the B-side is "Last Time In Paris."

Actually, Awake sold more total copies than I&W, just as i'm sure that TBA
will sell more than Awake did.

    woot

p.s. by TBA i obviously meant to be announced not the black album. which
cooincidentally is a kicka album. then again so is load imho. sure a few
songs on it aren't exactly "metal" but most of it is. there's a only a
couple songs on it that might be considered "alternative." most if not all
of the ppl that call metallica "alternica" just do that to try to make ppl
think that they have big balls cause they only like really heavy stuff.
just for the record, i like 'tallica's old stuff better, and love superior,
so don't start saying that i say this cause i don't like heavy stuff.
tallica was my fave band for years (til the first time i heard dt that is
    :) ) anyway, i'm just rambling here so i'll shut up now. i hope i haven't
restarted the old metallica thread now, but i'm sick of ppl trying to seem
cool by saying that metallica isn't metal. listen to ain't my bitch or
wasting my hate or outlaw torn or the thorn within etc... and then tell me
they're not metal. granted, they're not as heavy or fast overall as they
used to be, but they've always been a ballad type band anyway. sanitarium,
one, fade to black etc. i hope you tallica haters will at least consider
what i've said before you just flame me. "ok i listened to those songs and
they're not metal. duh i'm a retard." ok i'm done.

hey rip did i hear that you play diablo? if not you should cause there're
    cows in it. :)

    woot (again)

He also has toured with Alice Cooper after he *officially* joined DT. I
have a video of Alice from Santiago 7 Sept 95 where Derek is playing keys.
I personally don't have a problem with someone dividing time between bands,
especially someone who plays a minor role like Derek. WAIT! I'm not saying
Derek isn't important, but from what I understand he hasn't really been doing
any songwriting, so he's probably had a lot of free time since DT hasn't
been in the studio. To me there's no reason why he should have to sit around
with his thumb up his ass waiting for Elektra to decide when DT can record
the new disc. Besides, Portnoy is doing clinics and hasn't Petrucci done
    some too?

    for ND!

CMC is a GREAT label! Dokken is on there as well as a lot of the 80's
Glam bands. I hear Whitesnake is putting out a CD on the label.

I've seen Metallica 5 times in the last nine months and they play a LOAD
of old stuff, but they obviously will play LOAD songs too. Think if DT
tours after the new cd comes out but won't play anything off the new
album. Sounds kind of stupid, don't it.

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

Has anyone here heard of a Norwegian band called "Sea of Dreams"?
The band has been described as a crossover between DT and Helloween.
Other bands their sound is described to resemble are Queensryche (aren't
they all) and Stratovarius. Now all this sounds very fine and dandy but
I'd prefer some hard evidence before shelling out $25 for a demo cd
however "professionally" it is produced. The weirdest thing is that
whereas you can order the cd from their "fan club" in Norway for
$25 (incl. p&p), the same cd is available from CD Europe for $19.
Funky! Anyone interested, contact hkvalbei@sn.no or check their web
    page out at http://home.sn.no/~hkvalbei/.

Has anyone gotten their hands on Madsword's cd? You know, the one
with a cover version of "The Ytse Jam" in it? I tried emailing the
ordering site in Italy, but I never got any response from them...
could it be that there are no anglophones in there?

Attention all Rush-heads out there. Get an earful of a band called
Waterfront Weirdos. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. They're
very Rush-esque, albeit a bit more leaning to the hard rock tradition.

Has Power of Omens already released their debut cd? If not, when
    will this happen?

    Inquiring minds want to know...

The ones who like their metal bit on the darker side, here's some
news for ya. Finnish band Thy Serpent fucking smokes! Get their debut
album "Forest of Witchery" as soon as you can. This band may well be the
vocabulary meaning of "dark ethereal music", as seen in one of our
fellow jammers sig... :) The overall sound resembles that of Tiamat, but
at times they sound like Helloween gone black metal! The vocalist's "voice"
may cause some gringes (he sounds like he's screaming through a gallon of
pleghm in his throat) but once you get past him, they're awesome. And,
the closing tune of the disc, "Wine from Tears" with it's beautiful
simplicity will probably make you cry. Also, the Norwegian folk-metallers
Ulver's latest effort, "Nattens Madrigal" will be out in late spring. Let's
hope they haven't lost the indescribable sound of ultimate loneliness of
"Kveldssanger". Man, that cd never ceases to amaze me.

Aaaaand, in the nutcase corner, representing Waltari with a new album in
April. It seems they still haven't figured out what the fuck they will
become when they've grown up...their latest disc was a death metal symhony
with a female opera soprano and Amorphis' growling vocalist, the previous
one introduced genuine lapplander's folk songs for the metal audience
combined with your average New Your hardcore and the future release will
incorporate computer-generated distortion sounds (read:techno) into some
death-metal style singing with nasal backing vocals. What's next? Progressive
polka with Barry Manilow on vocals?

Why is it that everyone seems so surprised that DT isn't going to be in
the studio soon? I have seen a lot of posts from people who seem to have
just realized this from the April dates in Europe. It's been stated
pretty clearly on the web page since last month that Mike is doing clinics
until the end of March, and I know that JP is making an appearance in St
Louis in early April. The 'mini-tour' isn't pushing their start date back
any more than this stuff is. And besides, if the problem is with the
label, I don't think that this is making much of a difference. Hell,
maybe if the label sees that the band can still sell out venus after a
year or more without touring or an album, it will make them see what
they're missing and put DT in the studio!

As far as the Europe shows, has there been any official confirmation of
this? I only saw one post on it...

Stephane is organizing it, and he didn't tell the jam yet 'cause he wanted to
wait until everything was confirmed. I will surely be there, any other
'jammers planning to travel to Lyon?

Finally, my opinion about some new albums I got the opportunity to listen to:

Queensryche: Hear In The Now Frontier
I don't like it. Most of the songs sound the same and I don't see
anything special in it. I liked Promised Land a lot more.

    Threshold: Extinct Instinct
I've only been listening to it one time, but they didn't seem to change
their style a lot, which in this case means that it's surely a great album! :)

Symphony X: The Divine Wings Of Tragedy
An absolute killer! My favourite album at the moment. A progressive mix of
Angra, Malmsteen, DT, Superior, Blind Guardian,... excellent musicians,
great production, check them out !!!

    Take care!

Amen. I saw them live twice touring after TBA, and they were just as rockin'

still plays "So What?" live is not interested in "playing it safe". :)

Actually a friend of mine claims it is a song called "push it". You know,
the one that goes.. "aaah... push it, push it real good", and then the

Well...first and foremost, yes, Last Time in Paris is on a Silent Lucidity
single...I believe it's a Dutch import..somewhere around that region of
    Europe. :)

    >You can find a new Queensryche soundbite in WAV format (for "Sign Of the
    >Times") at http://www.mcs.net/~ryche/ The sample is a little over 30
    >seconds. I think it's kinda cool... yet again, they're sounding totally

Well, I've heard about 70% of the new album...and I wasn't all that
impressed. Which is saying a LOT, considering I've been a big QR fan for
about 4 years now. "Sign of the Times", contrary to opinion, isn't really
like "Last Time in Paris". LTIP is a funny, upbeat, almost joke of a song
(in lyrics, not in songwriting); SOTT is "serious" and almost bland.
Personally, I like LTIP about 3x more than I like SOTT...
I guess I can wrap it up in this statement: the new album is REALLY
different, so if you go in there expecting to here Ryche, you might be let
down. Listen to it as if you've never heard any Ryche before. Then..it might
    do something for you. :)

    Hi everyone.

While I'm STILL waiting for my Superior CD from Dream Disc (going on 2
months now), and also waiting for my Leviathan CD from Century Media
records (also going on 2 months now), I want to ask anybody for some
critques and recommendations about the above 2 bands. From what I've
heard so far, these 2 bands are great. I just want to hear officially
from jammers (although I already heard about Lemur Voice's insights)
about how heavy these bands are, what their style is like, time changes,
vocal quality, drumming, etc. Any specific releases to be recommended?

    Thanks,
    Jon

Went to Best Buy yesterday to get the new Live cd. Of course they had no
copies. Walked around and noticed that after months since they first came
out they had Alan Parson's On Air and Yngwie's Inspiration. I then
decided to check the tributes and there was Dragon Attack.

I've only listended to half the tribute cd and think it is great. I was just
disappointed that the cd is only 42 minutes long.

On Air is pretty good. Has some Pink Floydish moments. Definitely mellow.
I dont understand why it is called Alan Parson since he only plays on a
couple of tunes. This cd has one disc of music and one as a cdrom. The
    cdrom is kinda cool.

I haven't listend to Inspiration yet....

At BEst Buy I was amazed that they would have (literally) 500 copies of
the Howard Stern soundtrack yet no new Live cds. Makes you wonder what
Best Buy is thinking. Maybe if they got a clue they would be doing better
financially. Like get enough copies of a new cd to meet the demand. Also
actually have cds when they come out instead of months later. Maybe if
they had listening stations that actually work...
