I was at school today and I got bored so I went to the computer lab and
decided to look at the 'ole unoffical Dream Theater songbook, and I noticed
that DT has covered some Tori Amos songs (I knew that Kev Mo had, but not
DT). Anyways, I told this girl I know that loved Tori that MY favorite
band has covered Tori Amos songs, and she said she really wanted to hear
em. Anyways, I dont have Subconcious or Antiquities (i think those are the
two boots that were mentioned) so of course she cant hear em. In any case,
if anyone has an extra copy of either of these boots lying around (yeah
right) or if anyone would be willing to make me a tape or CD-R copy of one
or both of these discs i would greatly appreciate it.

    >favorite band, I thought it would be fitting to write a little parody based

    hehehe,
That was pretty cool. And in the same spirit, I'd like to offer the following:

The karate kid (dressed in black) enters the smokey Mississippi blues club to
cut heads with Vai. He nervously walks on stage and picks up his Jimie Hindrix
signiture model stratocaster. The band starts up, and Vai starts playing some
mean blues licks on his Ibanez. When he finnishes, the crowd looks expectantly
at the kid in black, who pulls out a slide and plays an equally mean dose of
blues licks. Vai nods and replies to him, "not bad kid, but before I step down,
there is something you should know.... I'm not left handed." He takes off his
jacket and picks up Jem, then begins hellaciously burning through the wildest
alternate picking passages that this Mississippi croud has ever heard. The kid
in black looks down humbly, but instead of admiting defete, he anounces that he
is not left handed either. And after swapping the strat for a right handed
telly, he starts fingerpicking through an unbelevable apegiated progression,
ending with a bent A off the telly's neck pickup. Vai furriously fumbles through
a similar arpegiation, but to his horror, he realizes that the humbucker isn't
smooth enough to substitute for a 28th fret, maybe he should have had a washburn
that day. The swede, defeted, throws down his guitar, and surrenders the stage
to the kid, who after jamming with the old guy with the harmonica, runs off to
    face the Jazz cat.

    >Ummm, Hellfuckinglo??
    <more comments snipped>

I was the one who originally posted the review, and it included comments
    like:
"The singer was very talented - he was also a great keyboardist and decent
guitarist". I said "The drummer was pretty good". I mentioned the
guitarist's unorthodox style. I didn't mention the bassist. And I mentioned
how many of the songs had *great* melodies interspersed, and that I was
    really
getting into "The Official Live Bootleg" and "Beware of Darkness", and that
the song "The Light" kicks ass. I also said they were definitely worth
    checking out.

In other words, you are ranting against someone who agrees with you. Try not
to be so quick to jump all over a piece of quote taken out of context..

Neil, I do apologize I did not see your original review. Taken out of
context, it seemed like you were being sarcastic and saying that the rest
of Spocks sucked. Sorry about that. I guess Scott took that as ammunition
to tell me to fuck off for not saying hello. Hope I didn't hurt your
feelings Scott- but like I said I didn't see your 'jam shirt and am a
little on the shy side myself even if I had seen it... Peace

Okay, here's a quick thought, why does everyone want to hate a
mainstream band? I mean, I personally don't like No Doubt's music, but I
respect them as musicians and human beings. I mean, they're not as
talented as Dream Theater, but they're not exactly Sonic Youth either.
Related topic: Why do people see a need to rag on Gwen Stefani? Her
voice is not that bad, actually it's pretty good IMO. Is it because it's a
woman making headway (excuse the perverse pun ;) in a predominantly
male-populated genre? I dunno, but unless there's some good basis to rag
on No Doubt (such as the overused Aerosmith-knockoff riffs), why do it?
As far as her getting an acting career, who knows, maybe it's always
been a dream of hers to be an actress, and a mainstream band was the
easiest way to get noticed and break into showbusiness. Kinda dumb to piss
on somebody's face for following their dream, huh?

    Jus' some thoughts.

That would mean you walked in front of me too. I can't believe I didn't
notice!! I was probably pissed because someone blocked my view of the band
;).. Interesting that you really dug the opening band. I thought their

    Message-ID: <01BC60D2.D8CF6380@ns.globalxs.nl>

On the last digest, I said :

    > Oh, and buy Marillion's new brilliant album "This Strange Album" !

Of course that should be "This Strange Engine", just checking if
anyone's paying attention. It *is* a strange album, though, for
      the following reasons :

      * Instead of Steve Rothery (guitars), Mark Kelly (keyboards) is
the most dominating musician on this album. This one has some
of his best work to date !

      * The title track is over half an hour. The last 15 minutes is
probably the most boring stuff they've ever recorded. Silence !

      * After the silence Steve Hogarth starts laughing like a freaking
maniac, while Mark Kelly is playing piano. This piano part will
be the intro for their first single, out next week in Europe.

On the Japanese version, the silence is replaced by two bonus
tracks (acoustic versions of Made Again and Beautiful).

      * And then there's a song called "Hope For The Future". Marillion
themselves call this "Gloria Estefan on acid" :-) A typical
        "fun-track".

      * Beware of the psycho alien kids choir on the opening track !
This song also has a part where Steve's voice fades into a
synth sound... Betcha won't be able to tell exactly where one
ends and the other starts... Pretty nifty stuff...

"I took a leap and I landed on the mooooooooooooooooooooooon"

      * Also, this has to be the first album in history for which the
promo was made AFTER the album's release. Leave it up to yet
ANOTHER record company to fuck things up.

      * "TSE" has eight brilliant songs on it. Ok, that part isn't
strange... but enough reason for you to check it out :-)

If you're interested in some samples, try the news section of
the official Marillion site "The Web Online" --->

                          http://www.marillion.com

And after that, follow Marillion's Warm Web Circle to discover
some pretty cool Marillion and Fish sites :-)

Btw, Fish (ex-Marillion) will be releasing his long awaited
album "Sunsets On Empire" next week, in Europe (19th) ! Steve
Wilson from "Porcupine Tree" co-wrote most of it, and also
plays on this album. All the more reason to check this one out
too :-) Samples can be found on the official Fish site,
      "Wilderness of Mirrors" --->

                          http://www.livjm.ac.uk/fish/

Sorry... No DTC again, but there are enough Marillion fans on
this list to justify this shameless plug :-)

Ps. I'll try not to shove Marillion down your throats like I
          did last year :-)

I think JLB's problem isn't with his voice, I think it's with his
stage presence. Arguing with the audience can be kinda bad. All we
need is another Axl Rose in our favorite band... :P His voice is
supreme, though, and that's all that matters to me. I agree that
people are mor mesmerized by the players, but average people don't
study them so much. They watch the singer because he "fronts" the
band. I think Geoff was the epitome of activity during the PL tour.
He actually did some lame acting that kept your attention focused on
the concert a bit. We'll see after the next tour though. We haven't
given the guys enough time to mature.

Me neither. I get a very high output with my Evolution but I can
crank and not worry so much about feedback. The only problem is that
I have to tone the DSP volumes in the Digitech or else they carry too
high an output through it and cause some unwanted distortion. They
sound damn great (The Evolution, the PAF Pro, and the Fast Track)

The key trick I've noticed about the floyd rose is not to tighten the
head nuts for about a day after you restring it. It gives the
strings time to release a bit of tension and you will likely have to
tune it up again the next day, then it should be OK to tighten up as
long as you don't have to tune it severely. Ever since I started
doing this, my 'nez see,s to never go out of tune. At least not
until the gunk that build up on the strings weighs them down. :) I
dunno, it works for me, even with my Lo Pro Edge, Madz. :)

Shadow Gallery's first one remind me of orchestrated "Europe" for
some reason. Yah, "The Final Countdown" band. Say Goodbye to the
Morning rokz some serious nadz in the Crystalline Dream vein, tho. I
recommend it, just don't expect Carved in Stone again. :)

A marine biology teacher at my school (Miami, FL) is a luthier. He
makes beautiful 6, 7 and 8 string guitars with odd tunings. Vintage Guitar
    wrote an article about him.
Has anyone seen or heard of the guy (forgot his name) who plays a 4
string electric mandolin. Gibson makes his mandolins, which look like mini
Explorers. Classiscal composers and violists influenced this guy. I saw him
jamming on stage with Yngwie Malmsteen at a clinic. SOME SERIOUS SHREDDING!

YES, for the umpteenth time, Derek Sherinian appears in "Wayne's World,"
during the part where Wayne and Garth meet Alice Cooper backstage.

I don't have a website, but if you go see "The 5th Element" you'll get an
idea of how I think. This is the sort of stuff I'd love to do. (not
    Leeloo, the movie)

Anyone else here going to see Queensryche at the Gorge in June? Has their
    tour already started?

Well last weekend I received in the mail "Scenes From A Memory" and
"Precious Things." "Scenes" is one of the titles that was entered into the
pot for Mike Bahr's first DT compilation, which went on to be titled
"Subconscious." (don't put that in the FAQ, D. and good luck rolling away
the stone!) The cover art on these discs is wild, kudos to Dark Star
wherever he may be! I'd already heard several of the things on these
discs, but this recording medium raises the clarity of everything which is
    always nice.

So far out of the two compilations I enjoy PT more because of all the live
recordings. Plus I finally got to hear "Raise The Knife," which I can now
verify to the entire list as NOT being "Barfbag." No barfbags here. None.

Bring in a tank, I'll barf the fuckin' thing!

    "Chee-kan. Good."
