You can't be serious? I think the majority of people on this list like
him as the lead singer. He has got a great voice. Sure sometimes he
doesn't sound too great in concert. Singing day after day on a lengthy
tour takes it's toll on a lead singer. The times I have seen him (3 x) he
has been great.

WOW!!!! I thought I was the only person who knew these guys! INNER
STRENGTH I mean. They are an awesome Long Island prog-metal band with
amazing chops. I only know of "Shallow Reflections" (its an import in
the Dream Disc catalog) but I read someone who had more material..are
you here???
Anyhow, being a Long Islander I've seen them a bunch of times at the
Roxy in Huntington (is that place still around??) and they were great!
My friend saw them open for DT in Deer Park (in '92 I think??) and said
their set was cut short because they were TOO good. INNER STENGTH came
out playing the Muppets theme song and then totally rearranged it into a
psycho prog-metal version of it..I heard it on tape and its insane!!!
I havent heard anything about these guys in ages..are they living in
Europe now because of their record deal or what?? If anyone else knows
about these guys speak up..they're awesome!!
cheers,
Carlo (aka Fates, aka YtseSatan)

g'day dave and rest of jam. :)
> >Rip, an old "cliche" for you: "two wrongs dont make a right" >
i'm quite a believer in this, and i'd been trying to explain the right against the wrong for a while, i came to then this decision which i stated with:
> i've been bitching it out for a long time, i figured taking the > opposite turrent and putting some firepower may at least kick a > few balls and put a smile on my face, if anything ;)
therefore i dont condone that my actions were right or they were supposed to make anything right to any effect.
>I ESCPECIALLY don't see any reason why ragging on another certain >singer as a defense is going to help anything.
its definately not, but like i said, i was just, to put it simply, being a bastard and having fun doing it :)
> I'd like to be able to >see the Jam as a place where we give them each credit.
i actually promised myself a while back i'd never post my feelings on labrie to the jam, because i understand what you just said exactly. i never wanted to slag him, especially in front of public forum, on a list in dedication to DT. so why'd i do it?.. failure to handle a sudden jolt of anger? entertainment value? a slap in the face to the hypocrisy of everything? i guess a little bit of everything. the people i intended to piss off were not those such as dave, who has a totally clear mind and is one of my favorite dudes to read posts from and what not.. which is why i'm up here sorting this out :) i'll click into rational mode for a second and remind everyone to make sure they can take what they dish out. and make sure ya dont take it too seriously. i'd always wanted to see someone slag james like charlie gets slagged, and when it happened, and the revolt came, i decided to back it up with my thoughts. and if i could go back in time, i'd do it again :)
my kudos (and meat kadus) to dave for being one of the few i've had a rational debate with here.
as the jam turns,

The music should speak for itself. If you need to rely on a frontman, than something is seriously wrong. If you want to be entertained by stage antics, turn on a T.V. DT is composed of musicians. When was the last time you saw the conductor of the London Philharmonic sachet across the stage in pink tights?!!

They'll release their 4th album titled "Believe" on 25th May. I've already heard couple songs from this opus on radio. Those songs are incredible---melodic hard rock with high-tone vocalist.
I'd also like to sing the praises of Harem Scarem. They are, hands down, the best band I have "discovered" since DT and they definitely make my top 6 favorite band list. They're all great musicians and the vocals use amazing harmonies. I can't say enough good things about this band. The only full album I have by them is their 2nd effort "Mood Swings," which reminds me a lot of "Pornograffitti"-era Extreme without sounding like rip-offs, but somone made me a mix that covers the three full length albums and the Live & Acoustic thing they put out and these guys are flawless. As soon as I get a job over the summer I am going to make it my mission in life to order all their stuff, plus the new one. If you like hard rock, even a little bit, take a risk and order an album. You'll be glad you did.
Richie
P.S. For the record they have 4 full-length albums out thus far (not counting the new one). They are:
Harem Scarem- self-titled. Great AOR -"Mood Swings." Read the above drooling -"Voice Of Reason." Probably the most "prog" out of the three, but is overall a little darker than the rest. Reminds me a little of King's X -"Live In Japan." I think it was recorded on the "Voice Of Reason" tour * They also have a release called "Live & Acoustic" which is collection of, gasp, live and acoustic stuff.

Whats up Jammers,
Just wanted to pass on a quick review of the newest CLOCKWORK ep "Search" that I got a few days ago. I remember first hearing about these guys on the Jam for their excellent 28-minute epic "Weaving Webs of Time" demo and was pleasantly surprised to find out about the new release. They were also on that DREGS prog compilation disc and were easily the best band on there; the rest were kinda lame IMHO. The new one "Search" has plenty of those harmonized guitar leads, keyboard guitar duels, super talented bass and percussion work that I was so fond of on "Weaving Webs......." plus some really amazing new arrangements that had me replaying solo after solo. There are a couple of parts where the acoustic guitars come out of nowhere and start playing these great leads sounding very "Cynic"-esqe (where every instrument is doing its own thing!!)..I thought I was listening to "Textures" by CYNIC at one point! These guys pull off some mind-boggling stuff! The new singer is definitely the best one they've had yet. Really interesting phrasing, especially on the first song "Painting Portraits". Ending has some really cool vocal harmony work similar to SAVATAGE's "Chance". Song also has endless riffing (ala HELSTAR, PSYCHOTIC WALTZ) that I loved. For an independent release the production is pretty good. Finally a good mix where I can hear all those intricate ride patterns I drool all over for. I wish I was a musician because I KNOW that there's a lot more going on in the music than I can describe. Basically, CLOCKWORK shreds their asses off! I can only imagine how many other talented independent progressive bands are out there that have all this talent but no label support. Hope these guys get signed soon because they are too good to pass up. I got the cd for $8 from their web page (pretty cool site too!). Highly recommended for any fan of technical, creative, progressive metal. Check 'em out at: http://www.netti.fi/~japi/
Happy listening!
cheers, Carlo

> Rip, an old "cliche" for you: "two wrongs dont make a right"
I prefer "Two opinions don't make a fact." There's nothing wrong about what Rip did. It's just an opinion. I'm sure James LaBrie can handle it. So can Charlie. I don't think either of them read this list anymore anyways, since there's usually little content anyways. :)
> It pisses me off to see anyone ragging on EITHER of them > in the Jam. Both vocalists have done something special for > us, and how are some people repaying them? By slinging shit > about them in a place where they are defenseless.
They repay them by buying the albums. If they don't like the albums, they have the right to say so. If they do like the albums, they have the right to defend the vocalists. Let's not limit freedom of speech. So long as it's done in a semi-respectful manner, why not allow someone to voice his or her opinions? > I respect your opinion, and I know you have a right to say it. > I guess I just wish people would talk about the more positive > feelings they have about the band members here.
I'm glad we don't limit this list to positive things only. I'm glad people speak their minds, as long as they're not being assholes (i.e. attacking members of the list, or cursing out band members and not explaining what they don't like). > Well, describing Watchtower is very hard. Maybe you know the band INNER > STRENGTH, but they are not so complex as Watchtower!
Hmm. I disagree. Inner Strength sounds nothing like Watchtower to me. I only bring this up because I think Watchtower might be EXTREMELY hard for some people to dig... and might be right up a few of your alleys.
Watchtower's _Control and Resistance_:
Imagine James LaBrie with his throat ripped out, singing some out there "conspiracy" based lyrics in wierd keys over the solo to Metropolis. They get that out there. This is something that you need to hear before buying! (though I dig it. Amazing musicianship)
> Watchtower played a kind of music that could be decribed as "Jazz- > Metal".
Again, I disagree, but nothing personal. They go from a heavy metal Rush to the middle of Metropolis... that's how I'd put it. Feel free to disagree though. :)
> Or is it something to do with the fact she's a female in a rock band? A > few months ago, the "cool" thing for jammers to do was to rag on Alanis > Morissette. Now it's Gwen Stefani. Is this a trend or something? > Personally I like any band that has an attractive female singer...
Poppycock. Don't turn it into a sex issue. The only thing that amuses me about that band is that weird vibrato she has... and how and why she does it. I can dislike the music without singing praise to my penis, and it's insulting that people would try and make it seem otherwise.

I think if the band reads this, they might actually appreciate things like this in the long run. I mean... it's not often that a hard core fan of a band will say anything more than "Gah! You're James LaBrie!" I know I would take things like this seriously, and probably wouldn't be insulted. If I play for someone and he or she says "You should have ended that last lick with a minor sweep that slides up to a sweep in the relative major." I would probably stop and take the time to learn the idea and see if I liked it better.

It's supposed to mean lay off the caffeine. You're going a bit psycho over an argument that obviously could have been disintegrated if you had kept a level head, instead of sounding like an asshole.

I think he's proven himself to have a better grasp of the English language than the majority of this list. Grasping at straws?

This is why I responded to this message. Self Martyrdom is a pretty pathetic thing. If you think he's wrong, attack his argument, like an adult. Maybe you're a tad over"fucking"sensitive?

That's not entirely fair... but then, you've never been called a fair man. :)
There is some truth to the statement (though I don't know how much... how many out of work people have cable?). Think about it: when glam was in, it was mainly kids getting into the music... get home from grammar school or high school right in time for (what was it called...) Hard 30 or Hard 60 or whatever the lame name of the show was. They played it right when people would be getting home from school, not work. Headbanger's ball: Not on during work hours. It was on about when most high school age kids would be getting back from parties and stuff. This type of thing is taken into account when they choose the broadcast times.
