    Hi everybody,

Just curious if anybody else has noticed this. I'm brosing several
christian music wed-stores today and noticed that in the review of a lot
of the CD's that DT is used as a comparision. Not like, "These guys
sound like DT," but more like "If you're a DT fan, you'll like this
band's progressive metal sound." That's pretty cool IMO. Apparently the
christian music industry may be more familiar with DT than the music
industry as a whole. I don't ever recall seeing a band compared to DT in
a band review (apart from the jam & some Magna Carta releases, of
course). Has anybody else noticed this? For the curious, the bands
compared to DT that I can remember were: Metropolis (duh!), Ultimatium,
Atomic Opera, The new King James album, Sardonyx, Majesty, Liquid
Eclipse, Sea of Dreams and Veni Domine.

While I'm familiar with a few of these bands already, I'd be interested
to hear the opinions of those of you out there who know any of them.
    C-ya,
                            Matt

Well, I can't take anymore of the YtseJam, sorry. =]
I'm way too busy, and I can't take getting 90 jams in my box at once. I'll
try back again after December when I have some time. Please e-mail me any
Dream Theater tour dates, specifically in the Pennsylvania/Jersey area.
    Thanks!

WDADU is without a doubt the Moore album. Notice the keys on... on...
the entire CD!!! OAMOT, The Killing Hand, Light Fuse and Get Away, all
    of 'em I guess...

    > Images and Words...that is without a doubt the Moore album. His solos and melodies sold me on DT and I have been

I&W is probably the Petrucci + Moore album (TTT, PMU, Met. Pt. 1, LtL,
    UAGM, all of 'em again...)

6:00, this has to be a tie....Petrucci and Portnoy. The

That's Awake, but I'll forgive you since you admitted your mistake...
Here I agree with you, but I have to add that LaBrie has his part also.

    ACOS is LaBrie indeed.

Now this album is IMO the "everybody" album. They fit so well together
    here....

My friends and I always went nuts because of this. One of 'em said the
snare sounds like an electric one (off a synth or something). Boy was he
    right...

    Hi there jammers!

I was thinking of writeing an "All time DT favourites" list. I thought that couldn't be that diffecult. Boy was I wrong. I thought of top song of each album, but instead of finding one song that I like the best, I found just one song that I don't like very much..... An all-time DT favourites list will probably consist of all of their songs.....

And that's exactly what I like in this band. Every song by them kicks asses. Even if they went techno they would kick asses.

And if any member of the band is reading this, please read my post about bringing DT to Israel.

I do not have "Playing The Fool" but I have other albums bu Gentle Giant. "Free Hand" is the good one to start with, "Octopus" is good too. But I heard "In the glass house" IS excellent. I don't have it. "Acquiring The Taste" and "The Power And The Glory" are a bit to get into.

Most people do not like Gentle Giant at first listen. I think their music is a bit hard to get into. Please be patient and you will like them a lot. Their music is excellent; it's the vocals that can be irritating because they have layers for the vocals.

<< My pals and I are thinking of making a best of DT on 2 cds setlist for now would be: A fortune in lies, ytse jam, only a matter of time under a glass moon, take the time, metropolis 1, learning to live 6:00, caught in a web, lifting shadows, scarred, erotomania a change seasons(snippets) new millennium, hells kitchen, trial of tears, lines in the sand.. >>

I can't resist posting my own ideas. I believe a true "best of" should reflect the well known tunes and a few classic cuts. Here's mine:

Disc1: The Ytse Jam; Status Seeker (Broon remix); Afterlife (Broon remix); The Killing Hand; Pull Me Under; Take The Time; Metropolis-Part I; Surrounded (Live at the Marquee version); To Live Forever (b-side version); Eve (b-side version).

Disc 2: 6:00; Caught In A Web; Lie (single version); The Silent Man; A Change Of Seasons; Tears (from Xmas club CD); You Not Me; Hollow Years; Burning My Soul; Lines In The Sand.

Just my thoughts. I'd love to squeeze in Learning To Live. Another Day was omitted and it was a video, but...such is life. :)

Athens, actually, Paul (not that it makes a damn bit of difference; I still can't get through to the request line :) ).

I'll try the FAX line. I've been using the FAX line at work for lots of non-work related stuff lately (the most recent being an order from Dream Disc), so why the hell not throw in one more?

Paul also pondered: >Hmm, tour dates are being announced. Wes, BigSwifty, who's up for a >roadtrip? :)

Yo. *raises hand* I missed it when you guys went up to Birch Hell for the Fix for '96. Take me along this time, dammit! :)

    Weekends are a good thing.

Hi all. A rather inflammatory post appeared on TNMS that made unfounded accusations that I cannot let sit unanswered. I am looking into libel action against Mr. Colletti for damaging my business by posting these things, but hopefully that will not be necessary because most, indeed nearly all, people who have done business with me, know what he claims is untrue. I am CC'ing this to the Dream Theater Ytsejam mailing list because although the original slam post got through to TNMS, I don't know if my reply will, because I was told not to post about my boot projects on TNMS. In this case, I'm hoping to at least get an equal rebuttal. I think I have been more than fair by posting ZERO ads to TNMS since I was asked to do so many months ago.

Here's the post.. > modingus@znet.com (Charles Colletti) writes: > Let me first just say I am a very large bootleg collector (all formats) and > have taped dozens of shows. I do not condone bootlegs at all. Just people > that press the shows on disc and RIP-OFF fellow fans. And whats worse is > when you get people (like John Dea) that come in and defend the con-artists

Since I don't see you dubbing tapes at cost for other fans, I don't see as how you have room to criticize here, but I will go on... As for the con-artist thing, better be careful what you say and how you say it. I do take very seriously allegations of that sort.

    > John Dea wrote: > >Virtual Songs: This one fills three discs, so it's just a tad expensive. > > However, it's probably the only boot in the world to have the entire T4E > >an excellent recording. What a frigin rip-off. How about this formula; > Find about 8 people that want the show. Each pitch in $75 and purchase your > own CD-R recorder, and make your own. Bam.... Their ya go. If you do it > this way I am sure through traders you can get a superior quality recording

I offered $200 for the best source DAT of the TFE tour, on alt.music.rush, $500 for a soundboard, and got no takers, so I went ahead with my audience DAT (which was perfectly average as DATs go). If you've got such awesome shows in your collection, where were you then? Why did you keep them away from the Rush-loving public? Selfishness?

And you seem to forget that not everyone has the time, knowledge, or resources to get in on a CD-R project themselves. And many traders would rather work in CD-R than tape anyway. I provide a solution for those people.

    > BTW, I do have a CD boot with the entire T4E set list. My friend taped it, > I did post-audio work on it, then my friend dumped it to CD-R (Thanks again > for the disc Jim. Jordan I want my copy back!). Its incredible quality. > Puts Virtual Songs to shame and it only set me back the cost of media > (about $8.00 per 74 min disc).

_Now_ you're full of shit. Media is $3 per disc. Media, however, is but a small part of the cost of an entire project. I have put extensive notes on this on my web page for public consumption: two other people (Ryan Whitaker and Marcel Berkhout) have already followed my lead and created projects of their own. The URL is in my signature.

Also, I notice you aren't offering your disc to the entire TNMS fan public. Unless you plan to do so, you have no place criticising those who have.

90% of all Rush shows aren't worth making CDs out of because of sound quality. I encourage people to trade for any and all of those that they can. The remainder are really nice to have on more permanent media with higher sound fidelity.

    > >Experience to Extremes: This one gets a perfect 10 for sound quality. > > Master Bahr??? ha ha ha ha ha! Come on dude. Get with it.... The only > reason I wont tear this up is because I know who was responsible for this > project, and where the master tape came from (Scott, hands down, its an

All Scott did was sell me the master tape. He gets mucho credit for that, but really, it's not as if I sat back and collected a royalty. You may not know this but I put many hours into preparing these CDs, and to be complimented as John Dea did, means a great deal to me.

    > >Mike's Honesty: I also want to vouch for his integrity with these > > Mike's honesty... Well other than lying horribly about production costs

My production costs are open for public view at my web site, as I mentioned. Careful who you accuse of lying when you're uninformed.

    > Mike is honest. Yes if a disc is lost in the mail he will send you another. > But when you ship stuff 4'th class (gotta make every last cent in profit), > what can you expect??? You are paying $75 for something that only costed > probably $30 to make and he cant even splurge for 1'st class

    1. I ship 1st class. 2. Yes, I have to milk every cent. That's called business, doofus. If I lost money on every sale, I would have to quit doing it, and I would lose the equivalent of a part time job. And my other part-time job in the "real world" ain't enough by itself.

    > addressed. Mike Bahr. Yes he press's disc's, and yes, lots of fans buy his > stuff. I have no problem with people posting info on his disc's and where > But when somebody comes in and talks as if they are best buds with this > guy, defending him, when you don't know the real story.. Well thats > something I'm not going to let slide by.

I don't even know Mr. Dea, except to say that I am happy that he has been pleased with my work. He was just stating his opinions and really, I don't see how you can rip him and me for that. This entire post was sort of a blindside hit... how would you like it if I just walked up to you on the street, hit you upside the head with a bat, and walked away? That's basically what you did here.

I won't make assumptions about you the way you did about me, but my impression of you is that of an "elitist" collector who already has most of the shows on tape, can't be bothered to copy anything for the new collectors who are enjoying every tape they receive, can't be happy with any boot unless you manage to get it for free, and can't stand the idea of someone doing something, like say, a CD-R project open to all Rush Fans, that you wish you had thought of first. But none of these are facts or accusations. Just my impressions.

As a bass player I whole-heartedly agree that Myung really shines on FII. I love hearing him so prominently in the mix (for all its faults). However, if you want to hear an album with really driving bass guitar I suggest you give DOGMAN by King's X a spin. Now THAT'S bass!!!!!!
