Right, The Gathering is one of Hollands most interesting progressive rock bands
of the moment !!! "Mandylion" was very passionating ...
The new album should have been released this week (12th of May) in Belgium, but
I did not have the chance to hear it yet !...
If somebody likes it even more than "Mandylion", that is really promising !!!!

This Strange Engine is my favorite from them for quite some time and should be discussed on the jam, just not religiously. If you like Shadow Gallery, you will probably like this a lot too.

This is fast becoming one of my favorite CDs ("Divine Wings.."). Buy this NOW, think about it later !! Hard sounds and creative. Maybe somewhat like if you took the 50% harder sounding DT songs and put it on a disk (??) Definitely no JP on guitar, but so what. Nobody is. Quite Highly Recommended.

Ugh. Wrong. Stage presence is definitely a significant part of the live experience. The visual experience, which includes stage presence, is what differentiates a live show form sitting in front of your Woodstock sized speakers in the confines of your home.
Think about it. If JM dressed in pink tights and waltzed around the stage blowing kisses to the audience, would it be the same ?? (Too bad that panty-sniffing clown from Binghamton is temporarily off the jam and wont be able to give his two cents on this idea ......)

With all the speculation about opening bands for QR, does anyone know when the tour starts/how far into the tour is July 11 when they hit ALpine Valley? Bahr CDs I've never really cared about the sound quality of the CDs (though better is better), I really think the $25 is worth it for the fact that the versions are rarities and the benefits of CD use and resiliancy (sp?) over tape. Apparently, optimization doesn't occur overnight. The thing I like about Derek is he brings some of that basic keyboard rawness back that seemed to have left the farther they progressed towards Awake. Not that there was anything fundamentally wrong with the sound.
I guess I like rough, raw, in your face keys as much as any other kind. Lines in the Sand immediately comes to mind. The other members seem to be feeding off of this SOUND. Several have mentioned the members appearing happier on stage lately. Maybe Derek is helping to contribute to this. This is a good thing.

I own only his first solo album, but I have heard all of the Nitro material (and HIGHLY recommend not buying it) and his new solo album. His first solo album is filled with the kind of shred that makes you not want to be a guitarist anymore... for a multitude of reasons. For some, it's that you know that there's no way you'll be able to pick that fast and do all that string skipping the way he does it with what seems like NO transition times between position shifts. Man... I don't know how that movie could be considered bad. Maybe if you treated it like it had any form of realism... then okay... Anyone get the Metropolis similarity in that movie? The 5th element had to be present in between all the other elements in order to save the world. Well, they said if one of the evil beings was in the middle of the four elements, the planet would be destroyed utterly... the evil beings were a representation of hate. Then when Bruce Willis and LeeLoo were in the center of the circle, (LeeLoo being the 5th element, supposedly) nothing happened until he said "I love you." Perhaps the 5th is Love. Love is the 5th Element.
As much as some people knock LaBrie for these supposed bad live performances, and as much as I like Dominici, there's no comparison in terms of quality live. The fact is, I haven't heard a live Dominici performance that sounded good, and I haven't heard a LaBrie performance that was altogether bad. That's just me, of course...

Well,let me tell ya something more. IMO,what Mike Vescera brought to Yngwie was his pop melody style. The songs on "The Seventh Sign" album are rich in pop feeling,don't you think that? But he couldn't sing on "Magnum Opus" album very well,especially the song "No Love Lost", it's horrible. What the hell!
And Yngwie recruited Mats Levin (Ex-Swedish Erotica,Treat) as the new vacalist,and will release his new album in September.

Yes! I like them,too. They released 3 studio albums ("Land Of Broken Hearts","Clown In The Mirror" and "Moving Target") and 3 e.p.s("The Maxi Single","Faraway" and "Message To The God") and 1 double live album (titled "1996" and video version). The first 3 releases ("LOBH","TMS" and "CITM") were fronted by original vocalist (Henrick Blockman),but he left the band,and new guy (D.C.Cooper the one of the guy who couldn't become Judas Priest singer,the same category of Ralph Sheepers,Tony Mills etc...). The first release with him was the charity single "Far Away" (for the victim of earthquake in Japan). He really did good job. But most important guy in this band is the keyboardist as well as songwriter, Andre Andersen. he's nice,too. I think he's great as KM (maybe some of you wants to tell about this. but this is my opinion.). Well,the best offering from them is their double live album "1996",most of their hits are on it. So give them a chance. You'll not be dissapointed. Small notes: I was on the back jacket of "1996" album.
Anyway.If they play at your local area,GO!!!! They're doing well what they want to do, and none of other bands can't do taht as much as RH are doing.

I saw Vescera on stage here in Portugal and I like it very much. He is a simple guy and it seems very nice.

The guy from 7th is M. Vescera, Goran Edman is the singer on 'Eclipse' and 'Fire & Ice'.
Of corse I Like all of them. Joe Lynn Turner is better on Blues, Ballads and songs like 'Pictures Of Home' (Deep Purple song that is covered on 'Inspiration' you must hear it)
What is your opunion about R. Sheepers? Do you know him?

Since I am leaving for the summer, I just thought I'd thank all you jammers out there. And I've also been introduced to some cool bands. I wish I could afford to buy stuff from them all, but that will take a few years. See you all in the fall.
