    Hi to everyone,
I only want to defend our sex in a brief statement, saying that there are
women who ARE REAL HEAVY METAL FANS.
Me, myself, I've been listening to this sound for the last 10 years at
    least, I
will be touring Europe in december to see four of the eight concerts of
DT, I am currently working on setting up the new Apollyon's Sun fanclub
(the new band of former Coroner drummer Marky and of former Celtic Frost
guitar player Tom) and I am deeply and truely dedicated to this music.

    Cheers

Someone asked this a couple of 'jams ago, and it wasn't answered, so I'll
try again, fore-going their roundabout way, and asking the direct question:

Does anyone know if there is a specific date that would be necessary to
join the Fan Club, in order to receive this year's fan club CD? I plan to
send of the necessary money next week, but considering I live in Australia,
it'll take a good week to get there, so am I going to be too late?
Is there a specific send-out date for the CD that anyone knows (i.e. will
it be sent out JUSt before Christmas, or weeks before)??

ALSO, Queensryche's version of Scarborough Fair (I'm guessing from the
Unplugged show?) is on a cassingle a friend of mine has of the song
"Empire". It's the only b-side on the tape. It cost him fifty cents, or
something. :-) So there ya go, that's been released, too.

Someone mentioned both Faith No More and Mr. Bungle as being progressive
rock.............. to me, being a big fan of both bands, I'd have to say
'no'. Not exactly sure WHY, although I know members of both the bands would
give you a definite 'no' vote. :-)
New FNM guitarist Jon Hudson does enjoy some King Crimson, though.

Sorry if my fan club CD question pisses anyone off, in the event it's been
answered, altohugh I *try* to read every bloody 'jam from beginning to end.

ANOTHER thing: can people PLEASE post the set-lists if they see a show if
at all possible? I've seen people go 'nah, I'm not going to give you the
set-list'. PLEASE do! If I see a show from this tour, I'll be bloody
surprised, so at least give me this small luxury!

    Seeya!

Have any of you drummers heard of any Mark Mondesir, he plays jazz

better than 'Q' and still groove, he uses a 5 piece kit, quite a lot

Yeah, you got me there. I have ratio of 'DT display' of about 3 : 1

Still I stick to the fact that even if the ratio were even, more males

I couldn't say off the top of my head that anything by DT specifically
reminds me of any Styx stuff, although if I sat down and went through
my CD collection of both bands I'm sure I could find quite a few
analogues. Certainly Styx in their day were of a similar nature to DT
         - progressive, good musicians, writing songs in a number of different
styles, getting (I think unjustly) slagged by their fans for 'selling
out and changing direction too much' (remember the outcry over 'Kilroy
Was Here' anyone?! ==;-) ). Besides, I love both of these bands to
bits so there must be some connection. Either that or I'm
schizophrenic. Who said that? I did! Ok....

Whilst I'm in 'compare and contrast mode':

As for commercial success & such like of these 2 bands, I guess maybe
the 70's / Early 80's of Styx's heydey were more open to prog-y type
stuff than are the grungy / dancey eMpTyV 90's - this coupled with the
fact that I think DT are more musically experimental than Styx were
(in so far as they are prepared to write long, complex songs, loads of
odd time sigs & changes etc. whereas the variety of Styx was more song
to song I feel) may go some way to explaining the differences? Styx
were probably more 'commercially acceptable', if such things can be
qualified in any way... Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I know of at least three albums besides LGotS:
"As the Flower Withers" is their first album and it's a bit different
(much closer to death metal) than their latter releases. I like it
but some ppl may not like it because of the growls.
"Turn Loose the Swans" ought to contain same stuff but without growls.
( I can't be sure of it. I don't own this record and have heard it only
    once
    years ago)
"The Angel and the Dark River" is their best album. Clear vocals,
simple but beautiful melodies and so on. Aaron is a poor singer but I
think it fits to their music. If you like LGotS you'll propably like this
    one
    too.
Then there is a release called "Trinity" which contains three EP's.
Lots of stuff I don't like but some great songs too, like "I Am the
Bloody Earth". It's worth listening, though.

You can find samples, tabs and a complete discography from
http://pmwww.cs.vu.nl/MyDyingBride/ but you might also like to
check out Peaceville Records (www.peaceville.com) for some
    other cool bands.

    Hilo,

I didn't notice anyone having mentioned this so I thought I would. 98 Rock in Baltimore played DT's "You Not Me" at around 9pm on Wednesday night. It was played for the "Love it or Shove it" thing that they do where people call in to say they liked the song or disliked it. Unfortunately, I was in my car so I couldn't call in right away, but from what I heard it seemed that most people "Loved it". A couple callers went on to say how they loved Dream Theater. :-) Cool! When I got home I tried to call to say something about the Ytsejammers but I never got through. At least there are some DT fans out there in Baltimore! Was it any of you Ytsejammers?

    hey all,

good news on MFBESWILTR (my favorite band except sometimes when i listen to rush). the new issue of bass player, (didn't look at the month, but it's got jeff berlin on the cover) reviews fii in its "bp recommends" section. it's actually one of the highlighted reviews, one that they set off in a separate box each month and go into in some depth. very positive review overall, only complaint being possibly some overplaying by mp and jp. hey, can't have it all, i guess. hopefully, though, this will give the guys some exposure, help to get the sales of this album off the ground a bit.

I know what you mean, but for me it's Peruvian Skies that does it. I also agree that the middle part of the album loses it slightly, I can't put my finger on why either, although it's still excellent. Actually, I've just realised, I think it's the new version of BMS, I think I preffered the fix version. Same with TAMP and (to a lesser extent) LiTS.

    >music knowledge wants to tell me that HK shares chord progressions or >time changes or whatever with other stuff on FII then that's cool - I >don't hear or feel it though and that's all I can ever go on.) Anyways

I can't hear HK anywhere else on the album, but it was originally part of BMS and was split into a seperate song. It sounds good on it's own, but I think BMS loses something without it. (Just my opinion - flame me if you want, hell why not, everyone else seems to be getting flamed these days!)

i've been curious as to whether or not there's going to be a gathering before the irving plaza show, and mr. adam (perk1994@aol.com) suggested a place called, to quote him, "the Heartland Brewery, at 34 Union Square West. It's like three blocks away from Irving Plaza, near Staples (about a block away)." this sounds very good to me. no time was set, and hopefully one will be sooner or later. i'll be off to poughkeepsie, ny, until tomorrow morning, so i'll hopefully find out what time any gathering takes place.

this invitation is open to anyone on here who's planning on going to the show (hey skadz- you going?), so hop in.

hope to hear good news tomorrow.

I think the keys were just as prominent on Awake. Maybe there weren't as many keyboard leads/solos, but on Awake the keyboards COMPLIMENTED the rest of the band, whereas on FII they seem to BLEND with the rest of the band more. So in my nipple, the keys on FII add more to the overall sound and atmosphere, but I think the keyboard parts on Awake were better, because that's the compositional style I prefer. Neither come close to I&W, however.

Also, by "weak", I don't think he meant "less prominent". I mean, Derek has some awesome sounds and stuff, but his compositional work leaves something to be desired in certain places. For instance, I think the piano on Anna Lee is weak, and I think Hollow Years would be much more interesting with Kevin doing it. I'm not knocking Derek though, LITS, A New Millennium, TOT, etc. are awesome. I just prefer Kevin's style. And in general, I think people who like heavier music will probably prepfer Derek's style, whereas people who are more into more "proggy" and classical type music will probably prefer Kevin's style. I think all the arguing over who's better is pointlesss.

    > I must, however, express my dicontent concerning the over abundance > of posts about a band that I consider to be good, but "very" > overrated. Thats right fruitcake, I'm talking about Metallica.

Yeah, since did this become the Metallica list? A few months ago it was the Megadeth list too. This is ridiculous. DT just released a new album, and now they're in the middle of a tour, and half the posts are about Metallica?

    > Jesus. This really pisses me off. And I don't mean that you found two of > them. I can't believe that you would actually try and make a fucking PROFIT > off of another fellow Ytsejam'er. That's pretty fucking shitty man. I know

If I really wanted to make a profit, I'd make a CD-R copy and *auction* both CD's off, as well as my copy of Subconscious. I was half-joking for one thing... I didn't think it was that rare all of a sudden, but if there are several people who're more than willing to pay $42 for it, I don't think I'm ripping anyone off. I'd also have been willing to work out a trade, BTW.

    > if I had an extra copy (and I don't even have ONE) I would offer it for the > same price I got it for plus shipping. Not only that, but if it was open > I'd sell it cheaper.

I wouldn't. If I was going to sell it at the same price it cost me, I'd sell it to one of my friends, and *not* to a jammer. Or more likely, I wouldn't sell it at all. I think you're just jealous because you don't have one, and because you're not making an easy $42. So you're probably even more greedy than I am.

You should just be happy that I *am* selling it, and that someone who really wants the CD is going to get it for less than I probably *could* get for it. And you should also be glad that a student who actually needs the extra cash is the one making the profit here, as opposed to some bootlegger.

Your logic here is somewhat absurd. If you had two Mario Lemieux rookie cards, would you offer one of them to someone like me (a huge fan) for the few cents it originally cost? This price also prevents someone who's excessively greedy from snapping it up and turning it around and reslling it for $50-60 and making even more of a profit than I am.

It would be nice if the world worked the way you think it should, but it doesn't. Get used to it.

Why is it that someone else is always able to do a better job of expressing a point I'm trying to make than I am? Chris is basically right... I didn't mean that it was stupid for anyone to pay that much, just that *I* wouldn't pay that much. But my comment was in response to the comment about how someone "must be desparate" to trade the Lie single for 2 DT tickets worth $42 - what I was saying is that I wouldn't call that "desparate" (shrug).

(Also, as I said in my last message, it's not like I was trying to get rid of it... I'd rather have just hung onto it than sold it for, say, $20 - I already lent one of the copies indefinitely to a friend who only likes SDV, and I don't know when I'll be able to get it back)
