I don't know about the album version, but the recording of 2112
used on Virtual Songs indeed lasts 21 minutes, 12 seconds. Remember that
Alex added some solo to the performance version. I think Rush may have
been well aware of what the slight modification would do to the song's
    running time. :)

    hey all,

I've been so busy and didn't catch about the last month of jams -- still
    have 'em, just unread...

anything worth catching up on? (200 jams are a lot to page through!) And,
    are They in studio yet?

I'm getting a mailing list! I still want to do the tribute! I *think* that
it will be tribute@skywalker.ecn.ou.edu... don't have it set up yet... the list
will have to be invitation only. Tuesday or sometime thereabout you can email
me at isis@skywalker.ecn.ou.edu if you want to be on the list. If you have
mailed me before, I have your name and eddress and EVERYTHING else (instrument,
song, location) if you sent it to me.

    well, ta ta for now...

It's called Niacin. At the Sheehan clinic recently, he talked about
how much he digs the Hammond organ, so he did this thing. All
instrumental, from what I know (haven't heard it all yet). You can

Well, it is nice to know that I'm not the only one who doesn't

Well, this poem is called: "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time". I have it on my homepage. The first part is in the movie: "Dead Poets' Society" and some samples were taken and put on ACOS. You may know this from the FAQ.

    Greetings Jammers,

I haven't picked through all the Jams cluttering my mailbox, but I've been seeing some stuff about singers worth mentioning...

Someone already mentioned Tesla... anyone that doesn't own at least 2 or 3 Tesla albums should do themselves a favor... Psychotic Supper and Bust a Nut are some great albums when you just want some good old fashioned rock-n-roll and Jeff Keith (sp?) has IMO a pretty good voice, even if it is a bit unorthodox.

Revived 80's band that I popped in the CD player while I'm reading my mail: Tyketto. Not one of the more famous 80's bands, but as far as glam rock goes it's good stuff... anyway, the vocalist has a pretty good voice. I could hear him fronting an Extreme or DT-ish type band...

Ugly Kid Joe: pulled this one out of the closet today too... man, these guys were pretty cool back in the day. Still pretty good stuff to pull out every now and then. Yet again another unique vocalist, and I think he could still be viable today. Whatever happened to these guys anyhow? Did the tragic demise of the 80's bands catch them too?

Hmm.. who else... I dunno, but sometimes pulling out the 80's stuff can be quite enjoyable. Next into the CD player will probably be Wrathchild America... these guys have their own style, and it's an interesting one. Really neat things going on rhythm wise (e.g. groove)... cool lyrics too.

Well, I'm finally back in Burlington after a vacation that took much longer than I expected. During the YtseDrunkenFest a couple Saturdays ago (which was very poorly attended, btw), I felt a pain in my side which continually got worse as the night went on. By 2:00 that night, I was in the emergency room with unbearable pain. Kidney stones. Not fun at all. But I did get some *great* drugs (Demarol is even better than Dew!) and was fully recovered in about a week. Of course, by that point, my ride had already left to come back up here, so I was stuck in NY for another week while my mother was in Florida. And I had limited access over a 14.4 to the net. So, I'm damn behind on e-mail.

Well, anyway, huge thanks to all of you for writing and calling me during my downtime. It really did mean a lot to me to know that you guys had my back.

So, I'm back in Vermont now, slowly catching up on e-mail. Everyone that e-mailed me will hopefully get a reply. Everyone that I owe tapes and stuff to will be getting them soon, now that I'm back home and back to normal.

One neat little anecdote about my overextended vacation. As some of you know, I'm a volunteer firefighter when I'm home. The other night, we were called to an automatic fire alarm at someone's house. I wound up being in charge of the call, which meant (among other things) that I was the guy talking on the radio. Nassau County Radio Signal 21 means that a unit is en route to the scene, and Signal 12 means that the situation is under control, and that units should respond normally (as opposed to flying down the street, sirens a-blazin'). We received a signal 12 before we left the firehouse, so when we left, I got to say into the radio, "Unit 441 signal 21-12."

It's the little things in life that keep ya going.

Thanks again to everyone that checked in on me. I'm back, trying to get back to life as usual.

I hate to rehash an old thread like this, but I'm catching up on jams (yes, I'm going through all 600-odd posts) and saw this. Who was it that saw Winger at the Essex Fairgrounds? I've been up here two damned years and have never once heard of the fairgrounds being used for anything nearly as cool as rock music. (Private e-mail is ok, and will be read more quickly.)

I somehow got taken to www.cduniverse.com without even pressing the link on a page, but I figured what the heck and I searched for Dream Theater. I clicked on Awake, and they have all the tracks listed as well as RealAudio clips of a few of the tracks. I went to the bottom of the page and they had the names of the band.. so.. me being bored I clicked on all of them, and only one of them surprised me. Supposedly this is all that Kevin Moore has played on..

AWAKE : DREAM THEATER : Keyboards BEST OF : VA-NIGHTMARE RECORDS : Vocals BLUE WISP BIG BAND : BLUE WISP BIG BAND : Trumpet IMAGES & WORDS : DREAM THEATER : Keyboards ROCK FATHER CREACH : PAPA JOHN : Guitar (Acoustic) /Vocals/Guitar (Electric)/Guitar

I'm not too big a Kevin fan myself, but I thought that was kind of interesting. The only reason I don't (or didn't) worship him on the same level as the rest of the band is that he just seemed so distant from the band, and his stage presence sucked..

    Hey friends -

Oh glorious day... "Precious Things" has finally arrived!!! Another stellar effort from Mr. Bahr (like he's ever produced anything less...) The last track, "Learning To Live", is listed as being taken from the original I&W demo sessions. I have the exact same recording on a couple of other boots that have it listed on each as being from James's vocal audition, one of three songs he did (the other 2 trax being "Take the Time" and acoustic "To Live Forever"). Can anyone confirm or deny this for sure???

(Yup, I'm in a replying mood.) UKJ is still alive and kicking. Their latest is called "Motel California." I got to hear about three or four songs off it last week, and it's as good as their more famous stuff (from the EP and from America's Least Wanted). The one song title I remember: "Rage Against the Answering Machine." I'll be picking this one up next time I have money.
