Okay.... I've seen on the jams ever since I got on, that people are
responding to other peoples posts on the SAME jam. How do you guys and gals
do that?!?
I'm just curious. Its like my mail comes later than some of yours. Wierd.
I've heard of a boot of one of the fix shows (I'm NOT saying I have one!)
but I think some of the new stuff sounds like Extreme. (ala: Punchline
grooves with Pornografitti guitar sound) What do you guys think, from what
you remember from the Fix shows? Just tryin' to get conversations going...

Hello Friends -
Okay, today's random and useless thought is... if D.T. named their segue into
"The Killing Hand" "Another Hand" since it followed "Another Day", now that
they've placed it (on the Fix shows) between "Burning My Soul" and "TKH",
shouldn't it be called "Burning My Hand" or "The Killing Soul" or something
like that? %-)
On the topic of "The Killing Hand", I thought I sent something like this to
the Jam before, but I don't know if it ever got posted. (My e-mail was
screwed up for a while.) Is it just me, or does KJL sing in concert "My one
and only HAND" instead of "MOAO Land"??? If he does, that's pretty
hilarious...
Oh yeah, the jamming CD of the day is: Fear Factory "Demanufacture".
Bye bye!! - Matt T.
P.S. - "Burning My Soul" absolutely shreds!!!!!! I can't stop playing that
one... I can't wait to hear it officially recorded!

dammit D, believe it or not i was just going to post a recommendation
for this disc just as i read yours. hehe. ya beat me to it. :) i
second everything you said though. but for me, it hooked me right
away. well, after the George Harrison cover anyway. the disc is
incredibly cool. i like the fact that these guys can play intense,
tight, and damn intricate parts without sounding forced. i also like
the fact that the singer doesn't sound like his nuts are being
crushed and the guitar is part of the band, not the driving force.
(or sound). if you're into crunchy metal, stay away from these guys.
if you're into intricate prog rock that sounds reminiscent of the
70's giants, you're in luck.

further evidence of this band's talent. they absolutely smoke live.
this is a DAMN good recording. maybe it had to do with the fact that
Kevin Gilbert was running sound... *excellent* disc. i was blown
away by their live performance.
ok. at least you didn't cover ALL the albums i wanted to mention...
;-)
Surreality - Passing Moments of Beauty
this is simply a great album, done by a fellow jammer, Matt Rosin.
it's in the genre of ambient/etheral/gothic, and is pulled off quite
well. he does all the instrumentation (vocals, synths, guitars) and
has a guest violinist on a couple tracks. the tunes are very
personal, very self reflecting. he writes straight from his soul.
it's definitely worth checking out. surf to:
http://http.tamu.edu:8000/~msr7146/imagescape/index.html
for more info and sound files.
Type O Negative - October Rust
i saw these guys open for Queensryche on the PL tour and *hated*
them. maybe it was because the sound was so loud i thought my head
would explode... who knows. but the Cow Virtuoso, along with other
#ytsejam folks, talked me into checking them out on cd. so i got OR.
i like it *alot*. the song "love you to death" about made me drive
off the road. simply beautiful. these guys use alot of keys, and
the singer has a deep voice. the lyrics are kinda funny at times,
but i tend to look past them. (don't really have a choice when the
music is blowing me away) :)
yikes. this is a long post. later. ;)

its something i just mentioned in a post earlier, i guess i'll go into
description.. what ack mode is, is instead of recieving posts in digests,
you just get each post as it comes out, one at a time.. its increidibly
handy, if you filter it all into one email box, and makes jam reading a lot
easier. i believe the way to get it is to email
ytsejam-request@ax.com
subject: asdf
body: switch ytsejam mode ack
hope that helps!

hm.. theres a concept.. i think the grooves are very strong, but i dont
know i'd go so far as extreme comparisons.. just my opinion of course. i
think peruvian skies is immensely cool with all the jazz stuff, and just let
me breathe and burnin my sould are killer hard-hitters. lines in the sand
just rocks me, may be my favorite new one.. another favorite is the burnin'
my soul instrumental break.. and take away my pain just kills me with all
that's been put into it.. i cannot WAIT for the new album. as for non fix
stuff, "where are you now" makes me wanna cry at places, it's VERY king's
x-like in some parts.. in others, not in the least.. and raise the knife is
just cool :) a happy little synop there. later on!

I was just thinking today, "who was the ultimate 80's band" What I mean by
this was not "who sold the most records" but who had the biggest hair and
who wore the most makeup and lastly who most quickly got dropped as soon as
"alternative" Seatle destroyed the music scene.
10. Vixen
9. Scorpion (yes they lasted into the 90's but barely)
8. Winger
7. Trixer
6. Warrant (the new stuff is cool, but face it they just aren't as popular
as they were in the 80's)
5. Firehouse
4. Nelson
3. Motley Crue (they were alright in the 80's, broke up and amazingly are
back together
2. Def Leppard (they just suck, but give the one armed drummer Rick Allen
some credit for carrying on through his ordeal)
1. Poison. (look at them now! Shaved heads and all!)
Hey just so I don't get flamed for having absolutely no DTC on this
post, I just want to say that this is just something for fun to laugh at and
to keep discussion alive. I am frustrated with all of the crap going on
with the label. I look forward to everyone elses top 10 list.

Tony Franklin was indeed in Blue Murder. During the first incarnation of
Blue Murder it was Sykes, Appice, and Franklin. By the second album they
had a completely new line up. Last year they released an album in Europe
called Out Of My Tree under the name Sykes that included both the second
line up of Blue Murder and "guest appearances" of Franklin and Appice...For
some reason, you can alway tell when its Tony because he never wears shoes LOL

Hiya jammerz,
How come DT isn't playing at the French Con??? I mean, they'll be in Europe
for other gigs, and it'd be mega cool seeing LV and DT gig. That doesn't
make sense.
Now....I don't know if I'm going to Milan to see DT or Lyon for LV and
James La Brie (Yes, he should be there, apparently).
Someone with more info on this shit, please help me!

Ok folks here is a bunch of info. Be careful replying to this message since there are a bunch of people on the 'To:' line.
So the dates we have so far are:
10/4 Forum Nuernberg 11/4 Babylon Munich 18/4 Pier 2 Bremen 19/4 Biskuithalle Bonn
Since I plan on going to the Bremen and Bonn shows here is some info that I found out about the venues:
Pier 2 Bremen ------------- Groepelinger Faehrweg Tel.: 0421 6918181
Biskuithalle Bonn ----------------- Siemensstr. 6-12 Tel.: 0228 612044/6 Anfahrt: Busverbindung vom Hbf Richtung Gesundheitsministerium
I called both of these places and they knew nothing about Dream Theater. The people in Bremen spoke English to me so I know they understood me and I used my broken German to the people in Bonn.
So why not try a ticket service. This is what I found:
Heavy Metal Kartenservice Rock-Ticket Tel.: 0561 77 00 11 FAX: 0561 1 50 81
I called these people today and got a nice lady that spoke good English. I asked about Bremen and Bonn. She said someone had already asked today about Nuenrberg and she had no info about any of the four shows. She told me to call back tomorrow so that they would have time today to check out things at the venues.
Ok boys and girls this is all the info I have. Would any German jammers out there that have more info please mail me? If I can find a cheap way to get to Nuernbeg and Munich I might go to those shows as well *grin*.
So that is my DT content for the day. Talk to you all later.

Well...hopped down to the Metro Toronto Convention Center for Canadian Music week on Saturday for the Sabian presentation of the Mike Portnoy drum clinic.
The ding dongs spelled Dream Theater wrong -- the usual "re" offense. Mike hit the stage 40 minutes late...played JLMB and LITS from the new material. Met Rick Terry at the Sabian booth after the show...nice to finally meet another Canadian 'jammer. Because of the late start we did not get to hear more than two songs of the new material.
The Sabian booth was quickly moved out of the main conference room to close up for the night, but I hung out and was the last to leave and walked with MP over to the area everyone was directed to. Mentioned I was on the jam and DT was the sound track to my life while he signed my ACOS CD sleeve. The asshole walking Mike over from the conference tried to step between us and get rid of me at one point...I gave him the evil eye, shook Mike's hand and took off -- far happier for my autograph!
It was cool to meet the drummer of the band that is the most important musical experience of the 90s. Mike says hello to everyone on the jam and hopes to be in the studio recording for the new album next month and hopes to have an album on the shelves by year end...no firm dates yet.
Hey Rick...did you get Mike out on the town for a few Canadian brewskis??? I took off to a sports bar down the road to catch the first Formula 1 race of the season only to see Villeneuve taken out on the first turn...DOH!!!
Greg, Toronto.

Actually, I joined a bit late, but could someone post setlists for these shows, and the dates. I had no idea these shows even happened.

Greetings jammers,
I just bought my tickets for the upcoming concert in Amsterdam. They cost 50 guilders each, which is about $25 to $30, I guess. It's pretty much, but the Melkweg is a very cool place to see them live. It has room for 3000 people, and it's smaller than you'd expect. I think it;s pretty unique to see them play in such an intimate setting, because normally DT plays in very big halls.
I read a dutch magazine called watt, last weekend. They said the new dt- material was going to sound more commercial than any of their earlier stuff. Does anyone who heard it yet agree? And in what respect does it sound commercial. I hope it's not going to be any grunge kind of music, like queensryche is releasing right now. I must notice that this magazine is crap, when it comes to metal music; they had other future expectations in the past which turned out to be quit the opposite. They also mentioned about the problems finding a producer. David Prater wouldn't be available, since they had a fight wit0h him after the recordings of I&W???? That man also produced ACOS, I guess they cleared thing up pretty much...by now.

I was in SoCal right at the beginning of the changeover to the SUCKS format. I'm glad to hear they're going back to their old format. Now they need to bring back *Stone Trek*, the progressive rock show... Where I first heard DT (WDADU-Light Fuse & Run).
>>>>Finally took the time & $$$ to get the *Live in Tokyo* video. Very good, especially for a person, such as myself, who has never had the opportunity to see DT in concert. Now I know why I'll never play an axe worth a sh!t, JP has those long, skinny fingers to run up and down the frets. KM looked a bit exposed behind his open rack of keys; I'm used to seeing a key setup like Keith Emerson's, with the full-body Hammonds, etc.
>>>>Also, my copy of Superior's *Behind* finally arrived (f/Knightsoftheroundtable; thanks to the person who posted their web address; a bit slow, but at least they acknowledged my email and gave a predicted send date.). Bernd: Most excellent work.
