Chris Cornell and Vedder are ok singers but I wouldn't call them amazing talents... that's a little far fetched for grunge boys... that's like saying Lars is a good drummer... <snicker> <snicker>
As for Kurt Cobain, he is correctly referred to as the "AMAZING NO-BRAINER".

i dont know about cornell, but i think vedder could develop quite a singing voice if he so desired, cuz i dont think he has much vocal training, and if he sang in a prog band it would rule,IMO,so if he took vocal coaching and other stuff like that i think he would indeed become pretty impressive IMo he has the raw talent, unlike most of all the other alternative "vocalists" who just shout or even kinda say the lyrics to the music..of course not that guy from oasis ,he kicks labrie's ass..ooo that powerfull whining voice.. :)

I've been a fan of DT for a few months now... and finally I'm 'really' starting to enjoy their CD's. Im not saying they were bad at first... but I find that with a lot of 'symphonic' music that it takes a while to grow on you. I've never seen a group where all the members have that much talent. Lyrics are probably the best around... just wish the voice mix came out a little bit more in the cd's... andyone agree with that?

lemme guess... you're one of those types that buys the cd, goes home, pops it into the cdplayer and stares at the booklet the whole time the songs are playing. Maybe reading the lyrics and even reading the thank you's and where they made it and how long it took. Cuz that's what I do! The first day I had ACOS I even managed to smudge a nice big greasy thumbprint in the black ink on the inside cover. How? not sure. Maybe the ink wasn't fully dry yet!
thats just my cd buying ritual. bruce

naw, this was cuz i got a scan of it and increased it to 600 x 800 pixels to use it for my windows desktop.. you cant help but notice then :) but yeah, staring at booklets rules. how many of you have studied the floor tiles on I&W? :)
anyways, hitnf: i love this disc. of course, lately i've been listening to a lot of old soundgarden and AIC along with DT and FW.. so this is like the perfect blend of tunage with a new sound to dig into. i really dont think the grunge influences are too predominant, they're just getting into more natural guitar sounds as opposed to fx up the bung. its definately a good buy from my standpoint, its getting lots of play time :) ~Rip ~Rip

They interpreted the cover to mean that the five ears represented members of Queensryche. The two outside of the jar represent Degarmo and Tate, and, since they are the ones that do the most songwriting, the ears are left (corresponding to the left or creative side of the brain). This person interpreted the right ears (inside the jars) as Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield (the analytical, or right-side-of-the-brain members). It certainly makes sense to me, even though the other three do write sometimes (Wilton used to write a lot in the _Mindcrime_/_Empire_ era; Jackson has contributed more to the new one than he ever has).

And I'm sure 'deth will be coming, as will Ryche. Hey, this past year wasn't bad, either (though you missed some of the shows, Rip). I mean, we had Steve Vai and I Mother Earth in the same week, Rush on Halloween, Eric Johnson (well, I missed that one),a nd some others I'm sure happened but can't recall. I just don't get this. I'm certainly no Cobain supporter, but neither Vedder nor Cornell have anything remarkable to offer. I have to disagree about Vedder and Cornell having anything to offer. I admit I am not so fond of Eddie Vedder, but Chris Cornell is one of the most prolific artists of the last ten years. He composes the vast majority of Soundgarden's material, covering 5 albums in the last 8 years - not to mention his collaboration with Vedder and PJ on Temple of the Dog. His lyrics may be scathing, cynical, and very angst-ridden, but his talent is undeniable. Instead of dismissing them both as not "having anything remarkable to offer", why not respect them as musicians, and respect that the tastes of others may differ from yours. While neither of them could be labeled progressive, they are legitimate talents, and huge influences in the modern rock-n-roll scene.

A few people have responded to this already, and presented some really good thoughts on the matter. I think, however, that this is something you have to experience to totally understand.
Before I came to VT, I was in various bands with the same drummer for about 6 years. (I'm a bassist, for those of you that didn't know that.) Bill and I knew each other so well that we usually knew what the other was going to have for dinner. In rehearsals and at shows, the two of us communicated without even looking at each other. I could tell by the way he was playing what would come next, and I was able to respond, even with my back to him. Also, Bill could listen to the bass lines and know when to pick up the energy or sit back and just groove. We were one mind, musically. We were tight.
Richie and I are getting there. I notice sometimes on jam tapes that he and I will do similar fills accidentally. We've only been playing together for about 6 months now, but we're getting tighter - getting better at communicating only with music.
Tightness is that unspoken bond between musicians. Getting into each other's heads and hearts to travel in the same musical direction without first plotting the course.
DT is tight because the members of the rhythm section have known each other forever, and know what that direction is (without actually having to articulate it), and that's what, I think, has allowed James and Derek to integrate so seamlessly into the equation.

Well I didn't get a chance yet to put in my two cents about the new DT (ooooopppsss just wishful thinking) ;), I MEANT QR. I just got back from Blockbuster Music and here's my thoughts on it:
1. Definately a LOT of grunge influence. 2. The Guitars!!! Maybe I'm just listning to too much DT lately, but whoever said they cranked up the guitars on this album, I must TOTALLY disagree. It does sound much different than there usual stuff, but those guitars just ruin it for me. Sorry. 3. Vocals.............still Geoff. I don't think the smoking has affected him THAT much. I DID notice that sketched out cigarette though ;). 4. I think spOOL is one of the only songs on the entire album that sounds like old (well...90's) QR. Very cool song though. 5. Nonononno...no "selling out" here. Think they just changed styles. Nothing wrong with that at all. DT did the same thing on Awake.
Final verdict - It's got some cool riffs, but overall didn't do much for me on the first 2 listens. I didn't have the money to buy it, but I'm going to go back and listen to it again later.
Scary stuff going on over here in CA. Cults, Comets, Aliens??? WTF????
BTW!!!!!!!!- All my CD's just recently got stolen along with my car!!!! I lost my whole damn collection!!! It was in a carrying case in the car at the time. I know I know, I'll NEVER do that again. But if anyone could help a worthy cause . . . . . . :)????? E-mail me: llc@sure.net
