I've gotten some good recommendations from that Ptacek guy, so with all of
his ranting about Symphony X "Divine Wings of Tragedy", I decided it was
time to get it, despite my lack of funds these days. I found it for a nice
price ($30.99) at Knights of the Round, and I figured while I was there
shopping I'd also grab Angra "Angels Cry". However, I had some difficulties
ordering it from their web page and an error message kept coming up. I let
them know about the trouble, but it turned out they had gotten my order
anyways. And here's a comment they made about my email correspondence:

Pat,
That was incredibly civil and professional the way you replied to my
scathing e-mail. Sorry for going off on the Jam and so forth. I just
slipped and didn't think of the (as you say) flood of e-mail postings it
would generate. I was put in my place, and have learned my lesson.
So, things are cool between us, and I realize yours and others points in
correcting me. I just got a bit hot-headed and I apologize.
I've got to admit, the Jam has really sparked my interest in great music
over the past several months, and it is great to listen to what others
have to say about various groups. As I said earlier, I've had nothing
but positive experiences in the new groups I've ventured into!

My mistake. The tone of your original post suggested a bitterness to me. My basic understanding of what happened in KISS was that when the reunion started, Eric and Bruce were put on a paid vacation. When the tour became so successful, they were let go. Yes, they had contracts. After all, they were techinically hired hands, meaning that they were employees of Gene and Paul. Many people don't realize that Jens musical passion does not revolve around heavy metal. In between projects he often plays Jazz Fusion and other styles that differ quite far from what you would expect. He's always been a very diversified person. ******************************* I can't remember who was looking for a RAINN show video tape. ( I have access to one) BUT.....the point of acknowledging it was to let you know that you can buy the Tori Live benefit for RAINN double CD and all proceeds go to help fund the RAINN charity. I know that its available at Calvin Klein sunglass booths in malls. Even if you do grab a free copy of the video...get the CD's too As of this past week I have come to realize just how important this charity really is. They keep survivors alive. ***************************** I definitely agree that the Queensryche CD is not what I was expecting, or even the direction that I necessarily would have preferred. BUT, I don't think that what they have done even remotely resembles "selling out" Queensryche has always been a band that goes through growth spurts musically. I believe that they're natural progression as a band has brought them to the style they are currently at.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE Motley fan. Tommy Lee is the reason I play drums. That being said, I think John Corabi is an amazing singer and a really talented guy (I really liked his old band The Scream). I liked the album they made with him (it contains Tommy's best work to date), but Motley Crue is Tommy, Mick, Vince and Nikki. It's like when Joe and Brad left Aerosmith. Another album was made, but eventually they kissed and made up. Anyway, I think Vince, granted he doesn't have the range of John, is a great singer because he has what I call the "Mick Jagger factor:" sure, he doesn't have range, but he's got style. Bret Michaels from Poison also has it, but I digress....

Hrm. That's kinduv a sad life to lead. I personally love those types of lyrics that make you contemplate their meaning. There are some that most people don't understand because they just don't take the time to decipher them. Others just decipher them in their own way. I tend to try and decipher them in the way they were meant to be. As an example, one just dawned on me today while listening to Marillion's "At that Time of the Night" (Great trilogy song BTW)

When I first listened to this a year or so ago I had the same idea about lyrics. I was like "What the fu*k is that supposed to mean?" I pictured an icicle wind chime everytime for some reason. A little deeper probing reveals that the guys drinking away his problems, finding his answers at the bottom of a glass. For some reason, it just hit me like a brick today and I almost ran off the road. The same thing with the Pearl Jam song "Black." I'd listened to the song in my own way wondering wtf for about 3 years before the idea hit me in the face. It's a wonderfully annotated explanation of an art student who falls in love with his model. Think again about those "Five horizons revolving around the sun." If you can't figure it out, oh well. :) You might need some tips from Rosey Palmer and her five sisters. :) Personally I think Eddie's an excellent lyricist. Cornell, too. My style kinduv copies theirs on some occasion.
Dream Theater's lyrics are rather deep themselves. I wish I still had that real killer explanation someone posted a long time ago about the relationship between Under a Glass Moon's lyrics and a person surviving a plane crash. After reading that, I've never heard the song the same way I did before, and I grew to like it more, even though JP said that it wasn't written about anything in particular. The lyrics fit it near perfectly. Mebbe the author's still here and might post it again. It wokked nadz.

My vote for dumbest lyric of all time is ironically enough from one of the great songs. "Mountains come out of the sky and stand there." followed by "24 before my love and we'll see you" I'm not sure if that's *exactly* right, but that's how I hear it.

ATTN: I would *personally* like to thank *every* person who posted saying the new QR sucks! I went to Blockbuster to give it a listen today and all I can say is THIS FUCKER ROCKS!!!!! I wish they would've released this instead of Empire. They called that album Empire because they knew it was going to be *so* commercial that it was going to build their empire. It seems there are a lot of people here that just can't accept that bands change with time. Led Zeppelin's last LP sounded *Nothing* like their first. They just sort of evolved, which is what's happening to QR. If anyone doesn't like them anymore then great! DON'T buy the cd and DON'T go see them on tour. Then they can get back to smaller venues instead of the barns that they had been playing. Then us *real* fans can go back to seeing them that all you "We'll love you as long as you always do *exactly* the same thing album after album" fly by night types can go find another trendy band to follow. Maybe my ultimate dream will come true and they'll do a co-headlining tour with Metallica, and call it the Metalliryche tour.

umm... does your general hatred of "alternative rock" have anything AT=20 ALL to do with THE MUSIC? after all, that's what you're buying, not=20 fancy packaging... i can't say any more than what's already been said=20 recently - there are fans of some grunge bands here. heck, richie and i=20 even like poison, and they're about as good an example of mainstream,=20 follow the leader music making as anyone else... the point, as has also=20 already been made, is that just because you're a dream theater fan=20 doesn't mean you have some right to judge other music. take that=20 self-righteous stick out of your ass (and ears) and listen to the music=20 you like because OF THE MUSIC... and respect the tastes of others. lord= =20 knows i'm not a country music fan, but out of respect to any fans out=20 there, i don't post about hating "wife-leaving, dog-getting-hit-by-truck=20 music"... much less several such idiotic posts in one day... =20
