            Hi there.

            There's been so much about DVDs during the last days that I
    decided to find "official" information, to cut the bogus information to
    zero. There's a newsgroup called rec.video.dvd dedicated to DVD (obvious)
    and they have a FAQ at the following URL:

            <http://www.videodiscovery.com/vdyweb/dvd/dvdfaq.html>.

            Hope this is interesting for you, Roger...

    Talking about 7-string guitars...

    . Charlie Hunter plays this weird thing that has got 5 guitar strings and 3 bass strings, all on the same neck. The frets are not parallel with each other, which allows the upper frets to be wider apart than the ones at the bottom.

    . Some guy in the Boston area builds a 8-string guitar and a 7-string bass. I read that in some guitar magazine a year ago. Since I don't think I can afford one, I didn't keep that article.

    . ESP used to make 7-string guitars by order, I don't know if they still do. George Lynch had one or more, they had a high A instead of a low B.

    . Iba=F1es used to make other 7-string models, not just the Universe. A= friend of mine says he once saw a JS guitar with 7 strings. Anybody ever seen any of those?

    . Those 10-string Jacksons are pretty cool. I saw one at a store in Atlanta a couple years ago. Did anybody else besides Dan Spitz play one?

    . There's an instrument from my native Brazil called "viola", which has 10 strings and is tuned differently from a regular guitar. Just don't ask me how because I've never seen one.

    I know there's a lot of other things out there, like harp-guitars and other cool stuff, so pardon me 'cause I know I didn't mention but a fraction of the stuff there is out there.

    Me? I just got a Universe. It seems really dull compared to all this other stuff, doesn't it? :)

    oops. yea 1 string. It's hard to remember that when I've been missing a D string for four months now. Darn thing broke twice in two weeks.

    Oh yes i've been reading all the responses to my 5 string guitar question. I really feel stupid now. I hadn't slept in a week...don't know what I was thinkin. Remember mine DOES have 5 strings. (D string missing.)

    >>i don't think 1400 plus with a case ain't so bad (wondering what you pay for >>7 strings)

    Had no idear they would cost THAT much. of course i knew they'd cost a little more but $500 is more my budget. -- and I play acoustic, not electric...you know the kind with the hole in it. You're probably going to tell me now these aren't available with 7 strings, right?

    Personally, I think DT COULD and SHOULD tour with the Ryche. I know there are those that would disagree, but it makes sense to me.

    1. DT should finish recording in time to join up with QR before the tour launches on June 17th. That won't leave them much time to prepare, but they've already put on a few shows already so it shouldn't be too big a deal.

    2. This will give DT EXCELLENT exposure and a great promotion for the new album. People who have never heard DT may be surprised when they go see the Ryche show. DT could pull a good crowd of people who are already fans because these people still wanna hear the new material as well as see them live.

    Unfortunately there are some cons...

    1. The band's album won't be out for another 3 or 4 months after the tour begins and QR allows taping of their shows (don't they?). So DT will be subject also to taping by default, and that could be disaterous should any large scale boots be distributed even before their album hits the market.

    2. DT would be limited to a shorter set. Type O got about 45 minutes to an hour at the Boise show, so that basically means no ACoS, and any other rad, long songs. I think it'd be best for them to play a set of shorter songs at a concert like this anyway, because of a stigma that comes from the general populace when a song is greater than 5 minutes long.

    Anyway, the sacrifice of a shorter set needs to be made in an attempt to gain exposure to a larger audience. Also, if the new album sells well, what's to stop them from launching their own tour with say, Queensryche, opening for them? :) Time wouldn't be a great factor since they've got enough material for two albums that they could be in and out of the studio again, put on a great tour, and even have rest time at home all in 2 years time. (We want them to at least have some semblance of family life, I hope!)

    OK, Great show! The setlist was a little different but still a great show.

    Gone were: Time & Motion (no news there) The Big Money Subdivisions

    Only addition was Stick It Out from what I remember. Other Jammers there might remember better than me.

    Here's the setlist. All I did was take the original setlist and delete what was missing and add where I could remember.

    Dreamline Stick It Out Driven Half the World Red Barchetta Animate Limbo The Trees Virtuality Nobody's Hero Closer to the Heart 2112

    --break--

    Test For Echo Red Sector A Freewill Roll The Bones Resist Leave That Thing Alone drum solo Natural Science Force 10 The Spirit of Radio Tom Sawyer YYZ --> Cygnus X-1

    That's about it. The sets seemed to run the same as the last leg of the tour, about :160.

    >Personally, I think DT COULD and SHOULD tour with the Ryche. I know >there are those that would disagree, but it makes sense to me.

    The big problem is that QR is on the downward side as far a popularity goes. Even though I'd love to see DT I don't think this'll happen. BEsides if it could I wouldn't want it unless they could play a headline set. So I guess you could see how much chance their is of that happening.

    I'm a few jams behind right now, but Irene told me someone was asking how to get shirts on a recent jam. With finals and all I haven't had time to update the info, but I'll go ahead and repost the last update. It's mostly accurate except Medium shirts are now sold out, so only L and XL are left.

    Also, please make sure you're sending to my St Louis address and not my Columbia one. I'll only be here till Friday.

    I'll get back to updating and shipping once the semster is finished and things are settled in again at home. Thanks to everyone for their patience and support. There are still serveral dozen shirts remaining, lets see if we can get them out on the streets. :)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** new since last update * new in last two updates ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ** The semester is almost over, and in a couple of weeks I will be leaving ** Columbia and heading back to St Louis for the summer. I will continue ** to accept shirt orders, but I'm asking everyone to send them to my home ** address in St. Louis, since I can't guarantee my Columbia mail will be ** forwarded.

    After a lot of work, I managed to get all of my records in order, so this update is 100% accurate in regards to the numbers of shirts sold and remainging, etc...

    The XXL shirts are now sold out, and the XXXL shirts have been sold out since last week. There is still one Medium shirts, 6 Large, and 61 XL remaining.

    I did manage to make the money to make the final payment in time for the shirts. From this point on, the shirts will be going towards paying back my loan for the downpayment. Thanks again to everyone who has ordered, and all of you who plan to.

    I would just like to take this chance to thank everyone who has been so supportive of the shirts... It's nice to know that my work on this project is appriciated. And special thanks to Chris Hailey for the amazing artwork.

    ======== Web Page ========

    There is a web page online, complete with ordering instructions, facts and figures, comments on the shirts, actual scans directly off the shirts, a list of paid orders, and a mini FAQ. Check it out at:

    http://www.cclabs.missouri.edu/~c675311/ytsejam/

    ======= Details =======

    The Ytsejam shirts are two sided prints. The front of the shirt features a *full color* raytraced graphic from Chris Hailey in Washington. The graphic is a beautifully done scene with the Majesty logo floating behind a group of marble columns on a tile floor with a wide view of space visible behind.

    The back of the shirt is in a solid light blue color. The majority of the design is a huge Majesty logo, framed by the Dream Theater title at the top, the mailing list address on the sides and "Ytsejam" at the bottom. Below that is "Internet Mailing List" between two more Majesty logos.

    The current lot of shirts is 217 (they printed up more than I asked for, but I'm not complaining). If those run out, and demand is high enough, I may run another with a slightly different design.

    You can check out all of the details, as well as a preview of the shirts at: http://www.cclabs.missouri.edu/~c675311/ytsejam/

    Please note: Due to some legal issues, the University will no longer allow me to keep this commercial advertisement on their server. To sidestep this issue, Chris Merlo was kind enough to put the page up on his account. Please go to the URL above and follow the link to the new site.

    ======= Pricing =======

    The cost of the shirts is $16 each. The shirt is damn close to concert quality, so $16 is a steal (last Dream Theater concert I was at charged $23 for a shirt!). If you require a size larger than XL, please let me know ASAP so I can get those orders in. There is an additional $1 charge for each size increase (ie. XXL = $17). If you are picking the shirt up from me directly the $16 price stands. If you can't get the shirt in person, you can order one through the mail for $20 to cover shipping.

    I spoke with the people at the post office and I've decided to set the shipping prices outside the USA at $9, for a total of $25. I realize this is damn expensive for a tshirt, and I'm sorry. If individual prices are signifigantly less expensive, I will gladly return a check for the balance.

    The rundown: M, L or XL shirt, picked up: $16 M, L or XL shirt, mailed in the US: $20 M, L or XL shirt, mailed outside the US: $25

    ============ Availability ============

    Size: Sold: Reserved: Remaining: Total: ----- ----- --------- ---------- ------ M 4 0 1 5 L 32 0 6 38 XL 85 0 61 146 XXL 24 0 0 24 XXXL 4 0 0 4 ------ ----- --------- ---------- ------ Totals 149 0 68 217

    ======== Ordering ========

    The shirts are open to mail ordering now. Mail orders will be shipped out every Wednesday via Priority Mail for US orders, and airmail for all others. Checks and money orders will be cashed before the order goes out, most likely on Monday. So far, mail orders have gone well, the only problem I have had has been with the bank, not the post office, so don't worry about your orders. All US orders are insured for the amount paid for the shirts and shipping, and insurance on airmail depends on the country and other aspects.

    To order, send a check or money order for the proper US dollar amount (see pricing above) to:

    Pat Griffin 6581 Bradley Ave <-- Note the change of address! St. Louis, MO 63139

    Make them payable to Pat Griffin, and remember this in US dollars.

    Be sure to include: Your name. Email address. Mailing address. Phone number. Quantity of shirts you want to order. The size of each. Whether this order is for pickup for mail order.

    I will keep you up to date on the status of the shirts through email.

    Over the weekend, someone broke in to my home. They took my entire CD collection.

    Much of it is probably impossible to replace (original Subcon, original Acoustic Dreams prototype, Fan Club CD), and much of it will be very hard to replace in the UK (Lemur Voice, Superior, Jason Becker, etc).

    And my Silent Man and Lie singles, and my Jap import of Awake . . .

    What really pisses me off is not the fact that they cost me x pounds or dollars or whatever, but that these wonderful CDs will probably just go to waste lying in the corner of some dickhead's bedroom or being sold for a pittance at some dodgy street stall.

    None of it was insured either :-(

    I am depressed.
