I can confirm this. They do hold some unofficial record for
    extreme volume.

Do you (or does anyone) really think it's that simple? I'm
curious. I mean I know it's helpful to be able to categorize, but I think
the interests on this list can't be pigeonholed into that corner. When I
started liking DT, I already liked death metal, neoclassical, prog, cock
rock, rock n roll, blues, fusion, classical and pop to name a few... And
I'm not unique in that respect here.
I think it's a lot harder to classify all of the members of this
list (and DT fans in general) into two categories like that. I think the
diversity of these tastes leads to the bickering and problems to an extent
as well. If you list your favorite music, and someone knocks you for it,
you're not usually going to be happy about it. Likewise, when people say
"The Spice Girls are the best band in the world. That weird looking one
with the spike through her head can outshred Petrucci!", it tends to piss
    people off.

Food for thought. I think this would all be solved if people just
respected each other more, and stopped making absolute statements about
who is better than who musically (not technically. That can be factually
determined). But as I said before... this has been attempted, and it
doesn't stick... we can keep trying...

    > And now I'm gonna learn how to play the guitar. :)

Anyone looking for guitar lessons/tips/help, can e-mail me.
Actually, we should get a group of Ytse players together, because we have
a LOT of talented musicians that can give advice/help/lessons over e-mail.

Actually, I don't think they played it on request. 98 Rock had
"Pull me Under" on its playlist when it first came out, and so I guess it
    occasionally still gets played.

I saw 'em live in Malmv, Sweden a few weeks ago. SOOOOOOOOOOO heavy. Also very tight. I couldn't believe my ears. At the end of "A Thousand Lies" they played in what seemed like 20-30 bpm!!! it's really slow on the album but this was _slow_.

Btw, Napalm Death also played there and I saw this guy in the audience with a DT t-shirt but didn't bother saying hello to him. Know who it was? The singer in Napalm Death... :) I'm glad I didn't start a conversation with him in swedish.

    >it wasn't bad humor, it was dark humor; black humor;

    Bad Metal ;)

A question related to this Metal-thread. What does "Roots" count as? (the album that is) It's a bit death metal, but it's also much more. It's heavier than death metal and it hasn't got any satanic lyrics that I know of. (I have a boot version that I bought really cheap on a holiday in Bulgaria.)

The five best metal vocalists editet:

(my VERY HUMBLE opinion again, of course)

JLB (no comment) Ian Guillan ("child in time" - man) Phil Anselmo (This man has feelings, putting Jaymz here was a mistake) Chris Cornell (if this counts as metal, i would say "bad motorfinger" does) Sammy Hagar (believe it or not)

Song of the day: "Cemetery Gates" - Pantera

He's not boasting about what he'll GET. He's boasting about what he's CREATING. The creative process is a long one so cut Mike some slack, he does us all a great service. And most of all, unlike many boot dealers, he's reliable because he's a FAN. Kai wrote: >newbies and veterans - proposition for the list

It's not the questions I mind (though I know I get testy), its that people just jump on and blurt what's on their minds instead of taking the time to read through for a week and find things out. I know people say that there is little DT content on here, but if all you're looking for is news and facts, that's what websites and FAQs are for. It doesn't hurt the list, but I imagine those messages get annoying to those in ack mode. Simon wrote: >Points 2 and 3 are just rumors, nothin confirmed.

You should believe what you see on OFFICIAL web pages. I'm not going to presume to ask how long you've been on the list Chris, but within the last two months we've had tentative song lists for the album from Portnoy, and John and Derek saying (at clinics) that Metropolis II would not be on the album. But if you skipped over that, it's understandable. The EP thing was not part of the original statement, and is a viable possibility, but it relates little to the question that prompted my bitterness. :) And yes, I am in the band. But if everyone knew I was really KJLB, they might stop with all those good jokes... :P

I had no idea that postal losses were that high!!

I have a further update on my postal delemma. Ironically, the past two nights on the local news their big newsbreak has been how local drug addicts are stealing mail from boxes. It seems there are several 'gangs' that just drive around neighborhoods after the mailman has delivered (not Karl :>) and just take random handfuls. I never received the second checks that were mailed either. I had to have them direct deposited to get my money.

I'm hoping that my second PT will arrive as these assholes are still at large. Thanks for going through all the hassle of resending it. IF by chance the other one gets 'lost' I'll give you my business mailing address and have it come out here to work. Thanks, again and keep cranking out the CD's :>

KJLB is cool don't know Ian Guillan, so I'll put in Gary Cherone Phil Anselmo is insane, definite feeling.....kinda iffy on the "best" tag.... Brain Salad Surgery and Tarkus. Emerson is the influence on people like Moore and Sherinian. He roolz. It's hard to classify the music. Just listen with an open mind, and hopefully you will enjoy. Fear Keith Emerson.

Mint condition Green Jems with signature (most are signed by Vai) and certificate usually sell for $1000 - 2000. I know people who have sold them for $1200 and $1600. If the Zappa sig can be verified, that could be worth some H U G E dough.

Heheh sometimes it's a requirement. Some of these sell out before they're made. I sent my check after the first announcement of PT, and I still haven't seen my disc though. I have to believe there's a better method for the shipping. Could there be THAT many people that paid before I did? Ah... but I shall not bitch. > >Oh, my bad. >The only label that works is jazz because its so easily definable (but also has >subdivisions up the wahzoo).

I dunno about that. Rap is pretty easily definable. Just listen for people with (seemingly) the IQ of a monkey speaking (not singing) in dirty nursery rhymes. Generally try to make themselves look tough even tho' most of them are under 150 lbs. 98% have no instrumentation and 99.999% have no talent. Disdain and lack of respect for women is rampant with words such as "bitch" and "ho" appearing frequently. Also defined by boring, repetitive sequencing and really obnoxious bass that affecionados of the genre enjoy blasting at high volumes out of their car (usually a real beater) windows to annoy passersby. Frequently samples are ripped from other artists and played off as the rap "artist's" own. Speaking of rap "artists," for some reason none of them use their real names, and, depending on which coast of the United States one is based on, one or more secret handshakes are used. Childish fights b/t the two coasts happen often. One hit "wonders" are very common. The genre is also occasionaly termed "hip-hop," "dance music," and "complete shit."

All of this IMO. :) </rant>

Sorry 'bout that. Though I believe everything above, it's only coming out because I just realized I lost my favorite Zippo and am quite pissed about it. :) It's those simple little things that really get me sometimes. Hehe...
