Excuse this question, but I was wondering what has happened to Mike
Bahr? I have been waiting for three cds which I have sent in money for.
Mike is usually very good, but there hasn't been an update on the DT
page since the end of January and I am a little concerned.

If this question has been answered on this list earlier, I apologize. I
just got back on the list a week ago. (no E-Mail account... :^( )
    Could someone update me?

This is continuing with the recent theme of Iron Maiden's so called downfall. Have some respect people. Black sabbath may have started the whole metal 'thing', but IMHO Iron Maiden defined its limits. IE - Maiden's music practically screams to the world 'THIS IS HEAVY METAL', and everything else is just some derivative or variation on a common theme. Maiden is this common theme. They are analagous to a Tiger tank pointed in one direction and all they do is go foward destroying all that lays in its path. No metal band is more true to the cause than maiden - with or without Adrian or Bruce. Admittedly there are a few dodgy songs here and there and their international 'popularity' isn't what it once was, but this is not the name of the game is it? The point is, the X-Factor is Maiden to the core, Blaze suits the bill well. And anything that is the essence of Iron Maiden is the essence of Heavy Metal. Period

Mike Bahr has his own web page now at <http://www.goodnet.com/~durnik>. I read his most recent update the other day and he is currently out of town for a few days and has no email accesss.

Holy shit! Someone else besides me owns a copy of Chameleon! That album is awesome. I was used to the older heavier style of Helloween, but after hearing this album I didn't mind the changes. It's too bad this album was never released in the states. I highly recommend tracking down a copy to any Helloween fans who haven't heard it.

Tracks 2 & 3 are recorded at the Marquee London, April 23rd 1993. Of course, "AFIL" can be found on all the versions of "LatM". The Japanese version of "LatM" has "AD" as track four, instead of "Surrounded".

Well, on the Savatage "Fight For The Rock" disc, I believe the cover by Air Supply was "Wishing Well" and I think "Day After Day" is a Badfinger cover who I think is the same band who originally performed "No Matter What" by Lillian Axe.

You got that right. He's been playing THE SAME WAY for over 20 years. And I mean *EXACTLY* the same way. As in, every song sounds the same. I'm sure that's not quite what you meant, but if the shoe fits... AC/DC reminds me of one of those music boxes; just wind it, and it will play the same song over and over and over.

I, (as if anyone respects my opinion! - Hey! Don't boot my ideas! Please!) have noticed people talking about the newest Purple CD, "purpendicular." I urge anyone who enjoys Steve Morse to buy this immediately. His tone is so smooth. This is the best Purple album in years, and for the untraditional Purple fan like me, who doesn't really get into the same old "smoke on the water" stuff, maybe the best ever. This band is *tight*. You may have to look in the cd racks under "P" because the packaging isn't clear on just who the artist is, and what the title is. I have seen a bin card reading, "Purpendicular" as if that were the name of the band.

On another Purple note, I saw a tribute to Purple (not the "Smoke on the Water" one done by the LA Blues Authority w/Yngwie, etc.) by the New York Crew or something like that. It has Tony McAlpine, Vernon Reid, etc. Has anyone heard this one? It sounds interesting, but if it's the same old by-the-numbers tribute, I don't want to waste my cash.

For some reason, I want baseball season to start. I hate myself for that, because after the strike I had totally blocked out any desire to care. I guess my Capitalist Brainwashing runs deeper than I had originally imagined.

    GO WINGS!

hey all, i was out cd shoppin' last night, and picked up a band i've been wanting to for a while, having heard good things but never heard them. At The Gates: the cd is Slaughter of the Soul. these guys simply shred, i think this may take over morbid angel's Altars of Madness for my favorite death cd of all times. they really know how to do it. fast, and furiously. 11 tracks, 34 minutes running time. ahhhh :) they also lighten up on two tracks, one halfway through the cd which is a mixture of classical guitar and interesting melodic work, and one at the end of the cd, which is kind of a gothic but not "gothic" as in the music label but just really demonic and cool tune. so to all you bangers out there, you must hear these guys. :) later on ~Rip

This is a decent thread to start even if it has minimal DT content and could quickly decompose into a top-5 kind of thing. The really unbelievable thing is that the two best performances that I have seen are jazz.

Spyro Gyra in about 1977 at some grungy bar outside Buffalo (note DT content because of Jay Beckenstein). Then the Pat Metheny Group in Cambridge MA around 1987 (second show). The amazing thing is that both of these bands have the image in some circles as being wushy and both were "experimenting" with new music in a small setting. Well, here's for more experiments as they both played like mad. It continues to astonish me why the live CDs from these bands (especially Metheny) dont have at least some of these type of performances included. The word intensity was redefined.

Separately, are there any jam pre "Heaven in 97" get togethers planned ?? You know, like "lets meet at the Trinity pub" ........

Well....What about that subject? I couldnīt come up with a suitable one so...

Anyway....Savatage is my favoriteband and therefor I have dedicated my homepage to them. Why do I tell you this?? I donīt know.....

I often hear complaints about Savatage and their ability to NOT tour the states.

    ------------------------------

Whenīs the next tour then? Well, this I have also heard: The new Savatage album is due to be released this summer. The album hasnīt got a name yet, but whatever it may be, it surely will be great to hear it.

Now, people say that itīs going to be a hard task to make a better album than DWD, but I think thatīs no problem...Since my favorite album STILL is "Hall Of The Mountain King"........

So...No matter what kinda album they come up with, I have a hard time believing they can make a better album that "HOMK".........

    HAHAHAH!

I just picked this one up in a used CD bin just this last week. It looked pretty kewl on the cover and the songs didn't seem too bad, but I started listening and there was this Barney (Napalm Death Barney) shouting at me. Giving it a listen though, I think I'd have really liked these guys more if the production were better. :) Still not bad if you can enjoy real heavy stuff.

The lyrics are pretty kewl, too. :) KorgX3 a.k.a. ibanez@cyberhighway.net http://www.cyberhighway.net/~ibanez/index.html Disclaimer: The content expressed in the previous document is not the opinion of the author. Cogy!!! Long time no see! Anywho, when I play double bass, i usually always play heels up, with balls of my feet. For slower parts, where heels down might be considered...I usually just try to play that with one foot. i.e., the double bass speed under "but don't cut your losses too sooooon.." in 6:00. On a good day I can actually play that one-footed. It's easier for me to keep it steady that way. Actually, now that i think about it, I play heel up all the time with double and single feet, with the possible exception of playing jazz, where I'll play heel down to keep the volume down.
