The other tracks on the Savatage One Child disc are Not What You See- edit
and Gutter Ballet- Japan Live '94 version. I think theres one other version
with the One Child edit replacing Not What You See. Ripoff- yes, in my
opinion because I have the Japan Live 94 disc and really don't give 2 ####s
about an edit of a song.

Hey, I am on the Dokken list so you can't say Rocking, it has to be
Rokkin... And it is true. I admit that Dysfunctional was a lot different
than their previous stuff but it is still great. Their new cd should be
out shortly....
about the Euro dates:
If Enchant does open at any of those shows, someone has got to tape the
whole thing! The only Magna Carta bands I have heard of ever touring are
Lemur Voice and Altura (D-Mans fav :P )
I was thinking about Derek's side projects. What do you want Derek to do
when Mike and John P are out doing clinics? Hey if he wants to make some
extra money, what is wrong with that? I dont think DT is racking up that
much money...
I read some of that Dragon Attack log before I went nuts. Bruce Kulick,
Joey Vera, Jeff Scott Soto sound pretty cool. Vera didn't really seem to
know what he was doing since he didn't say much. Soto and Kullick sure
did a lot of kissing ass to Kiss and Yngwie respectively. Jeff Scott Soto
did say an interting statement: "Every time I get back with Yngwie I
realize why I left"....

What I hate is when a band I love puts out a new album, and after a few
weeks it still hasn't grown on you.
When I got Images and Words (totally on reference, never having heard DT
before), I was instantly blown away. Imagine my surprise and happiness
when I found a japanese release of WDADU in a used CD store for $6.00!
That album also knocked me out on first listen.
Then I got Awake...for 3 months I barely listened to it, it just didn't
do anything for me. Then all of a sudden: BLAMMO! It's possibly my
favorite album of all time!
I really like ACOS too, it did something for me on first listen.
BUT::
Alex Lifeson releases Victor: After 2 months of trying to like it, I said
screw it, and I sold it.
Rush: Test For Echo: Not a bad album, but not a great one either, IMO. I
expected better.
Eric Johnson: Venus Isle : Bleck..
Iron Maiden: The X-Factor - bored me to death, although I still haven't
sold it (yet)
I hate when I shell out $20 for a CD and end up hating it, especially
when I own every other CD by that band...it bugs me!
Maybe I'm being a hard-ass, but I think bands should remain true to their
sound and style, yet try to push the limits a bit. In a lot of cases,
many bands can't do it successfully.
I hope the new QR album is good...Promised Land grew on me, but I still
don't think it stacks up to any of the pre-Empire releases.
Anybody offer an opinion on Steve Vai's "Fire Garden"?
My philosophy now is "listen, THEN buy"...I've been screwed too much in
the last year to do otherwise.

WTF? How do you do that? Please, tell me, and I'll sell you a bridge in
Death Valley.... Isn't "trying out a new sound" or going somewhere
they've never gone before what "pushing the limits" is all about? I
think people judge an entire career off of one album, regardless of their
history (even if they, being the band, don't have a history).
Case in point: Metallica's LOAD. I know I know, you're all gonna flog
me and castrate me and impale my head on JP's guitar, but it's true! If
anybody has ever gone to a Metallica concert within the last year or two,
they're just as thrashy and heavy as they were back in the days of
Master and Ride (albeit, a LITTLE slower, but much heavier), but NOW,
they have MORE songs to select from when they play a gig. We all know
that a good album has a theme running through the whole thing, or at
least through most of it (Awake's "A Mind Beside Itself," Pink Floyd,
etc.). LOAD's theme was vagueness with very crappy distortion. The
black album was an integration of thrash with a lot more balls 'n chunk
(guess that quote), just as Master's theme was...well, to be one of the
finest masterpieces of thrash metal of all time.
So stop yer bitchin', and enjoy the music! Or I'll kick yer ass!

Definitely Vai's best album to date. Of course, this is from a
guitarist's perspective. The whole album kicks ass!!! It's one of the most
soul-ful albums I own (yes, I even have Jason Becker, and IMHO, Fire
Garden is right up there).
Oh, and when you're listening to Pull Me Under...
are you like me, and get this mental image of some ape-guy running around
a room with a noose while the band's thrashing around on a stage? I
thought the song was supposed to be about Hamlet...but if anybody knows
what I'm talking about (MTV video), I'd like some clarification on how
the whole translation of the song got so fucked up?

Just a little story to share:
I was in my electronics lecture today wearing my Fix for '96 shirt and
two (that's right, count 'em -- TWO) different people approached me and
asked me about DT and whatnot. DT is the band of choice for them both
(as I'm sure many of us can easily imagine) and we chatted for a while
about the new tunes, the Fix shows, the petition, and other
pleasantries.
Okay, so this was a completely useless post. I'm sorry.
ATTENTION European Jammers!!!! First person to fly me out there for the
shows gets a free guitar! :) What a deal, eh?

Anyway, it's called "Disciplined Breakdown" and it's damn good, my favortie out of the three. I've had it for a couple of days now. Not a bad song on the whole album and as a whole is a lot...er, catchier than the other two. Actually, there are a lot of, IMHO, U2-influenced guitar parts (you, that jangly-The Edge stuff). SOme interesting arrangements. Just pick it up on MARCH 11 and you'll see what I mean. As for Private Parts, it's gonna rock.

John Petrucci is doing a guitar clinic April 3 at McMurray Music (where I got my bass amp :) as part of a grand opening thing (they recently did some renovation). Sign ups started last Sat. (March 1). I was about 5th on the list. I think there is a 250 limit for it (right Rip?). And, it's not the only clinic going on that week. April 1, some engineer/producer-type (forgot name) is doing one, April 5, Billy Sheehan is doing one (I was first on the lsit for this, hehe :), and I can't remember the exact date, but Al DiMeola is doing one. A guy at the store said they're trying to get MP, but that wasn't definite. For anyone interested, the phone number for the place is: (314) 428-8600. And it's only about 20 miles form my house. Ahh, this is gonna rock.

Define fan. I think it's more of the fanboy that will deliberately listen to something he doesn't like. If I don't like something, I won't listen to it. If Dream Theater's next album is what I consider shitty, I won't listen to it. I'm more a fan of the music, not of the band. And I'm not about to be some trendy mo-fo who'll force himself to like something in order to fit in with a crowd. Defeats the purpose of being yourself, doesn't it?

Yah... That's the one. Let's see, I just started listening again and the part at the end of Seventh Seal where he starts going, "We're going down, down, down, down..." There's number one. This is only the beginning. This CD still rocks verily, though. :) I like Runaround alot. I always have confused Runaround with Roundabout, sorry, I must not be a REAL fan. :) Like I can't wait for the next one to come out... :)

Yes, I heard a CD (don't remember the name..) over here in Brazil and I'd really appreciated, as much as I appreciated the "thanks to" Andre Mattos from Angra. :) I have one bootleg from Italy, called "Lost in the Sky", recorded live in Milan, "Palasesto" on november 15th, 1993 (Metal Crash).. Sound extremely good! I also have one boot of Lenny Kravitz.. Chicago 1990, but the bootleg is an Italian one. wierd. :-)))
Somebody already told me, but I don't remember the correct spelling of the italian speech, Take the Time.. "Adesso che lo..." (?). Huh? :)

I know what you're saying - someone's in a side project which either means that there will be longer spaces in between albums or that band member will eventually leave (the same fear I had when I heard Alex Lifeson was gonna do Victor). Anyway, I wouldn't worry. The reason why Jordan Rudess didn't join the band after Kev left (Jordan did the 94 concrete gig with them) was because he had side projects (and family) that he was involved in and so could not commit to the band full time - my guess is that while Derek plays in Ethyl Mertz from time to time, it by no means is gonna take up any significant time otherwise, DT wouldn't have settled on him.

If Kevin Gilbert hadn't died, would we have new dream theater in production stage already? You have to wonder if the presence of a solid choice for producer (as I'm under the impression Gilbert was at the time he went too far in his search for kicks) would have swayed some opinions at headquarters about getting the band into the studio
secondly maddy said something like.....listen to it (hitNF) like you never heard QR before, and see where that gets you...... maybe that's the point.....there's some negative vibe on here telling "us" that hitnf is sorta grungy, and to folks "out there", maybe THIS first taste of QR will boost the band bigtime......
sorta like the Enter Sandman-first taste of Metallica got me into that band..........at the time, I was like, WOW major ROCK! (dude).....and now, even though I know that Metallica made better rock before bob rock (Enter Sandman sounds like watered down metal to me these days, sorta like "metal for Dummies", knowhutimean?) I have to credit Enter Sandman, and Wherever I may Roam for cluing me into metallica
Sooooo, maybe, just maybe, the slightly grungy aftertaste reported about Hear in the Now Frontier will get some folks interested, and some of those folks will get clued into the past of Queensryche
