With Megadeth's new album to be released in about 3 months, there is a fair bit
of talk on the MD list about touring partners... Apparently, Ratlhead (MD list
owner) put it to Dave Mustaine that DT would be a cool match... Dave's response
was that he was interested, but owing to music biz politics (or somesuch shit)
it would have to be DT's management that made the calls to get it to happen...

SO HOW ABOUT IT?!! GET OVER TO THE UK WITH MEGADETH, WHENEVER IT IS!!!!

Didn't piss me off at all.. takes a lot to do that. You did,
however, AMAZE me. I mean, I don't think I've ever heard such a
closed-minded comment before, and there's been plenty of crap all over
the Internet (And over the Jam a little while ago). It seems to me that
YOU have been blinded and deluded by progressive rock so much so that you
have developed an incredible superiority complex. If you don't like the
music, that's one thing. It's fine to have an opinion. But when you
bash a whole category of music, you prove yourself to be extremely
    ignorant.

            Hope I didn't hurt your over-sized ego,

    Hi!

IMHO you got the wrong one. In fact it's the only Marillion album I didn't buy,
I also didn't go to one of the following shows as a revenge for this weak
thing. Many love it, but I think it's pure boring shit. No energy. That's the
problem with the music of today, NO ENERGY. Listen to the latest Soundgarden
singles, then listen to the stuff from Badmotorfinger (Jesus Christ Pose!!).
Same for Metallica. That's what I like about DT, even the calm and slow stuff
    has LOTS of energy.

    Ok, enough rambling.

     Well, how about QR then?
Here's what The Rocket (Seattle music paper) says about the new cd.
The article includes a cut-out paper doll of GT along with grunge clothes to
    dress him up in.

".....the band has looked to many of Seattle's most successful bands for
inspiration, particularly Alice in Chains and Soundgarden.....The chugging
pulse of the ironically-titled opener "Sign of the Times" rides a
Soundgarden- sounding chord progression and is flavored with Jerry
Cantrell-like guitar noodling. With the exception of a repeating acoustic
guitar break, it is solid Northwest sludge and sets the tone for the 13
    songs that follow.
The first three songs...definitely ride a "Seattle Sound" vibe...There are
moments when one hears more Alice in Chains or Soundgarden than QR in the
songs...many of the riffs are incredibly derivitive."

It also mentions that is was recorded at PJ'sStone Gossard's studio and
recorded and mixed by Toby Wright, best known for his work with AiC.
Wonder if that had anything to do with it.

BTW, I don't like grunge either, just passing along info.

cd-rom drives and sound cards, and i seem to be the only one capable of

(although, I did get that annoying "this is a GUY singing?" remark from my

DTC: for those of you just recently hearing the majesty demos....what

hey Korg, which dentist did you go to anyway?
I can just see it....you're waiting to see the dentist, because you think
you got a cavity, or you're getting a root canal....and then Crazy train
come on....and it ends, and there's that evil little laugh, and the weird
voice says "next!", just as the dentist comes through the door, and you're
thinking....Jack Nicholson in the little shop of horrors......(i know, i
    know, he wasn't the dentist)

anyways....a quick little trivia quiz.......who was "finneaus gauge"? and
how's the real guy's name spelled?

answer the next time i do e-mail......

Just save yourself the pain and money. Go somewhere
else to get your bootlegs. Do not buy from Tunnel
Records. I was all excited about a major purchase from
them, but they screwed me too. I only received four of
the seven Dream Theater CDs that I ordered and they have
yet to provide me the refund they promised three months ago.

They claim that they are overworked and really appreciate
everyone's business. They pretend to be friendly on the
phone, and they post pretty, apologetic emails to
alt.music.bootlegs. They are liars, cheats, and greedy
bastards who don't deserve our money.

I would suggest Eric's CD Mine as well as CD Cellar. They
have never lied to me or cheated me. Just search for them
    on the net.

Well, I don't in any way want to support or condone the original poster. It is pretty clear to me that he wanted to piss people off.

OTOH, I don't think bashing a whole category of music is necessarily ignorant or closed minded. Bashing it without having listened would be closed minded. I've been listening to Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and their ilk for years, now. I understand that many people like this music and see redeeming qualities in it. I do not. I can remember digging a couple of songs by a band called Candlebox. They belong to the Seattle wave, right?

My point is that once you've given something a fair chance, you don't have to be spineless and follow the herd. There are valid objective reasons for bashing an entire category of music, and grunge happens to be at the top of my list. Furthermore, anyone's opinion of grunge these days is likely to be an informed one. Thanks to MTV and the music industry in general, we've all be drowning in the stuff. As much as I'd like to be ignorant with regard to grunge, I've heard enough of it to be an expert.

While music tends to be an emotionally charged subject, that doesn't mean that people have to forego use of their critical facilities in assessing it.

Sorry about the tirade...but Ytse-Ed's response indirectly called a lot of people ignorant and closed minded, and I believe there's a fair number of us who didn't deserve it.

..and I'll go to my grave believing that rap music and house music are oxymorons as well. :)

    > you like it. I mean, it's gotta be popular for some other reason, ya

..and the first thing you know, he's telling you it's popular because they "sell out", because "there's MTV, radio and whatnot" to hype them big... :-)

Been there, seen that. Times two. Perhaps more.
