I have 2 tickets for the Savatage show at the Birch Hill (10/17). If you
want them, I'm just asking for the face value ($20 for both). Just email and
I will mail out to you.
    Thanks.

I'm not much of a musician (I can play a pretty mean air guitar),
but I am curious of something that maybe you musicians can answer: What is
the most whacked out, insane time signature that you have ever heard of
out of a prog rock/prog metal band, and what song (or part of the song) and
album? On that same hand, what is the most insane time sig on a DT song?
Either emailed to me or sent to the list is fine, unless someone
    complains loudly :).

-jeremy (who's hoping he can maybe figure out how to figure
out time signatures in songs someday)

Hey, ytseguys and gals! Sorry I've been so quiet lately, but it's not
easy keeping up with 10 jams a day on top of working and going to school
and being a newlywed. I've been ROTFLMAO with all the grammar
discussions! I was reading them while at work (some of you may know that
I work part time in the University's Writing Center), and the other
tutors thought I was just plain weird for laughing at the computer. :D

As far as my "Help DT Get Airplay Web Page" goes, it hasn't gotten a
major overhaul in about two weeks, but I do have a couple of new things
to add. For those of you who just joined the list (or resubbed), I
compiled a list of a whole bunch of radio stations and e-mail addresses
so we can *ahem* suggest they play BMS. So far I've heard some great
things about your efforts in mailing them. Don't forget about it!

    http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/5039/radio.html

On a side note, anyone wanna e-mail bomb KLOL in Houston? They aren't
    playing it at all! :P

About FII's "chatterings" at the beginnings and endings of songs: Some
ppl have referred to the sounds as slamming doors, typewriters, someone
saying "Falling Into Infinity" before BMS, and the like. From what I can
tell (and I'm not an experienced production person, so I may be wrong),
it sounds like someone did a shitty job putting the songs together. I
actually heard the guy saying FII, and it sounded like they were
announcing the album title before each song (doing something similar to
what they do in movies by saying "Back to the Future, Scene 55, Take 88"
or whatever). To me, it just sounds sloppy. I really think there's no
    excuse for the mistakes.

I'm not going to put my personal opinion of the whole album. (Except
that I LOVE IT!!! Whoops. That's a personal opinion. Sorry.) But I'll
post a real review of it later this month on my Web site if I ever find
    the time.

OK, back to reading the 'jams. 50 down, 10 to go...
***Disclaimer*** This post is not spell-checked. Deal with it. :)

P.S. Wanna have some fun? During the "twisting....turning" part of BMS,
try singing "this world is spinning around me" from PMU. No wonder BMS was
    chosen as the single.

I'm not a musician, nor I know how to count the time signatures,
but I looked at the "A Change of Seasons" tab and found 17/16, if I'm not
mistaken. This is the time sig with the higher "denumerator" that I have
ever seen. And 17 is a prime number. :-)

Just wanted to know how a music in 45/32 sounds like... :-)

    > -jeremy (who's hoping he can maybe figure out how to figure
    > out time signatures in songs someday)

One way you can do it is try to count with the drums and try to
find some pattern. The strongest beat seems to be the first in a measure
(I don't know if this is the right word).

BTW, I have a related question here: I was hearing "...And Justice
for All" (the album) and I was told that all Metallica has composed was in
4/4. But I have serious doubts, when I'm listening to "Blackened" or even
AJFA. Can some higher intelligence shed some light here to the lesser
informed 'jammers?? Is "Fight Fire with Fire" a 1/1 composition (the beats
don't seem to be different from each other)...

I was actually converted by tabulature, if you can believe that... in college I picked up some guitar magazine with transcription to Caught In A Web (I forget the real reason I got the magazine, cuz I had never heard of DT before then), and the tab just killed me... I was like, no. So I had to buy Awake, and the rest they say, is history. They fit my listening rack just right, ya know?

No kidding, I've noticed that. It seems the most disliked song are "Burning My Soul" and "You Not Me," my two faves! And yeah, they do have hit potential. I think this would be good for Dream Theater.
