Wow. This is starting to make me feel that we have a pretty damn cool
radio station here in Maine. I was spent most of yesterday either reading
or driving around, and on the same radio station I heard BMS 3 times.
Yesterday alone. And I was only listening for a total of maybe 5-6 hours.
Mainers must just like the title of the song and listen to it in the hopes
it keeps us warm for awhile.
Since YNM premiered last Thursday (that was the official radio station "New
Music" time) I haven't heard it played. When BMS was premiered several
people called up to say how cool it was...there wasn't that response to
YNM.
Well, there's one good thing about Maine...

Boy, that's a tough one. There are so many to choose from... Well, off the
top of my head (and I'm half awake right now, so I might not be remembering
all that I should...), I'd have to say the outro to "Scarred" after James
says "I'm inspired and content..."
That gets me going (as well as the rest of that song, for that matter) every
time!

Wouldn't we all, though. :) Although, I'm sure many of us think they still
are.
But, as an example, look back at your own musical "evolution". What were
you listening to 10 or 15 years ago? Have your musical tastes changed in
that time? I know mine have. Hell, 15 years ago, I was one of those Top-40
listening people that we make fun of all the time. I listened to somebody
like Metallica back then, and all I heard was noise. Over time, though, my
tastes have evolved/grown/changed, or whatever you want to call it. If you
had asked me at any point during that time period if I thought I'd ever get
tired of my current fave, I'd have told you "No", just like you did about
I&W. I can't picture myself right now ever getting bored of/tired of DT's
music, but unless my past history contradicts itself, I probably will.
My point is that this happens, to some extent, with everyone. Your tastes
may only change a little, someone else may end up with a full 180 like
mine, but it always happens - or else we'd all still be listening to "Pop
Goes The Weasel" on our Fisher-Price toys - (my daughter's current
favorite, although she does headbang a little to FII. Gotta bring 'em up
right).
And because of this personal change, a person shouldn't be so quick to
blame a band when they put out an album of material the fan doesn't like,
because they changes are hapeening on *both* sides of the transaction.

They're new, they're fresh and they have only been played once !! Trust
me. Genesis Calling all Stations and ReRoad as they say in Japan. $8
each US postpaid or, let's do both for the special one-time package deal
price of $18, US postpaid. Call it the "right brain special". Yankees
get first dibs but international orders will be considered if these hot
babies dont sell domestically.
Random Rumblings:
1) Merry Axemas is OK, but a bit of a letdown. Not enough creativity
given the all-star lineup that was assembled.
2) Stratovarius' 1997 release "Visions" is awe-fuckin-some !! Angra
fans will get all sorts of excited over this disk. Buy it and ask
questions later.

Wow. I think that the reason why I love this band is that almost
every song gives me chills. I just started to play Orchid and the melodies
are fuckin' killers, but the interludes are, are, are... I can't describe.
It's a mix of subtle with a state of nirvana.
Specially "The Twilight is My Robe". It is a 11-minute orgasm.
Specially the acoustic part at 3:35.
BTW, I just noticed some similarities between Megadeth's "Sin" and
the seventh song from the second album by "that" band: go to sin and 2:11.
Then, start to sing: "Die, by my hand/I creep across the land/Killing
first born men".

Particularly when the reviewer's idea of "revolutionary" is something like
Oasis. I get the impression this guy wouldn't recognize a revolution if
somebody ran up to him with a tri-cornered hat and a musket. (Sorry for the
blatant U.S. reference here. I don't know what other countries wore to

Hello,
As far as tingly stuff, here's one part from each album:
WDADU:
*OAMOT: The keys over the end section are IMHO inspirational.
IaW:
*LtL: Though the Whoa does it for me, what reallly gets me is the
classical/flamenco acoustic solo. Nearly gets some tears every time...
LatM:
*AH/TKH: The Another Hand intro MAKES this song
Awake:
*SDV: This over the Mirror/Lie transition. When the additional
instruments kick in over the piano in the beginning. Or just the whole
damn song.
ACoS:
*ACoS: The segue from the acoustic guitar in the intro. When that
7-string kicks in, it's allllllll balls and chunk.
FII:
*PS: Same as everyone else, that line right before the solo.
I think that's quite enough for now, don't you?

Anyway, I just got the Spinning Years CD from Ryan Whitaker. I know
everyone said so, but I'll say it yet once again: Awesome CD! Great job
Ryan! Every DT fan should have one of those.
By the way, is it just me, or the chord progression in the guitar solo
to In The Dead Of Night is very similiar to the guitar & keys solo in
ToT... like, VERY similiar, like, almost the same? ;-)

Subject: Goosebump moments, other stuff
Message-ID: <199711231820.OAA11765@firma.thezone.net>
Hi!
My all time favorite DT moment would have to be the dialog in the middle of
Voices ("Do you know that reality is immaterial?"). That part sends shivers up
and down my spine every time I hear it. Also, the part in Erotomania after JP
plays arpeggios up and down the neck and then he just sits on one chord while
KM plays a beautiful piano line underneath. That part sounds so simple yet
beautiful to my ears.
As for non DT songs, APSOG is full of goosebump-y moments, but a couple that
stick out are Part IV, after the "Ooooooh" vocals, where the whole band just
kicks in on this nasty riff, the "Shoot me!" in Part VII, and "And I know we
can't turn back all the years" in Part VI. Savatage also has their fair share
of shiver-inducing moments: the vocal section at the end of Chance ("All the
time believng that it now came down to nothing but this chaaaaaaance!"), Alone
You Breathe (the whole thing), and Not What You See (especially the layered
vocals at the end). I can't wait for Wake Of The Magellan!
It's moments such as the ones listed above (and many more) that make me listen
to the kind of music that I listen to. When I turn on the radio or Muchmusic,
I rarely, if ever, hear anything that makes me go "Hey, that sounds pretty cool.
I've never heard anything like that before." Consequently, I rarely ever pick
up a CD because I heard a song on the radio that I liked. Out of all the CDs
I've bought in the past year, I may have heard only 2 or 3 of those songs on the
radio or on TV. Mostly I just stick to my favorite bands (such as DT, Van Halen,
and Faith No More) or recommendations from the Ytsejam (like Fates Warning and
Savatage). Like many of the people on this list, I find myself getting
frustrated at the current state of the music industry, and it's great when a
band comes out with a song like JLMB that perfectly voices those frustrations.
So to the bands I've mentioned above, and all the other bands who stay true to
what they believe in, I say "Keep up the great work!". Someday the time will
come when this kind of music finally gets recognized for the truly great music
that it is. And I'm sure that for many of us, that day can't come a moment too
soon!
If you've made it this far, thanks for listening! Talk to ya later!

My first concert experience came in 1987 at the INXS Kick "Calling All

helped kick off (no pun intended) a journey for myself had to take his own
life and end his own. He'll be missed by many people, children of the 80's
