    Well, I bought reLOAD last night and I have to say YES! this album ROCKS! I
    absolutely hated everything about LOAD, but reLOAD rocks. This album is a
    return to the feel of The Black Album. I really like almost every track
    off of this album..for once since The Black Album, I will recommend this to
    someone to purchase. This isn't a disappoint, though less heavy, it is
    more talented than most of Metallica's releases.

    Wow! I'm shocked. When I was at Toad's Place for the first show of the
    tour.. I was very impressed with everything.. There were no problems with
    sound at all. In fact, the mix was near perfect IMO. In my spoiler after
    the show, I mentioned that I think that if you were a 'legger, this was the
    show to attend and record. But, James was quick to mention that DT has a
    brand new roadcrew and that if there were any problems that it was because
    of having a new road crew. It was kind of funny in this instance because
    the road crew didn't have any problems, it was DT that did.. they screwed
    up New Millenium :)

    But then you have to get into the issue of who's reasoning takes precedence.
    If the musician looks back at a part and goes "Ugh, that doesn't fit at
    all", it would be difficult for us to argue with him. By the same token, if
    he "overplays" a part, and to his ear, it presents exactly the image that he
    was trying to acheive, who else is really in a position to tell him that it
    sucks?

    That is true, but it is next to impossible to prove, for the same reason I
    stated above. Since you can't get inside the writer's head, it's impossible
    to know the exact thought process that went into the song.

    That's a very good point. How many times have you seen (on this list or
    elsewhere) somebody that was pissed off because no-talent bands are going
    platinum while DT and others languish in relative obscurity? What is
    happening there is that we are complaining about those other bands
    "underplaying" - so we are just as guilty sometimes as the people who accuse
    DT of OVERplaying.

    I suppose DT overplays, but I like it and so do a lot of other people
    obviously else the band wouldn't be around. I guess if you call a long
    song overplaying then DT does. I dont have a problem with it.

    Yep it is Danger, Danger but without the original singer Ted Poley. I have
    no clue what the new singer sounds like.

    Hey Guys,
    At the Tradewinds show, the crowd were really nice to Big Wreck. They were a
    lot better than they were at Toad's Place. I gained a slight respect for the
    lead singer. After the first song, he said to the audience, "We are Big
    Wreck and let me get this straight...we are not 35, we are 25, and we do not
    have any fucking teen angst. We play music because we enjoy playing and we
    like other people to enjoy our music" (or something close to it) The crwd
    told him to play Rusty Cage and he just laughed it off. We even started a
    cheer for their roadie Boof.
    They were pretty cool to the crowd, they weren't dicks.

    BTW--I received the best gift ever at that show--not only did JP throw me his
    pick, but MP gave me his chewed up, splintered drumstick (i was lucky to be
    like the only girl in the front row). I will treasure these forever

            Are you sure you like those Marianne Faithful vocals? They
    should had choosen a woman with female vocals, not one with vocals that
    makes James Hetfield's ones appear like woman's vocals.

            The only good song on this album: Fuel.

            BTW, every artist seem to say that when they're getting older,
    they are more mature and they don't need to play fast to show off their
    abilities anymore etc. Ok. You know that Master of Puppets is 8:3x minutes
    long. I have a boot here from the MoP tour where they play MoP in less
    than 7:3x. That's *very* fast and I definitely think that I need this.

            I *NEED* Immaturity!!! :-)))

    I would say Kevin Moore's Chroma Key will sound like them with the exception of Vocals. It's some kind of Prog Industrial which sounds very cool.

    Hey, does anyone out there remember the band, "Gorky Park?" They were a hard rock / metal band from the former USSR. Jon Bon Jovi discovered them and brought them to the States. He and Richie Sambora produced the band's self-titled 1989 debut, which had a big hit with, "Bang." The song contained alternating Russian and English lyrics, although the rest of the album was all in English. I've seen their CD in used stores a few times. I was just wondering what ever happened to these guy. They were actually pretty good (better than their producers band, anyway!). Maybe some of you late 80's / early 90's glam metal fans will know.

    Everybody knows the story behind Peruvian Skies about a girl who is abused by her father. The incredible thing happened the other day when I was reading an article about child violence, as I was reading it near the end they started to talk about a case of a southamerican girl named Vanessa who said she was raped by her father. At this time I knew it was obviously the story of PS but what really shocked me was that when I continued reading the article started to talk about how kids are getting involved in violence and senseless acts of revenge against their parents and this is where the story got distorted. It turns out that everything Vanessa said was a lie and it was all a hoax , she never was abused by her father and she had created those lies because her father wouldn't let her stay out of her house. The father spent 1 year in prison where at one pointed tried to commit suicide until Vanessa confessed and he was liberated. I'll tell you , I was really impressed to hear this story and I'm sure John Petrucci wasn't aware of all this situation when he wrote the song. How's that for Poor Vanessa !

    not necessarily. i can listen to charlie haden slowly and methodically pick out beautiful, perfectly chosen notes in a wonderfully slow and tasteful bassline, and i can hear michael anthony bore the listening with his aimless sixteenth note playing. the first is much slower, but is far more cerebral, and to truly appreciate it requires far more concentration.

    hmmm... true, only in that the bottom line should always be the individual's enjoyment of the music. however, this debate isn't necessarily about that; rather, it is concerned with whether the notion of "overplaying" is valid as a criticism of certain forms of music, and further, whether it is even a valid concept. in that regard, it is a discussion worth pursuing.

    very true, and a good point! something can be blindingly fast, but musically, it can be quite simple. a string of furious 128th notes (oof) can be all the same note, or simply flying up and down scales. very fast... and mind-numbingly simple. the important term here, of course, is "simple." the technique may not be simple, but the music itself could very well be. think of the micromachines guy--were he to recite a cheesy romance novel really fast, his interesting verbal technique does not affect the simplicity of the literature. as a piece of literature, it's still boring, one-dimensional, and shallow. the complaint about over-playing, then, seems to hinge in part on whether the part being played fast is more than just technique--if it is musically compelling and challenging as well.
