     Hi there,

I am very interested in how anyone could consider Dark Tranquillity a My Dying
Bride rip-off. I think it's probably the worst comparison (well, *one* of the
worst) anyone could make. Dark Tranquillity is a lot more like At The Gates
(screaming vocals, fast thrash, high musical talents), not at all like My Dying
Bride (grunt and doomey vocals, slow doom, good groove but no musical wizards).
The lyrics are both grade A, that's about the only thing they have in common
    IMO.
Both My Dying Bride and Dark Tranquillity have nothing to do with Black Metal
a la Dimmu Borgir, Cradle, Emperor, etc.
By the way, I dig black metal *and* Dark Tranquillity *and* My Dying Bride a
lot. Is there a chance you may have mixed up Dark Tranquillity with another
    band in your mind?

     Keep cool,

Well, assmonger, you can start by getting my name right! :) I think there's more than one asshole on the Jam. But that's not the point. Just because I'm an asshole doesn't mean I can't call other people assholes too! Besides, I prefer to be called a "fuckfuck".

BTW, I hate to admit this, but even though I'm a Leaf fan, and find that "HOCKEYTOWN" thing to be rather obscene, I've reduced myself to pulling for your Murder City Dead Things this round. :) They won't win, but I really don't want the Avs to win the cup this year (they have such a deep organization, and so many draft picks stockpiled that they could possibly build a dynasty that would match the 70's Montreal Canadiens teams).

Well, considering he completely misunderstood my argument, I would disagree with you there. In fact, he flamed me in response to my message, and then he essentially made the exact same point that I was making. You have to be a pretty big dumbass to do that.

    >> And after all, *I'M* one of the few on this list who's defended No >> Doubt, Alanis, and other bands that are taboo on this list. > >Oh, and we do appreciate it. Your red badge of courage is in the >mail.

Hey stupid, obviously the point I was making in that sentence flew way fucking over your head. If you had a brain, you would realize that it's these same people like this guy who brand me as "closed minded" for liking LTL, TTT, and Metropolis that bash Alanis and No Doubt. Isn't it a bit hypocritical to flame someone for being closed minded. I mean, even if I was closed minded, expecting everyone in the world to be open minded is just as closed minded as anything else. If that makes any sense. Anyway, I don't need you fucking hypocrites... WOOOOOOOHHHHOOOOOO!!!!!

    >> They're my fucking favourite DT songs and that's all there fucking is to >> it. So go shove your attitude up your ass where it belongs, you fucking > > Yeah... go fucking fuck a fucker you fuckfuck!

    > This is why I responded to this message. Self Martyrdom is a >pretty pathetic thing. If you think he's wrong, attack his argument, like >an adult. Maybe you're a tad over"fucking"sensitive?

His argument didn't make any sense, because he was supporting my argument. I was attacking the fucking flames and the fucking stupidity in his message by fucking lowering myself to his fucking level, which at times is the only fucking thing one can fucking do to make a fucking point, ok? Besides, fuckers like him really fucking make me fucking sick! Besides, being a martyr is cool. Kurt Cobain was a fucking martyr man...

I have trouble listening to much of what I call Black Metal. The clear vocal parts are usually very good, but a lot of the fast stuff just sounds noisy. It's like... take a fast blast beat, mix in a lot of midrange guitar and high bass and a growl that sounds like something from the Hobbit. It just tends to get very noisy to me, very quickly. There are many exceptions. I would be interested to see where you would place Arcturus (i.e. in which genre). Their guitarist is pretty much the most impressive player I've heard from what I would consider Black Metal.

I wanted to second (third?) the positive reviews of the new Clockwork CD. Very cool stuff! I'm sure quite a few of the Ytsejammers out there would appreciate the CD. The music is full of good dynamics and rhythm changes. The guitar work is superb and I love their use of keyboards (reminding me a bit of DT or Superior). I also enjoy the vocals quite a bit. The band is based out of Pennsylvania (near Philly I think). You can get more info on their web page:

    http://www.netti.fi/~japi

Or, you can send email to: st96d6z4@dunx1.ocs.drexel.edu to contact band member Anthony Sciamanna. I got my CD through him. He was prompt about sending it out after getting my check.

The CD is only $8 and is definitely worth trying.

    Hi there

I read in the may 97 GuitarWorld that they did overdubs on the G3 live album. They also said that this was not unusual on live records. I didn't know this before, so I wonder is this done on LAtM and the live parts on ACoS?

The guys in Dream Theater should be able to play this good live... I have never seen them live, but I have noticed that the vocals are better on LAtM than they are on the IAW video. And the live vocals on ACoS are very much better.

    Also check out my homepage:

Guh, I can't find that CD. I have one of their songs (in the desert of set) or something like that. It's so hard to find stuff here in VA, U.S.A. I was lucky to find a Cradle of Filth CD.

Dani's got a pretty powerful voice for his small frame. Supposedly live he can keep all that up throughout the show. And yall thought James LaBrie was tough?

How is that? Maybe I've overlooked a rule for the jam but, I don't see anything too controversial about the story itself, besides the shirt...Nevertheless the kid broke some law that was made back in 1700 or something in England that had some kind of religious influence. In other words, they tried to nail the kid with whatever law that they could find. It's all so pathetic. Of course you probably won't find me wearing a Cradle of Filth shirt with a picture of a nun on it. :)

Hi all ! This is my first post, so try not to destroy me just yet. I just have a few thoughts about the discussion going on about James La Brie and his vocals. I think music should be like reading books or viewing art. You should judge the end product produced by the author/band/artist, and not be concerned with judging them on their actions in real life. Flame me if you want, but ACOS is the only tape I own with live music on it. The only concert I've ever been to was DT (Rocky Point Paladium, Mass. - IAW tour). I loved it, but only because it was DT. Consequently, I couldn't care less about JLB's live vocals and stage presence. I'd rather have DT never go on tour, and just keep cranking out killer tracks every six months or so. Just my opinion, feedback is welcome. Since that will never happen, the discussion about JLB is valid. The band will never be as big as they could be if they don't have a frontman that will make new fans join and old fans return. Hence the "What if.." about a replacement. My personal pick? Try not to laugh -> Bruce Dickinson (formerly of Iron Maiden). He's got the high-end capabilities, as well as the low-end growl. He's also good with lyrics and would fit in pretty well with the band's trend toward heavier material. Stage presence and live vocals - I haven't a clue. Has anyone seen him live? Personally, I think JLB is great, since I only listen to studio-quality stuff, but it is fun to wonder sometimes 'What if?' so Bruce would get my vote. Feel free to discuss or flame any of these ideas. I enjoy a spirited argument now and again!
