I've seen Depeche Mode, The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Warrant, Huey Lewis and The News, Steve Winwood, Bruce Hornsby, Poison, Rush, Extreme/Bon Jovi, and Metallica play there. Clean, good sound <even on the lawn>. DT just wouldn't fill it, though.

Remember when DT played the Pier Six Concert Pavilion in the Inner Harbor in Baltimore? Summer of '93? Similar to Meriweather, but smaller. THAT kiced much ass. If the tour in the summer <fat chance> they should play there again.

Not likely. It was written ca. Empire.

I like it a lot, too. My fav b-side, though, is their version of Scarborough Fair.

It's the b-side of the Real World cassette single.

On varying nights, they alternated Last time in Pris with Take Hold of the Flame on the Empire tour. I have a video boot of it.

You're entitled to your opinion. Personally, I'm not a Metallica fan. I was just commenting that it was highly unlikely that Metallica wrote Load to appease the record company (I'm not sure if it was you who originally suggested that or not). As far as musical intergrity goes, who knows (and honestly, who cares?).

    > > >Therefore, it would stand to reason that the band is actually enjoying > >Load since it is not trying to follow-up a flop. > > One of the great things about LOAD (besides that it kicks ass) is that > it was not recorded to please the band wagon jumpers that bought TBA > and wanted TBA II. > Actually, Load is the only Metallica album I have actually bought. The reason I bought it was that I was driving across country and in the middle of my trip I stopped in a local K-mart in Bumblefuck to see if they had any new music. I don't particularly like it (aside from about three or four songs).

I don't know. I wouldn't have minded as much if they had to do a special order, though even that should not have taken as long as it did. But the fact is that even if they were doing a special order, they never TOLD me they were. No letters of apology, nothing. Which led me to wonder whether nor I was being ripped off. Of course they do come through, but they've always taken their sweet time doing it.

It fucking smokes. The only reason I like the Rush tribute better is that I like Rush better than Queen. There's a *wide* assortment of people on the Queen tribute - people that I thought were long since dead. Robin McAuley. Chris Impelliteri. Etc.
