Yup, still here, been here since the late 500's (April '95) and never
missed a post in between. (Jeez, what is that, like 50,000 posts?) I
started calling myself "YtseFart the Elder" after Scott Cook called me an
"old fart" once. If you wanna know how old I am, you'll have to look on
    Mark Bredius' YtseBirthday page.

I'll give you a clue, though - Melody Portnoy was born on my 43rd birthday!

Neil Gallop mentioned something I'd also heard on FII - the middle, slow
part of LiTS does sound a lot like Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like I
Do?", and at 6:11 JP does a clean little jazzy lick that sounds EXACTLY
like a Frampton riff! I was half expecting the talk-box to reappear . . .
    " Do you feeeeeel . . . Loik . . . Oi . . . Doo" - but then JP comes up
with a beautiful melodic solo instead.

Back to the age thing - I never understood why getting older should change
one's musical tastes, but I admit that it seems to do so to most people. I
remember making a vow to myself when I was about 10, though, that I would
never forget what it's like to be a kid. That might be why I can (usually)
    hang with you youngsters ;^)

One more thing - I'm very proud to report that all three of my sons (ages
11, 15, and 16) are budding musicians and huge DT fans, too. They don't
live with me, either. That's why it blew me away when the youngest, when
he was 9, was visiting me, riding in the car listening to "Surrounded", and
he sang along with the "Light to dark, dark to light, light to dark, dark
to light, " line - PERFECTLY, in both pitch and rhythm. A true DT moment
    . . .

Well, that's MORE than enough about me . . .

YtseFart the Elder (promises to make no more grammatical or spelling
    corrections on the 'jam . . .)

    Dear Jammers,
I have been a little quite lately, due to the fact that on Monday
September 29, at around 1:30 P.M., I was involved in a near fatal car
accident near Sydney, Ohio. I was in a head on collision at 65mph, and
luckily both myself and the other party are not fatally injured, although
both of our cars are totalled. The reason I'm writing this is because at
the time I was listening to FII, "Trial of Tears" to be exact, and the last
line I remember before the accident was the "Raining, Raining deep in
Heaven", part, and that's when the crash occurred. I will keep this short,
due to the fact that I am in pretty bad emotional shape, not to mention
sore physically, but there is no question in my mind that I should've died
in that accident, and it has been very hard for me to acept the fact that
two days later I am sitting at home with three stitches in my head, a
lacerated right hand, and a hairline fracture in my collar bone writing
this. I never lost consciousness, and I did think for the first few
moments that i was indeed dead or close to death, and that I had also taken
someone else with me. . .
I may be without my new DT cd, which is still in the remains of my new '97
Saturn (the car that no doubt saved my life), but I have my life, which as
a fresh 23 year old I nearly took for granted! I am not a reckless driver
(this was my first offense, and pretty much everything I did was legal),
and I was on my way back from leading a retreat for high school juniors
when the accident occured, but I truly believe someone up there is watching
over me, not to mention all of you as well. I don't think I have ever been
so glad as to read a Ytsejam as I have today, because for quite a few
minutes I didn't think I'd ever get to see or hear anything ever again.
    God Bless,
                                            -Gene Szucs

Just to further edify (now *there's* a detention word!) the situation, the
CIA9ITG riff became a riff in New Millenium (and I can't tell you at what time
this riff occurs right now, because I'm listening to I&W, but it is the riff
over which the first lines are sung).

I have an incredible 2 CD DT bootleg called Lost In The Sky. It was recorded off the sound board in Milan during the When Dream and Tour Unite tour(Images and words tour). It is incredible. It has an outstanding performance of To Live Forever, as well as Eve. They perform the entire I and W album (with a sneak preview of Mirror at the beginning of Take The Time) and there is a great performance of Ytse Jam, featuring a monster solo by Portnoy "Let's get ready to rumbleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!" It is produced by Metal Crash and distributed by Why Not? I got lucky and picked it up in a store on Long Island- Loony Tunes in West Babylon,NY for all you LI ers in here! I bought it two or three years ago on sale for 25 bucks. I was there recently and they still carry it. It is probably more expensive now. Hope everyone checks this one out. Post some questions about it is you have any! Stephen La Monica

Dan Senko wrote ----- I told Ryan Whittaker I would be a customer reference once I received my lucky disc #27 of Seven Wonders. Not having any of Mike Bahr's originals or CDRs, this was a great way to catch up. It made painting my hallways (God, I hate painting but wallpaper even more!) much more enjoyable. And throwing in Mind Control was a great bonus. This was the boot I wanted the most to get the Awake tour! Ryan, any follow-on plans? Your web page is whetting our appetite. -----

Thanks. =) Yeah, I have some pretty huge follow-up plans. I might as well spill my guts right now. The next bootleg will be called "Spinning Years". It will contain, now get this: The Dance of Eternity (2CD) Lost in the Sky (2CD) Mind Control (2CD) A Kick into a Dream (2CD) Uncovered (2CD) Caught in Amsterdam '97!!!! (2CD)

"Caught in Amsterdam '97" has essentially the same setlist as the "Fix for '96" boot, but is has much better sound quality! Anyway, that's 12 discs worth of material, all for $22 again. Just so you all know my reasoning behind the picks for this next CD, it contains the two best I&W boots, the two best Awake boots, the special Uncovered performance and the best pre-FII material bootleg available. Hence, "Spinning Years". =) For those people who don't like the idea of an MP3 disc and want to get their hands on 'Caught in Amsterdam '97', I'll be duplicating it for, I don't know, $30-$35 or around there. It'll be duplicated in Disc-at-Once format, meaning there will be no gaps between tracks, which is common on bootleg replications (for a seamless concert experience).

Please don't e-mail me just yet about "Spinning Years" or CIA97. I haven't set up a reservation database for it yet. Hold your horses, Tanto. =) I have around 45 reservation spots left open for "Seven Wonders", so that's still up and running. Shipping is continuing on an immediate basis, so if you send me a check on Monday, you'll most likely have the disc in your hands the next Monday (that is, if you're in the USA.. expect 2 weeks for overseas most likely). I'll post a note to the Jam when ordering for "Spinning Years" opens, which will probably be in 2 or 3 weeks. Most of the material is converted and ready to go, but the CD liner (which will be cool!) isn't done yet.

My roommate is playing the latter of the two above reviewed albums (which is why I have to be sneaky and repeatedly minimize this message). Let me tell you this. It deserves *far* less than 84. Apologies to any Dylan fans, but I find this music to be insulting mindless pap. As far as lyrical depth goes, allow me to subjectively say they are terrible, far worse than DT on a bad day. I guess it takes a reviewer or my roommate to appreciate songs that are made up of one chord. (No kidding).

Aw, good lord, now he's playing along!! I'll bet he's going to start singing any minute...you don't understand, this kid has the absolute worst voice in the history of voices (worse than Dylan even), and he thinks it's good, the worst part. Hey James....I was there too!! Where were you sitting!?! I was in the 7th row, and once again was amazed at Steve Vai live.... I saw G3 last time around at Concord. I got Steves autograph that time when he was at the sound board watching Joes set. He was a very down to earth guy and gladly signed my "Flexible" cd insert and said something and smiled, problem was it was so damn loud and I was so stunned that I have no idea what he said! I just hugged him around the waist and said "I love your music, thanks for doing it, I love you man" or something like that and he hugged me back! hahaha great moment for me, I will never forget it. One thing I've noticed is that while I was always a Satch fan, Steve is amazing me more and more these days..... he jammed in Sacto, jaws were dropping all through his set! And by the way, if anyone knows the two girls (i think they were sisters, maybe they are on the jam???!) next to me and my friend (one of them got steves pick) Tell them I'm in love!! See you in Concord

I totally agree with you there. I can't stand picks, and I think the only time I ever used one was when I wanted to do that Joe Jackson song Anthrax covered (because their bassist was using a stainless steel pick on the tape). Other than that, I don't think I've ever used a pick on a bass guitar.

Close, yeah. Could be either one, to be honest, but I have a feeling that he might have used one just to be a little different on this album. Hey, if he did; more power to him, and if not, then I want to know the EQ settings on his rig so I can copy them. Anyone know those?

BTW, what do you think of the Edens? I have a 1x15 and a 2x10 (dbl. ported) and I won't use anything else. :)

I think a little info footnote at the end of each digest would be a great idea, and as far as working in ack mode....is that really that much of a concern? After all, chances are that if you took the trouble to figure out how to get into ack mode in the first place, you'd also know how to unsubscribe, and if not, then at least how to get back into digest mode and get the info that way.

I listened to FII on headphones all the way through last night, keeping in mind what I have been reading here. Let me tell you what I think. NM sounds wonderful to me, I love the song, in all its glory. The thing that struck me was how nonmetal DT sounds here. They almost sound mainstream in production, but the song itself kicks more ass than I know any mainstreamish song to kick. YNM Is this DT? This song is really straightforward and sounds like it could get airplay. I like it, there really isn't a song I don't like, but this is definitely not the DT I know. PS Well, well, well. I love this one, too. Nuff said. HY Is this the doctored song? sounds like it. I like it, but can't help but think that Desmond child should stay out of a prog rock band's music. This song stinks of being doctored by some recording company hitmaker and for DT it just bothers me, although i love the song and melodies and everything, it just doesn't fit DT. The we hit BMS, HK, and LITS and I don't need to say shit, these are DT. TAMP is great as well, and very emotional. Don't play this song after the death of a loved one of if your relationship ends with a GF/BF. It will make you cry. JLMB Again, nuff said. DT again is back. AL What's this? I like it a lot, but again, it just doesn't seem like DT. a winter rose leftover? I don't know. TOT is awesome and that's all. So, YNM, HY, and AL seem like they're completely different and almost seem like recording company songs to try to generate record sales. I like these songs, but they don't fit on the album as compared with the rest. By the way, what happened to raise the Knife? Wasn't it supposed to be on the album? Maybe the FII leftovers will be on met PT2 or on singles from FII. Who knows?
