really were 'LP's'. I think I'll look into pricing out some glasses :).

The fill that I'm talking about actually starts with the eight notes @ 6:30
and the 32'nd notes go on until 6:35.

Here's a drummer that is spoken highly of by other professional
    drummers:

Steve Smith...of Journey, The Storm, and various jazz, rock fusion
projects. He is an amazing drummer, quiet but awesome. I had the
distinct pleasure of assisting him unload his equipment (which he drove
himself) for a drum clinic. I also got a once in a lifetime thrill of
watching this man warm up before the clinic's doors were opened. He
does not get enough credit where credit is due!

So add Mr.Smith to the list!

OK, for clarification - Roy Haynes is a longtime Jazz drummer. He played with the great John Coltrane in the early and mid 60's, while Chick Corea was still learning to play 12 bar blues in high school. Since then, Roy has recorded at least 10 albums (and perhaps twice that) as a bandleader, not to mention playing on scores of other peoples projects. You just about cannot name anyone in Jazz that Roy hasn't worked with. His playing is tight, tasteful, and masterful.

BTW, Chick has released an album called "Remembering Bud Powell", and it is truly fabulous. If you like Jazz, get it. :)

You say this like this is a good thing. Most Metallica fans from the first four albums DON'T like TBA. A return to the feel of that album is still a disappointment. Sorry.

Yes, it is. I will say that I was disappointed with TBA, BUT, It grew on me because it was Metallica! When LOAD came out I almost cried!! Here I was waiting like 4 years for them to put out a great album and I got shit!! But, I am happy to see that reLOAD is regressing (so to speak) and they went back to the heavy stuff. I like this album, it shows musical maturity in the sense that they were not afraid to branch out a little bit, but still stuck in a feel of the past (THE HEAVY SHIT-YEAH!) Maybe we will see more of this in the future. I would be happy as long as it isn't like LOAD. reLOAD suits me, in fact it impresses me. I like almost every song on the album. I own LOAD but it collects dust. Later, J

Talked to a guy at the Masquerade tonight who seemed to know his business (for a wonder :)). The show will be all-ages, tickets are $16/advance and $18 at the door "if any are left" (I like the way he said that), and will be available starting later this week at the Masquerade box office (50 cent surcharge) and via Ticketmaster Southeast. He had only heard about the show on Monday, so of course WE knew about it beforehand right here. :) :)

Alas, no firm info yet regarding the Fates Warning show. I'll try again tomorrow; seems their nighttime bar-help hasn't a clue. :)

Although it hasnt been said officially, it seems to me that in the intro and outro to ToT there's some stick...at least it sounds like it.

and FII ending with a Myung solo (when it > doesn't)! So, I ask you, who's the foolish one again?

Well, there *is* a solo, but incredibely short, at the end of ToT when Labrie holds the 'HEEEAVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN'. Its arguable wheter its a solo or not ( a long fill? ), but it can be considered a solo.

    >not necessarily. i can listen to charlie haden slowly and methodically >pick out beautiful, perfectly chosen notes in a wonderfully slow and >tasteful bassline, and i can hear michael anthony bore the listening >with his aimless sixteenth note playing. the first is much slower, but

Well, obviously there are exceotions...but I meant 16th notes in which every note is a different one, note like ANthony who holds down the same note. (I'm thinking from a guitarist point of view here too...its hard for the bass to really distract attention because of the low frequencies. While guitar, keys, and vox are all fighting it out.

I think what he was trying to say was that the fans who DID like the black album here on the JAM (and they DO exist) should check it out. If you disliked it, then don't bother with the post. Simple as that.

i guess it depends on what you heard about it before it came out. i knew it was going to be more modern rock sounding, so i was excepting it. if you were expecting the no power chords, funky stuff, then i guess you would be disappointed.

as far as his first solo CD, i REALLY like it. it's one of my fav CDs of the year (along with the new megadeth, new faith no more, new DT, and caedmon's call). he's got a great voice, and his songs (while simpler than the nuno we all know and love) are really well written, IMO. it's more natural sounding, as opposed to the always playing to thrill thing...

he's supposedly working on a new solo CD soon... :)

also, it may just be me, but i'm pretty sure that extreme will get back together for one more. the VH thing, while great, will not go over to well in the publics' eyes. it's bound to fail. the old DLR/VH fans, and the second wave SH/VH fans aren't gonna want another singer to deal with. all i know is, i'll buy it the first day it comes out (but that's the only VH CD i'll have in my collection)... honestly, i forsee gary with VH for one, maybe two CDs, and then EVH will call it quits from bad critics, then gary and nuno will get back together... but that's my speculation/ prediction/ hope/ whatever...

    Hi all

"It was twenty years ago today, that Sgt Pepper taught the band to play". Well, nearly. It was, in fact, 21 years ago today that the Sex Pistols released that great single "Anarchy In The UK". Nostalgia night, tonight - the video of "The Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle" pogo dancing (and you kids thought moshing was new and hard), cheap lager straight from the can and safety pins through the nose. This single gave the then-stagnant British music industry a well-deserved kick up the arse.

What next? Good news for Kyuss fans. There is a new bootleg out called "Mercurious Pools" and is available for $19.50 from Asylum News. Has anybody heard it yet, or has anybody dealt with this company before? I'd be most interested in getting my grubby little paws on this. In addition, a compilation of Kyuss rarities (singles, B sides, live stuff) will be released on the 8th of December under the title "Queens Of The Stone Age" on the Man's Ruin label.

Mail me if you want some rather tasteless stuff about that guy from INXS dying.

Dream Theater content: I'll be at the Vanden Plas/Dream Theater gig in Offenbach next Tuesday. I'll be the one not wearing a Dream Theater shirt.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) (http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Rapids/2321) Currently playing: Anathema - The Silent Enigma
