Hey guys and gals. I picked up a CD the other day that I think y'all
will like. It's from a really slick Swedish band called Mayadome. The
title of the album is Paranormal Activity. Really good drumming, some
really heavy stuff, complexity, you name it. They're on Shrapnel so you
should be able to get it wherever Shrapnel products are sold.

On the topic of the new Ibanez 7 string RGs and whatnot, Guitar Center
has it for a grand, so I imagine that most retailers that carry Ibanez
products will have it at that price or less. But, supposedly the demand
for them is really high so I could be speaking complete bullshit and
there's no possibility of getting one for under the retail price. Oh
well. I have seen *new* Universes for $1399, though. Just so those of
you that are interested know. :) Speaking of Ibanez guitars, has anyone
seen the JPM100 with the new white and black color scheme anywhere?
Please email me if you have, especially if the place is around Boston.
:) And if anyone wants to buy *two* Yamaha Pacifica guitars from me at
an unbelievably *low* price, please mail me, too. :) Jeez, I sound like
a used car salesman. Bring in a tank, I'll sell the fuckin' thing! :)

Austin Powers is so friggin' funny that I farted out loud for all the
theater (yes, E-R!) to hear and smell. Some things are too hard to keep
in, ya know. (It smelt *way* gnarly. -Binky)

Austin Powers, a fartingly good time.

Well, that's all from me for now, kiddies. Partha, your tape is in the
    mail. Seeya!

Lay off the crack, dude. I didn't say anything about you. I brought up the information we have directly from the band, as I think it's more pertinent in this topic than anything a Warner rep may have to say.

    >And you're also right, somewhat. Exactly. Now lay off the caffeine. :)

I hope no one ever pays $1500 for a new Universe. Even on this heavy backorder, don't be THAT much of a pushover. :)

    > if these rg7's only have stock ibanez pickups, don't even >bother. the stock pickups i had on my rg550 sucked fat moose penis. you want >a guitar with dimarzios. i know you do.

On first listen, people who have their tone set to godly perfection on their amps are gonna WISH they had the tone of the 550 stock pickups anyways. It takes some heavy tweakin'. But as I already noted, both are dimarzios. If anyone has more time on their hands than I do, they might consider sending Ibanez an e-mail and asking them if there's a difference between the pickups on the UV and the RG, and if so to explain it.

I've been getting good reviews about this cd so I decided to post this again. My friend sang for a band called Zero Hour which released a CD in 1994. He's had them sitting around his house and told me if I wanted one I couljd have it. I took it home and listened to it and liked it so much I asked him if I could advertise them on the net and he agreed to give them free of charge to anyone who wants one. The only thing he asks is that you give an *honest* review of it, especially the vocals since he's the singer.

So here's the deal. If you'd like a CD then all you need to do is send me a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) to the below address and I send one right out to you.

For out of the USA types, just send a Self Addressed Envelope and $3US to cover shipping and I'll send it out to you. Like I said it has gotten some *really* good reviews and at FREE I would say the price is right. - Scott

That's the problem. Mississippi is the only state that is sorrier than Alabama. And besides, Auburn is going to kick Ole Miss' ass this weekend.

I heard a Strapping Young Lad song on the radio last week. I had no idea it was Devin Townsend until the announcer-type-person said the name of the group. I then proceeded to slap my forehead and chastise myself for not recognizing "that voice."

BTW, if anyone plays Heroes of Might & Magic 2, I'm working on a map. Hopefully it will be finished next week. Email me if you want a copy to play/test. It's gonna be better than many maps that I've downloaded from the various HoMM sites, or my name is Joey Buttafuoco.

And...Congraduations to Jazzmin! :) One day I'll finish college....

And also...if anyone has any Michael Burritt CD's, reviews would be appreciated. From what I understand, he plays progressive marimba.

And if Guitar School didn't suck enough already...they changed their name to "Maximum Guitar." At least now the magazine's name isn't guilty of falsely advertising to anyone who has played guitar for more than six months.

I decided to start a porno page because nearly every other page I've found on the web wants you to pay to access the files. Mine doesn't.

    http://www.twav.com/swifty/porno.htm

I plan on updating this page once a week, usually on Sunday night.

If you like it, let me know, so I don't get frustrated. When I move my page to my local server I'll have 10 Megs to play with, but until then, I'll have to make do with 2. C'est la vie.....

JPM100's and Universe's: I'll letcha know if I find one in Idaho Falls tomorrow. I'm gonna scoot on over to Chesbro, and since they warehouse and assemble their own Ibanez' there they might actually have some kewl stuff at decent prices. The repair shop next door's pretty rad since that's where I got my used RG570 for $400. :)

Johnny-boy: Also, anyone see the ad in the new Guitar magazine with John P. advertising the Rock N' Play thingies? It was toward the end of the mag. Couldn't believe the dude was wearing a GI Joe shirt. What a horsyhose. :) Anyone know who the kid in the Awake shirt aspiring to be Johnny boy is? You on the jam, dude? I think he was on the ACoS cover... BTW, what's the report on John's stint he had at that clinic? Is he OK?

Pickups: Anyone try running their 7-stringers through a good bass amp? I was wondering about the sound. Be careful of the high end, you don't want to blow the damn thing out, but the lows should come out nicely. That's all I've got and I run everything through it in moderation. Sure makes the Korg sound sweet. :)

    Greetings,

Well, it's been a while since there was a completely useless thread in the jam (many of you would dispute that) and I thought of one which you could all ignore...

Last night I decided to put Savatage's Dead Winter Dead in the cd player of my pc and play Quake, to see if the music was apt. And it was!

The first level of the first episode was Doesn't Matter Anyway, which really suits it, and in between levels it's This is the Time, which sounds extremely cool once you've finished a level.

Anyway, does anyone know of a cool metal album which sounds brilliant while playing Quake along with it? Do certain songs fit the levels that they come on at?

    Just curious...

    Lots of love Spiff

I managed to grab new TNT a few months ago. Its actually not half bad.... if it weren't TNT. Sniff sniff.... They've definately gone over the edge of pot enhanced alternative happy music. Sigh....there will always be the memories. I've also heard rumors floating around their clan that they're planning on kicking Tony out...again...what is this the fifth time now. Has anyone heard the Tony Harnell Morning Wood stuff ? According to Tony, he wants to do more music related to that project. Guess it must have something to do with the fact that he has completely lost his voice over the last two years ( so much for Don Lawrence techniques) heh heh I also grabbed the new Fates yesterday. It's definately a lot more musically mature then their older stuff. I think that if it were in a more masses friendly format, it might even have a chance doing decent in the US market. They seemed to have found a way to intergrate the present styles of music into their stuff just enough to make it tolerable to just about everyone who was in the house last night.

Chris sayeth: >perhaps it's just not the thing for you. When I listen to those parts, it's clear to me that it's not just a shredfest, or guitar wank-off. I think it takes some realistic degree of exposure to that kind of overdone guitar shred before on can really tell the difference. >

I didn't say it was a shredfest or guitar wank-off, Chris. As far as the metropolis passage in question, yes, I believe it *does* have some of those elements - mainly a severe inconsistency w/the rest of the song that doesn't seem to serve any particular purpose. But, after listening with more attention, I will say that that's not true for the whole passage.

I will also say this: If there's no other reason for something to be in a song, other then to 'wow' people, then I think it's out of place. This can be *a* reason, but shouldn't be the primary reason. By 'wow' I mean impress people with the level of technique apparent, not with "feeling".

This "feeling", which is whole point of music, waxes and wanes throughout the metropolis solo. One part in particular, right after the bass solo, comes to mind. This part does not seem to have a point. It could be erased from the song and I wouldn't care.

Another great example is a lot of the stuff in Under A Glass Moon. And that reminds me of my other defining element for this sort of demonstrative playing: In both songs, there's solos that are generically similar, not really relating to the song they're in. It's got this "insert generic DT riff here" sound to it.

There is much less of this on Awake. My favorite song is Voices, which, while very long and winding, is also very consistent, emotionally powerful, and *tight*. *And* it shows off their technical ability, which is also great.

Somewhere in the future, in my mom's basement, there's a half-done final painting with "C-" scrawled across it, because I got just a little sucked in and decided to write this Xtra-Long post.

Well, here's the skivvy on my trip to IF...

We went to Chesbro Music and they didn't have any Universes or 7-strings. I was actually quite pissed to see that they'd done away with their Korg distribution having only an i3 and an X5 that they're still trying to get rid of. Anyway, they DID have a JPM100, just not the black and white model but the original green and read, etc. model. I must say, that after playing it, I don't think I'll give up my RG570. The only thing that this guitar had over it was a thicker neck instead of the RG-Plank I've grown used to. :) I don't see why the crotch of people's jean turn a darker shade of blue when they hear about these things. I used to, but I'd never actually played one <g>. Anyway, the price they were charging was a pain-filled $1599. It said retail so I'm pretty sure that wasn't their price since they had a Frank Gambale model listed around $1200 reatil and on sale for $800. I would've asked but the only guy helping people was the drum rep so he didn't have a clue.

The high point was when I asked to try out the guitar and he plugged me into a No-Name Gorilla amp with a Ibanez Soundtank setup. So I asked him if I could actually try it out on something that sounded good, so the next best thing was a Crate (these guys aren't known for their cabs). :P It seems they gone drum-ho since my bud was over freaking about a bunch of Tama kits and beggared the guy into giving him his Mike Porntoy poster offa the wall.

Also at the bar across the street, a band by the name of Zero Tolerance was playing and sounded pretty nifty through the muffled brick wall. This name sounds familiar, anyone care to elaborate if I missed something kewl? (My bud's not 21, so we had to miss out). Anywho, if anyone's looking for a 1st run JPM100, I know where you can find one. I'm sure $1599 wasn't the price they were asking, but like I said, I'm not so sure. That price's a bit of overkill if ya ask me.

    Laterz!
