            Hi there!

            Here are my faves...

            Rush: Nobody's Hero
Dream Theater: Voices, Scarred, Space-Dye Vest
            Savatage: Believe
Metallica: Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Fade to Black
            Queensryche: Anybody Listening?, Someone Else
Iron Maiden: Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Hallowed Be Thy Name
Joe Satriani: Baroque, Speed of Light, Tears in the Rain
Fates Warning: Chasing Time, Nothing Left to Say
Vinnie Moore: April Sky, The Tempest

Wow, 'nuff songs! :) Those ones really touch me, in many
different ways, although they're not necessarily my big favorites.
About D-Man saying "no top whatever lists": I'm not rating them
in any form, just giving names, so that does not fit as "top whatever
    list", right? ;)

they're increadible. simply increadible. the album is nonstop,
in your face, new york rock. it's the way helmet _should_ be (and i love
helmet, don't get me wrong). i missed them in their philly stop (it was
either them or finneus gauge), so i'll see then again when they come down.

    Yo,
Uh, I don't get it. I went to this page and got most of the samples of
Chaos Theory, but all I hear are what sounds like DT clone material. The
guy offering the samples seems more interested in telling us what time
signature each part is in rather than what each song means to them or such.
No offense to anybody, but I don't hear anything great coming out of this
    besides technicality.

And don't you wonder if they chose the style of the song to match
the lyrics? The song came off as being electric/angry in the verses, where
they talk about what ails us in this world, and in the chorus, the
acoustic seems to come off to me as being regretful of the things that
got us where we are today. Am I the only one this seems progressive
to? Anyway, we'll see what the album is like...

Although, I don't really get why you would want to wait 6 months to a year
for a bootleg CD, here is the address for Tunnel Records:

They definitely aren't a bad place- but your best bet would be ordering
something that is IN stock otherwise you'll be waiting about as long as its
taking Dream Theater to release a new album.

When posts of this prog band came up on the Jam, I was a bit
suprised: For those of you that don't know the University of Dayton
(most of you, I'd guess), there is a band here that's been playing
for a few months called Chaos Theory. They're mainly a cover band,
although I know that they like DT (I've copied some boots for them).
Well, I've since discovered that the two CT's are indeed two seperate
bands, and I would've wrote in sooner but I just had to ask one of
the guitar players if they knew that there was another CT. Today I
ran into one of them in our Music/Theater bukiding where I practice
guitar and I brought the issue up to him. He laughed and told me
that just last night the OTHER CT's lawyer had called them up and
"requested" that they drop the name. So, tonight's gig is their last
one as CT; oh well. It's good for a laugh, anyway. Take care!

    Hi Ytsejam Man.!

****** Thank you Mr.curth@execpc.com for answering my question about
    the Milan boot odd tracks.

Also........ Do any of you's remember comments on the Jam some months
ago about the comparison of Met Pt 1 and PMU having the same drum
patterns? In the beginning of PMU and shortly after the intro. in Met.
    "(I was told
there's a miracle for each...." - you know that part. Well I don't
remember anyone ever challenging this thought.

So I have decided to. If this has already been "put to bed" then
please inform me but I do not hear MP the same patterns in these two
tracks. I don't read music but "I'm a real good listener".

    To mister Anonymous:
I can appreciate why you like Peart more than Portnoy. My thoughts:
are Peart "smothers" (to put it mildly) Portnoy in a live setting i.e.
concert but, M.P. has that STYLISTIC ODASSITY that Peart went soft on.
    M.P. te
aches me a fresh approach to drumming whereas Peart is only writing
minor variations from his previous release. The percussion is my major
    attraction to DT.

    God Bless,

    Michael C.

    Hey all!

I'd like to personally thank everyone for their kind words about our band,=

for someone who thought he had no chance to get into law school 3 acceptances
ain't too bad (5 more waiting). holy shit!

anyways, browsing thru the jams i've seen things about new albums and songs
that do it for me....and of course, being the follower of (m)ass that i am, i
have to jump in on this.

first of all, if you haven't already, i definitely recommend the following
    albums:
    a) david bowie- earthling; i know i creamed in my pants about this a few
weeks ago, but 3 weeks later, and i'm still gushing. it's
IN-FUCKING-CREDIBLE! opens your head up nicely with its mix of techno/jungle,
nineinchnails, and king crimson flavors. reeves gabrels gets my nod for
guitarist of the year, and unless someone comes out with a completely
mind-blowing album, this is the best thing to come out of 97. seriously.

    b) renaissance- king biscuit flower hour, part one; very good live show
featuring classic renaissance tunes done with the london symphony orchestra.
according to the band, this album sounds a lot better than other live
    recordings and it shows.

    c) tori amos- over the pink; not UNDER, but OVER. yes, OVER. it's a
collection of b-sides and extended singles of "god", but as a treat, you also
get to hear her do a "verrrrrrrrrry interesting" version of hendrix's if 6
was 9 and joni mitchell's "a case of you". if you're REEEEEEALY into tori,
this is a hard find (i've been looking for the hendrix cover for 2 years, and
i found in of all places, providence, rhode island), and if you're reeeeealy
into tori or into hendrix and need to get the same effect some people get
from ingesting motor oil, go for it.

ok, onto songs that do things to me...it's weird- for whatever reasons, i
don't let songs move me so much anymore...i don't know.....i think it's from
bad vibes i get from certain fans of a certain female musician, but
anyway....laugh at me now, but when i become the world's 1st 12-tome rock
star and write pieces that send currents through your body, who'll be all big
    and bad, laughing back?

    why, ted kaczynski, of course.

songs (or parts thereof) that make me think "orgasm" or "fuck"
david bowie- "looking for satellites"- reeve's solo just makes me think
    "wow...orgasm."
prince- "gett off".....from the master, i suppose.
dt- "caught in a web", "mirror" "lie" - i'll try to explain some other time
type o negative- "love you to death"

songs that make me think "bombastic"
yes- "south side of the sky"
    renaissance- "trip to the fair"
    garbage- "vow"
    tori amos- "yes, anastasia"
    king's x- "life going by"

songs that make me think "space"
    anything from yes' "topographic oceans"
pink floyd- "wish you were here"- the whole album

songs that make me think "kill"
    fiuczynski/medeski- "lillies that fester"
    marilyn manson- "irresponsible hate anthem"
    living colour- "auslander", "time's up"
    thought industry- "fairy"
    sara mclachlan- "hold on"
    nineinchnails- "reptile"
pink floyd- "dark side of the moon".........all of it
    dt- "a change of seasons"
    kevin moore- "blanket"
peter gabriel- "digging in the dirt"

songs that make me think "move body in certain ways so as to attract
    attention from opposite sex"
    shannon jackson- "street priest"
screaming headless torsos (awesome band!)- graffiti cemetery
    vernon reid- "the projects"

You know, I'm not exactly positive, but I think it goes "...you cheesy lot
    of second-hand electric donkey-bottom biters!"

Anyway, next time, get it right, you tiny-brained wiper of other people's
    bottoms!

    (Sorry, couldn't resist:).

Actually, I can only think of ONE half-way decent station around here
(92.3 in SJ). There's no question the radio just sucks around here. For
Bay Area listeners, if you haven't tried them yet, I highly recommend a
bunch of college stations around the area (try 89.7, 90.1, 90.3, and/or
90.7). The 90.3 station (KUSF) actually has an all-night metal show going
    from 2 a.m.-8 a.m. on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings.
And if any of you happen to catch a metal show at some other time on ANY
radio station, PLEASE e-mail me. I'm dying to get more of this stuff.
Oh, yeah, I also have a small miracle to report. Last night, completely
by accident, I caught part of Iron Maiden's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner"
on KSJO. Couldn't believe my ears. Whenever I tune in to KSJO, they're
always playing SHIT. I guess I just got lucky. Anyway, it was definitely
    a treat.
