-Maybe this is why Noise records won't distribute Superior's
-CD in the US?? I don't know. It would be a shame if
-Superior's CD won't be released because of some brit pop band
    -using the same name.....

    Ryan,

If Superior, the Prog band :) has registered their name and so
forth, and they can get legal rights to the name and PROVE
they had it first, these little pricks from England gotta find
a new name...anyone care to bet that these guys ripped off the
    name?

well i picked up hitnf yesterday. I spent my gas money on it, but i
figured it would be worth it. i get it home and the case is all smashed up
so the cd doesn't even fit in it. i think "that's fine it's not like it'll
be in the case much anyway." then i put it in and crank it. what do i
hear? grunge. now i'm not going to say queensryche = grunge or call it
grunge in the now frontier or whatever, cause i still like the band. i'm
just affraid that they may have hopped on the money wagon. i wanted to
like this album, but there's no denying the grunge. i don't think load was
grunge, just more like hard rock. hintf is definately grunge.

the sad thing is, their little scheme probably won't work because they
can't write a decent grunge song. they're not used to it and it's not their
style. i can just invision the producer telling the guitarist to slow down
cause fast solos aren't taken kindly by grunge fans. there isn't one fast
arpeggio or even a build up sweep or anything on the whole album. the
solos are boring, there isn't one memorable riff on the whole album, and
geoff's voice while still awesome is noticably worse.

you can see in the picture in the cd liner notes where geoff's cigarette
was airbrushed out from between his fingers. take a look!

sign of the times is way too short, and if it were an english paper it
would get an f. they've got a good idea, but they support it with only 3
ideas, leaving the listener not very persuaded and wishing they wouldn't
have lost their interest in decent lyrics.

if you've skipped the rest read this: Hear in the Now Frontier® is not
metal and not the least bit proggresive.

if anyone disagrees please point me towards a bright spot. i really do want
to like this album. i'm a die-hard QR™ fan. hopefully it will grow on me.

in other business, will someone please tell me when and why gen-x ended?
i'm sick of being called a generation xer when i'm not, but i forgot why it
    is that i'm not.

I've been on the jam for about a month now and I'm daring to voice my
opinion for the first time today because I have much to say about "Hear in
the Now Frontier". The CD is pretty good, but I have one word to describe
how I feel about it - DISAPPOINTED. They still demonstrate some of their
wonderful vocal harmonies on "Miles Away" and they show that they can
still write kick-ass riffs, like on "Saved". I also like "Sign of
the Times" and "spOOL" (a very unusual, but interesting song). But
many of their riffs, lyrics, and their overall sound on this album are
just terrible. Riffs on songs like "Reach" make me want to grab Mike
Wilton by the neck and shake him violently, screaming "WHAT WERE
YOU THINKING?" The riff in this song is something that I wound expect to
hear from Bush (or the new Nuno album for that matter). As far as lyrics
go I don't need to say anything more than "Get a Life" (for those of you
who already have the album). The most upsetting thing of all, by far is
that their guitar sound in this album is terrible. It sounds incredibly
thin compared to their earlier material, and this is especially sad
since they are supposed to be a two guitarist band. It's hard to believe
after all that, but I actually do like the album. I've just been rather
down lately after the release of Nuno's album (my favorite guitar boy)
and the release soon after of the new alternaryche, just kidding.

:) There are lots of people that clock a lot faster than Victor. As for

The second cd from my magical bounty of new stuff is the
cd mentioned in the subject line of this post. Go on, read it!
Anyway, this is a simple cd to review. All that one can find on it
is the graceful sounds of one grand piano. That's it. Jens plays
50-odd minutes (even though 50 is even, odd?) of supposedly improv
piano music. I say supposedly because that's what the liner notes
say. Would liner notes lie? Not these notes! Jens shows he can not
and will not be confined by the limitations of neo-prog-metal. He
makes beautiful music, and if you like piano music with soul, played
by someone who usually trades rifs with Yngwie, buy this! Much of
the material is quiet, emotional work. I have always liked the sounds of
a solitary piano, so this is heaven. Don't be fooled by imitations -
this is the real deal. Those looking for loud, boisterous metal or
noodling prog need not apply. The next cd to face my review will be
Thunder's "Behind Closed Doors" which is quite a leap from Kamelot and
    Jens Johansson!
    GO WINGS!

especially since I've only heard him live, because I don't seem to have a

It's called Voices, and it's a moderated mailing list. To subscribe
send mail to voices-request@arastar.com with a subject of "asdf" and
put in the body, "subscribe voices Your Name". Unfortunately, Ken Bibb
apparently doesn't have time to sift through the ytsejam and pick out
the meat from the fluff, and so only those messages actually sent to
Voices will get sent out (which are pretty much non-existant).

This brings up something which I had contemplated doing several months
ago, but I didn't want to deal with it. Wouldn't it be useful if somebody
that was subscribed to the 'jam in ACK mode would quickly forward all
important messages concerning DT to Voices? It seems this would take
just a second, and the number of posts you would forward wouldn't be that
great since it would only be official stuff like tour dates, an album
release date (hopefully <g>), clinic information, etc. Official information
about other relevant bands might be appropriate as well (I wouldn't have
wanted to miss those Rush tour dates that were sent here a few weeks ago).

Don't get me wrong, I love this place, but every once in a while I get
behind on 'jams and I hate deleting them since I never know if there's
that one important tidbit that I would kill myself if I missed it.

So how about it? If you're in ACK mode, and you see an important
message appear on the 'jam, go ahead and forward it to voices@arastar.com.
It doesn't matter if multiple people do it; if Ken doesn't catch it then
I'd rather hear important stuff several times than not at all. I may convert
to ACK mode and try this myself in a week or two, but I thought I'd run this
by everyone else since I know there are people out there that already at
least glance at every message in ACK mode.

Both albums had their times for me, and now I'm revolving the four DT CDs continuously. I guess to answer your question... Awake is more of a vocal album for me- the way JLB sings on that; I&W is more of instrumentation. It usually doesn't matter though, which one, as long as I always have one of them with me wherever I go.

Couldn't agree with statement more. I also tend to listen to the instruments more in Images And Words and the vocals more in Awake. My overall opinion is that IAW had a little better sound.

And finally to all you people who have the new Queensryche already, go to hell (not seriously). I went to a record store today (keep in mind, I live in a small town w/ one record store) and the Queensryche one is sold out ALREADY. Not to mention, they didn't have the other CD I was looking for. This place is a big rip-off and I want the new Queensryche now..even if it sucks (just for something new to listen to>>>)

before the flames start for my last post i just thought i'd add a bit.

    consider the following:

fates warning's new one and QR's new one are about the same length. fw's contains 1 song while QR's contains 14.

a 55 min song is what i call progressing. writing 14 3-4 min songs is what i call (among other things such as: boring, lame, underdeveloped) hoppin on the ol' mainstream train.

Ears suck. They're ugly. What the hell does QR think they're doing plastering a bunch of ugly severed ears everywhere? Nuff about that.

I'm now listening to the new album for the 4th or 5th time today (I lost track somewhere). I will admit, there are some grunge parts in there. Some I swear were taken straight from an Alice in Chains song I can't place right now. Anyway, I think I disagree with everyone on everything.

This album has more of a 70's and 80's vibe than any other I've heard. I swear a couple of the songs made me think "Beatles" and "Foreigner." While I think that the guys could've chosen some better distortions, a couple of listens gets you into it. There's also a couple of places that I swear matched real nicely with Steve Vai's Fire Garden sans-shredding. I mean think about it. These guys transitioned us into this real nicely, they just didn't drop a huge alternabomb on us. Promised Land methinks had it's alternaparts in it. I get the same vibe outta this one as I did PL, I must be weird.

My highlights of the album: Cuckoo's Nest, The Voice Inside (the SV related song, I think), Some People Fly, You, Hero (I liked it, OK?), Miles Away, All I Want (I think Chris' singing rocked), and sp00L.

As for me, I really didn't like Saved. It was a real kewl song till he started screaming "SAAAAAAAAVE MEEEEEE!!!" The interludes are real nice, though. Also, Get a Life is a real rad song if you look past the chorus. I guess Geoff can have a lyrical bomb now and then. I'm mean, he's been shooting about 54/55 so far, I guess. :)

Anyway, my recommendation for people who don't like this album. Give it a good in depth listen. Flow with it, don't analyze it. Heheh... I think The Voice Inside kinduv reminded me of a new Rush song, too. :)

BTW, anyone else here think Geoff should not have gone for the Oasis look? I mean, damn! That strikes fear in me.

Once again I have changed ISP's. Problems with the modem dialup (no answer or that annoying voice telling you that something's wrong), and no answer when I call tech support since Friday night tell me that it is time to change service providers.

So, in case you all have been wondering why I haven't been responding to e-mail, been on IRC, or whatnot, you now know why.

One last thing. If you've sent me any mail since last Thursday, please re-send it and I will get back to you ASAP. :)

Hello all. I just went to Circuit City and picked up the new QR for a small fee. I LOVE IT!!!! I have to say that I liked Empire and O:M a little more than this, but I've only gotten thru the first 5 songs. Unbelievable! The vocal harmonies are awesome! I don't care for the drum sound though. I little to papery to me. By papery, I mean that the drums sound like the skins have a lot of slack to them. They aren't crisp. As far as vocals, I have only heard GT hit one really high note. (Track 4, I think) Damn those cigarettes! It sounded like he strained to hit it. It was still strong, but not like any of the earlier stuff. Now that I think of it, when GT goes to sing high, he sounds A LOT like Gary Cherone. You may scoff at this, but its true. Listen to track 4 and then listen to any song on Punchline. I thought so anyway! The guitars are really cool. The rhythms really are the strong parts of the guitar work. I haven't heard too much to write home about for the leads. Bass was again, very strong. Nothing flashy, but very cool. Great rhythm section between bass and drums. WEll, that's it for now. They DID NOT sell out! They still rock the hell out of almost anything on the market. Tony

    Hi Friends!

With all this talk of Kamelot sounding much like Crimson Glory, I'm getting a bit excited... (The first 2 CG albums are, to this day, still frequently found in my CD player!) So anywho... are these Kamelot albums available in America? If so, what label? If not, where can I order me some copies? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting back into a new music kick... just picked up Anathema "Eternity"... AWESOME! Also finally found after a long time Biohazard's self-titled. It looks like it wuz reissued! WOO-HOO!

And finally... the new Ryche. Hey it's different, but aren't they all? :-) For the record, I really like this one. Can't stop playing "Saved", "You", and "spOOl"! Haven't got it yet? What are'ya waitin' fer??? C-Ya! Matt T.
