I'm glad you decided to rejoin the list Andrew Forcier. We had a deal back
over the summer. I sent you a tape and a money order, and you told me your
place got ripped off so I would have to wait until the 2nd week in August,
and here it is October 4. Could you please explain to me why you decided to
rip me off, and leave the jam at the same time? I know it was only $10 and a
$3 blank tape, but it's the principle dude.

One's gotta wonder about a couple of things after reading this post.

    1) Is the guy that *created* the jam's bad trader list going to rip people off?
    2) Is it possible that Andrew didn't have e-mail access until the last week or
    so?
    3) Is it possible that you could have e-mailed Andrew personally, let him
explain the situation, rather than tarnish his reputation out here in the open?

The principle, dude, is that this list is not just a bunch of people posting
shit. We are a family, engaged in discussion, and partaking in a relationship
based on trust. If you feel that Andrew violated your trust, you should have
first discussed it with him, rather than crying foul in front of the whole
    family.

I hope people will *not* follow Chris' example, and will instead use personal
    e-mail where appropriate.

Well, I must say that I've traded once with Andrew and he was one
of the kindest people with whom I have traded: he sent the tapes before I
even started to make his (I sent him two tapes with the "Uncovered Show"
and Viper's "Theatre of Fate"). It was before KTS (do you remember that?)
    closed.

He was the only people with whom I have traded that used those
high quality Maxell XL IIs, instead of Maxell XL II tapes.

I've been listening to that station for only a little while, but they have managed to baffle me. They play the new Kiss song all the time, yet they don't play BMS. Keep in mind that the former was regarded by some of their DJ's as a "complete bag of suck". Hmmm....

I apologize for crossposting that big thingy to the Jam, in this case it was because I feared that the TNMS managers would disallow it (in spite of the fact that they allowed the original), and the last thing I needed was to have 300 customers with orders in e-mailing me cancellation attempts because they think I don't care about my projects enough to reply to something like that. I sincerely am sorry if I offended anyone.

The eagle has landed... at today's Tempest pre-release, the greater part of my collection of cards magically became cash. :) It's time to put the orders into overdrive. :) I'm one happy guy.

    Hi there. 8-)

Well personally, I would recommend Clutching at Straws. The lyrics deal strongly with substance abuse, something the ex-singer, =46ish, was relatively familiar with. Fish' diction leaves the listener spellbound. The other record from the Fish era that makes a great listen is Misplaced Childhood. It is a concept record and that track occupies the entire length of the CD.

Fish was replaced by Steve Hogarth, whose voice is more melodic and less sarcastic than Fish'.

I would recommend Season's End as a starting point for that material followed by Brave, another concept record. Be warned though, Brave is a dark and disturbing listen and not for everyone lyrically.

If you want a good live sampling of the Fish era, get The Thieving Magpie CD set. It is fantastic and contains many tracks that they still play today. The video from Lorelei, Germany is also excellent.

For Hogarth era live stuff, check out Made Again. A great sampling of intense vocal work at its best and a must have for a Marillion fan.

The production and playing are excellent on all of these..

If you really want the low down on Marillion, subscribe to =46reaks, the Marillion mailing list. Mark Bredius (Itchy) is the demented maniac who runs it and he will show you the ropes.

How about it Mark!!?? Enlighten this chap!!

I hope this was helpful. 8-)

    Agreed.

Who cares if it has radio appeal and was co written by Des Child. It's melodic, has a good hook and is very catchy. They need a radio single if they are going to be retained by Elektra. That is NOT a company that will tolerate low sales when alternative is selling like hotcakes.

I like the way James sings the opening lines of the song. It was a much different sound than I anticipated hearing but it was nice to hear that sort of variety introduced.

    Cheers,

i guess i would place myself in this catagory that does not like YNM. specificly because of what Jon pointed out: the chorus. i just find it lacking; too cheezy; wimpy; not there. in other words, it just doesnt *do* anything for me. i compare YNM to Innocence Faded, which i feel displays the same problem in the chorus. the verses absolutely kick in IF -some really great Myung lines in there; they're so-so in YNM. and if it wasnt for the verses and awesome jam at the end of IF, i wouldnt listen to it. i almost skip YNM, except that i *want* to give it a chance. whoever said that YNM doesnt sound like it "belongs" on FII, i'd almost agree.

what?? I just saw the single at best buy last weekend (in Raleigh) for $8.99... There's still plenty of singles out for sale... I could see buying from you if it were less, but more? I'd rather support dream theater more, AND get the cheaper price!!!

    >>Dream Theater have already released five CDs of their best songs - why >>do we need any more? > >Could this statement have possibly been calculated to kiss any more ass?

dude... I totally agree with what he said... there, IMO is no way you can do a *BEST OF* album with DT... there's just too many great things... plus, you figure when they write 2+ hours of material for an album, and only get to use just over 1 hour of it, it *IS* in a sense, a "best of" album... kissing ass? what's your problem?

    >There was a massive stack of FII right next to the cashier, and FII was #22 >out of their top 25!!!!!! If that isnt an indication that people are >starting to really dig DT, I dont know what is. > >We didnt beat Boyz II Men or the Foo Fighters, but its a start ; )

dude, that's awesome!!!! I don't mind so much being behind Boyz II Men as I would someone like Bush or some group with NO musical talent... ( I don't like Boyz II Men, but I appreciate their musical talents)....

It all began Thursday... phone rings and our another guitarist is there "DT will be LIVE tomorrow in JYRKI!!"(Finnish sucky music TV-program)

I say: "Really? I'll call Mape and ask if he knows more"

Mape doesn't know a thing.. he promises to find out

Mape calls and says there will be Portnoy and Petrucci

A heavy load of telephone using occurs :)

Friday: I go to school, spend 8 minutes on English exam, wait for our another guitarist to pick me up, an to Helsinki (capital of Finland where the sucky program is made) we leave...

We meet our other guitarist (brother of another:) at front of TV-studio, and decide to go buy some CDs, we go to place XXXX (promised not to reveal their name :) and ask if DT guys are coming there to sign CDs and stuff, the guy at counter says "No.. they were supposed to come, but they aren't, some management shit... but they are staying at Hotel XXXXX (a promise is a promise), but ya didn't get the info from us...)

To the hotel we walk, I march to the counter and ask the lady behind it the room number of Misters Petrucci and Portnoy, the lady finds "Portnoy... Mike... room 418" I say "Thank you"

To the room we go... nobody answers our multiple doorbell ringings!"

o we leave We decode to check the restaurant downstairs, there's no DT guys ther either, the lady there tell us to check the Pub too, we go there and IT IS MIKE PORTN.. no.. it is some guy from kurdistania.. who has the exact voice of Mike P. and who is sitting next to Derek... and they are answering some questions by some long haired guy I rush to get the another guitarist from lobby (the other was with me) we decide to be polite and wait until the interview ends. We see them giving away some CD-singles and try to guess which single it is.

I have my Awake flag with me, and I decide to show it to the guys :) Keepin it up for few seconds and Derek sees it.. He elbows Mike and tells him to "look at them" They both give us "thumbs up" and shout "yeah!"

I say something like "Dt is the best band in universe EVER blah blah :)" and ask if they could sign some stuff for us... "yeah sure!"

We take our DT stuff (lots of it) and they guys sign it :) While chattin I got some news, I hope these are really new and haven't been posted earlier:

-They said they will return to USA, Finland was the last place on their promo tour, and first thing ther they will shoot a video to Hollow Years (MP said himself that it sounds like Sting, and Anna Lee too)

-Where Are You Now will possibly be released as B-side (woohoo!)

-They will be touring Australia this time, but I dunno when.

    -Finland in March :)

I give Derek pic I have made and he goes "WOW.. Mike's gonna love this! You just gotta give this to him!" (I am not telling you what kinda pic.. am I mean or what :)

Derek gives Mike the pic, Mike loves it :) I express my desire of trading the pic to the single they were giving away, and I get the last copy of Mike's Hollow Years single... the cover will be on my page next week.

Mike says he'd want to have a bigger version of the pic to frame it and hang on the wall. Mike gives me his street address. (No, I won't post it to jam :)

We BS some and they sign a lots of our stuff, then they hafta leave to get ready for the TV- show, we shake hands and say goodbye.

Back to the TV-studio where we find multiple DT fans waiting to see their idols... We brag with our meeting with they guys :)

Some more guys approach us and one of them shouts "KOOMMMOOONNEEENN" "Hi Mape..." More ytsejam fellas arrive (hi tenze, satu, hotti, marvin, karri etc.)

Mike and Derek arrive, they sign few autographs and go inside the studio where we aren't ' allowed to go :( 'Cuz we are in Helsinki by train we hafta leave, we wave to jammers and go to have some food before the train leaves. As we eat and our other guitarist tries to assure us (himself included) that I am not so lucky for having HY single, "'cuz soon you can buy it anywhere for $8" I take a closer look to the single and the magic words "Promotion copy. Not for sale" struck my eyes :)

OK that was the story of how I met Mike and Derek.. ther will be some pics and sounds on my page soon..
