Finally! Our Dream Theater page has been updated.
Currently there are complete (!) guitar tablatures of Under a Glass Moon,
Caught in a Web, The Mirror and John's Rock Discipline tutorial video.
Interesting (:-)) MP3 files (come check them out), nowhere-to-be-found
pictures and other stuff like Mike's new Starclassic drum setup and
    error-free lyrics.
To the lot of you who have e-mailed me with tablature requests: please
be patient (even the band say so themselves :-)), they're coming. The site
is titled "Under a Web Room" (also available from the Lifting Shadows
Official Page at http://www.rsabbs.com/dt), and the URL is:

    http://tunder.hos.u-szeged.hu/music/dt (ex-thunder.sch.bme.hu). Enjoy!

I'll drop a word here when other tablatures are finished.

When I want to break a glass, I usually just drop it on the floor. It's
much easier than rubbing the rim and trying to sing the exact note,
etc. It's also much better for your throat.

    Hi all

the last couple of jams have inspired me to ask a question that has been on my mind for quite a while:

how many colours (discounting black and white) can James LaBrie sing? I once heard that Axl Rose managed 7, but then choked on the ultraviolet, having already had trouble with the infrared (something to do with the glass micro- phone shattering or whatever). Just curious, that's all.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software.ag.de) Currently playing: Theatre Of Tragedy - A Rose For The Dead

I have to agree with the Lady here - when someone brought up Jim Gilette earlier, I though exactly the same thing. I've heard the Nitro CD's (our singer likes them - even though he won't admit it) and I've seen the band (who were so sequenced it was ridiculous) and Gilette has a high voice. It also sounds like CRAP. I'd much rather hear someone sing with good tone and control than hear them scream their head off. That's why I like Tate, LaBrie, et al - they SING, instead of screaming as high as they can.

But if you want to talk high, Eric Knutsen of Flotsam and Jetsam wins the award for either the end of "Doomsday For the Deceiver" or "No Place for Disgrace" - I've seen him nail both of these live, and he holds that note in "Doomsday" forever.

Oh yeah, his voice sounds good, too. :)

    Hey Jammers.

1)This is the first time I send a message to a mailing list. So, I don't know if my message(or e-mail) will come to you.But anyway, here is my first e-mail to this mailing list. One thing I've noticed is that some of the people of this mailing list never went to ytsejam channel.Weird.:=) 2)Last December I bought a King's X cd Dogman. At that time I didn't like the album. At least, not as much as I thought i would like it. But now I have listened people at ytsejam channel telling good things about them, and Jim Matheos (one of my fave players)seems to love them, so I tried again to listen King's X. And now I shall say I like the band. And the more I listen Dogman the more I like this album. Parallels gave me an advice, to buy the old cds from King's X. I will. 3)I have seen some old prog fans telling that they don't like new progressive music like Dream Theater,Fates Warning, etc, at the point of do not consider them as progresssive music. Let me know your opinion about. Because I like both old and new prog bands (Rush, Yes,Gentle Giant, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Shadow Gallery, Angra, etc).

See ya all later, and forgive me for any english error.

    Daniel V. Gomes (a.k.a Aragorn)

ps-Spartacus if you are at this mailing list, my Parallels cd arrived. And I got Inside Out and APSoG too. Now Fates is one my fave bands.:=)

Was DT on that 'top 500 contdown' at all? How about Queensryche? Anyways, I have a question... Does anyone have any idea what Mike Romeo (Symphony X) used to get the rhythm sound on Divine Wings of Tradgedy? This album absolutely kicks ass. A big thank you goes out to Anthony Sciamana for turning me on to them. Anthony, if your listening, "Thank You!":) I know this has been posted before, but everyone on this list should by now have a copy of Clockwork's new EP "Search". If you dont, you should get a copy NOW. These guys rule. Wicked music, awesome lyrics, and everything else that makes a great progressive band great. Everyone go over to http://www.netti.fi/~japi/ and check them out. -Chris

YES! Thank you for saying this! <and an EOJ to boot! :P> This is an attitude I have come across innumerable times in my career, and I'm tired of it. In any competition in which i have ever been a mezzo-soprano will never win over a soprano and a bass or baritone will never win over a tenor. The range or your average bass aria is two octaves, while you average tenor aria is only about an octave and a fifth. The bass aria is much harder <lots of leaps and wider tessitura> but people would just rather hear a screaming tenor. I don't get it.

    Hi Dan.

Each of the Queensryche shows will be opened by a local act so it might very well be Dream Theatre. We are waiting for a full list of all the confirmed opening acts, but the best thing to do is check with the venue and the local radio station supporting it. All the best.

The best place in the Baltimore/Washington area is a place called Of Sound Mind. It's located in a yuppie craft mall called the "Old Savage Mill" in Savage, MD. It's a suburb just south of Columbia, MD.

I live in Ohio, but most of my family lives over there. I went to this store last time I visited the area. I took Route 29 south to US 1. I don't remember from there, but there's plenty of signs once you get close.

The store is located in a complex of connected buildings that used to be a mill. The store is sort of hard to find. Its a tiny hole in the wall so its easy to miss. There's several maps of the stores located throughout the buildings.

The store itself has a real big selection of progressive rock, which is probably where Spock's Beard can be found. There is also a great selection of progressive/power metal that includes many of the bands discussed on ytsejam.

The owner, Chris Lamka (sp?), is very supportive and knowledgable of prog. He holds a small progressive music festival every now and then. When I was there in December, he said that he had contacted Angra's management about playing his next show.

    Take your credit card.

    Hope this helps.

Right you are sir!!!!!!! What about the MUSICIANS out there who is fed up and tired of listening to all the *crap*(ie.alterantive, grunge) that is flooding the air waves?

How many of you, musicians, got into prog because of the challenge to learn, explore, and be challenged on a higher musical level? I know I did. After 12 years of jamming away at the POPular shit that was out there, then to have all that *crap* take over the air waves left me musically tired and then DT!!! What a revelation and a breath of fresh air to music they bring.I only wish I had known about DT sooner. I bought AWAKE a year after it had been released and soon after I got everything else that DT ever released that I could get my hands on.

    ANYBODY ELSE HAVE SIMILAR VIEWS???

Never, it's just fun to find out:) But I think that in prog-metal, the emphasis is commmonly put on how high the guy can go, which actually makes no sense, because as long as a singer has good control of his/her voice and knows when and where to use it, it should be good enough.

Count me in. What got me into music in the first place were bands like (eek! no!) Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, etc. so I played along with them. After time, playing any of that crap was no long a challenge at all. Amazingly <g> I didn't even have to use guitar tab to learn Nirvana songs. :) After a couple of years of advancing through difficulty stages musically: Nirvana -> Metallica -> Queensryche -> Yanni (Wait a sec, what's he doin here?), I discovered Dream Theater. All I can say is that I still have yet to learn to play a song right. :) Challenging yes, and your mom will like it, too!

it will be a clean tone, but most likely it wont be a note. it will be close to a note, but a little sharp or flat. it all depends on the shape and size of the glass

Admittedly, Jim Gillette (former opera singer...that explains alot) doesn't have the greatest voice in the world, but he does have the greatest range for male singers. I saw someone post that the wine glass must be thin-walled or something to break it. For the record...Jim, while in Nitro, would have heavy, lead crystal goblets imported from Germany. (If anyone knows the quality of German crystal, you'll know what I'm talking about). It's heavy stuff. I always thought Nitro's tagline was cool, too... Drugs are for dumbfu*ks; don't be a dumbfu*k!

    Heh, here's an idea....

let's have DT keep producing the good long, real music for the albums, and seperate, 5 minute songs for the airwaves (i.e, singles for albums but the single won't be on the album, it'll be a new song!)

THAT way, we can listen to DT that's NEVER played on the radio, and yet, turn on the radio and hear, "This is DT, with another ass kicker, Lie 3..."

Heh, is my head up my ass or what? :D

Somebody mentioned a while ago about their town radio station playing full albums late at night...well,

Out here in metal land (Phoenix, AZ), KUPD has this same exact deal on Saturday evenings at like, midnight, where they play the full albums of a selected band for that night, and to be honest, the dj's know what to play. From the times I've tuned in, I've heard Van Halen's Best Of Vol. 1, Metallica's Ride the Lightning and Injustice for All..., and Pantera's Cowboys from Hell.
